[Touch-packages] [Bug 1878194] Re: [Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa

2020-09-10 Thread x@m72
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1871794 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871794

I tried @Pelayo Méndez's solution on my MSI Prestige 14 A10SC:

1) replaced the ibt- * drivers of version 20.04, contained in
/lib/firmware/intel, with those of version 18.04
2) cleared ~ /.config/pulse

without success.

I tried to replaced /etc/pulse/default.pa too, and reboot, but without success

Title:
[Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting
HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After updating the release from Ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04, the bluetooth
headset doesn't work anymore when HSP/HFP profile is selected.

With Ubuntu 19.10 the headset was working, there was audio and the mic
  was perfect for video conferencing.

  [Steps to reproduce]
  1. Connect headset (used blueman to setup and connect)
1.1. When connected the system automatically selects A2DP profile
  2. Start playing audio (browser or other)
  3. Change profile to HSP/HFP with pavucontrol (or blueman)
  4. The audio disappears and microphone is not working (no input)
  5. Optionally switch back to A2DP and the audio comes back

  [Expected]
When switching to HSP/HFP the audio should keep playing and the microphone
should start working

  [Notes]
I tried with pavucontrol to switch between profiles while playing audio from
a browser.
As side note there's a led in the headset that still blinks when switching
profile.

I tried deleting the pulse folder under user's profile .config without
success, also reinstalled packages and did a `sudo alsa force-reload`
  and rebooting several times.

Note: not sure this is a duplicate of [Bug #1576559], it looks quite
different since the profile changes but the headset stops working.

  [System info]
  Ubuntu: 20.04 - Linux 5.4.0-29-generic x86_64
  pulseaudio: 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3
  bluez: 5.53-0ubuntu3

  Headset: Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1895218] Re: Xorg crash

2020-09-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1895164] Re: Display scaling 150% causes Firefox and Chrome to return window.devicePixelRatio = 2

It's possible the problem is actually GTK (which sits between Mutter and
the apps) only supporting integer scales.

  3. open up Firefox/Chrome/Chromium. Open up Console and type
`window.devicePixelRatio`

  ## What happened

  I received 2

  ## What should have happened

  I should have gotten 1.5

  ---

I reported this bug here instead of in Firefox/Chrome because they
both report the same value only on Linux. They correctly report 1.5 on
Windows, which I believe may be an issue with GNOME.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1888598] Re: pulseaudio has is buggy with hdmi audio and sleep/wake

2020-09-10 Thread Hui Wang
What I saw is the hdmi-port0 (monitor) is resumed earlier than hdmi-
port1 (home theatre) and hidmi-port0 has higher priority than hdmi-
port1, so the profile of hdmi-port1 will not be active and the sink of
hdmi-port1 will not be created after resume. (not 100% sure)

If you could not switch the port, we have another way to do the test.
Drop the (load-module module-switch-on-connect blacklist=""), then edit
the /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/ hdmi-output-0.conf and hdmi-
output-1.conf, change the priority in 0.conf to 58 and change the
priority in 1.conf to 59, then reboot.

When you have time, could do a test and collect the log between suspend
and resume.

pulseaudio has is buggy with hdmi audio and sleep/wake

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
on a fresh Ubuntu 20.04 x64 install, I've noticed some troubling bugs
with pulseaudio after putting my system to sleep and then waking it
up. these bugs aren't present on a fresh boot, only after resuming
  from sleep:

  - it forgets which sound output device it's set to, and always reverse to the
motherboard's S/PDIF output.
  - I have two devices connected to my video card, one is a displayport
monitor, and one is a home theater receiver via HDMI. it confuses the two, and
randomly switches which device it thinks is capable of surround sound.
  - it sometimes refuses to switch to the correct audio device, and just resets
any choice back to the internal S/PDIF, until the system is rebooted.

as you can imagine, this a pretty frustrating state of affairs.

I did a smartcard setup and confirmed I did not have to use anything
from pcsc-tools. And pcsc-tools seem to depend on libpcsc-perl, so won't
need pcsc-perl either.

My "sudo apt install opensc" pulled in libccid, libpcslite1, opensc-
pkcs11 and pcscd binary packages. I only needed one additional install
of "libpam-pkcs11".

Next, I am looking into the pcscd requirement. Will comment shortly.

  ==> ccid <==
  [Availability]
ccid is in universe, and builds on all architectures.

  [Rationale]
The desktop team and security team are interested in bringing smartcard
  authentication to enterprise desktop environments.

  [Security]
No CVEs for ccid are listed in our database.
Doesn't appear to bind to a socket.
No privileged executables, but does have udev rules.
  Probably needs a security review.

  [Quality assurance]
  No test suite.
Does require odd hardware that we'll probably need to buy.
  I don't see debconf questions.
ccid is well maintained in Debian by upstream author.
One open wishlist bug in BTS, harmless.

One open bug in launchpad, not security, but looks very frustrating
for the users. The upstream author was engaged but it never reached
  resolution. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ccid/+bug/1175465

  Has a debian/watch file.
  Quilt packaging.

  P: ccid source: no-dep5-copyright
  P: ccid source: package-uses-experimental-debhelper-compat-version 13

  [Dependencies]
  Minimal dependencies, in main

  [Standards compliance]
Appears to satisfy FHS and Debian policy

  [Maintenance]
The desktop team will subscribe to bugs, however it is expected that the
security team will assist with security-relevant questions.

  [Background information]
ccid provides drivers to interact with usb-connected smart card readers.

  ==> libpam-pkcs11 <==
  [Availability]
Source package pam-pkcs11 is in universe and builds on all architectures.

  [Rationale]
The desktop team and security team are interested in bringing smartcard
  authentication to enterprise desktop environments.

  [Security]
  No CVEs in our database.
Doesn't appear to bind to sockets.
No privileged executables (but is a PAM module).
As a PAM module this will require a security review.

  [Quality assurance]
The package does not call pam-auth-update in its postinst #1650366
Does not ask questions during install.
One Ubuntu bug claims very poor behaviour if a card isn't plugged in.
  No Debian bugs.
Occasional updates in Debian by long-term maintainer.
Does require odd hardware that we'll probably need to buy.
Does not appear to run tests during build.
Has scary warnings in the build logs.
  Has a debian/watch file.

Ancient standards version; other smaller lintian messages, mostly
  documentation problems.

  Quilt packaging.

  [Dependencies]
  Depends on libcurl4, libldap-2.4-2, libpam0g, libpcsclite1, libssl1.1
  All are in main.

  [Standards compliance]
The package does not call pam-auth-update in its postinst #1650366
Otherwise looks to conform to FHS and Debian policies

  [Maintenance]
The desktop team will subscribe to bugs, however it is expected that the
security team will assist with security-relevant questions.

  [Background information]
This PAM module can use CRLs and full-chain verification of certificates.
It can also do LDAP, AD, and Kerberos username mapping.

  [Security]
There are no cves for pcsc-perl in our database.

Doesn't appear to bind to sockets.
  Probably needs a security review.

  [Quality assurance]
Library package not intended to be used directly.
  No debconf questions.
  No bugs in Debian.
  No bugs in Ubuntu.
Does require odd hardware that we'll probably need to buy.
Tests exist, not run during the build; probably can't run during the build.
  Includes debian/watch file.

  [Dependencies]
  libpcsc-perl depends upon libpcsclite1, libc6, perl, perlapi-5.30.0.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1830746] Re: memlock setting in systemd (pid 1) too low for containers (bionic)

2020-09-10 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
Hi Sebastian, thanks for offering help. And thanks of course Kees for reporting
the issue!
Recently we faced a build breakage of cryptsetup package narrowed to this
issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cryptsetup/+bug/1891473

I intend to bump this limit to 64M to match recent releases; I'm using
the upstream systemd commit for this:
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/91cfdd8d29

Cheers,

Guilherme

Title:
update-initramfs generates wrong RESUME if no swap + zram

Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in initramfs-tools package in Debian:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
On a system with swap disabled (removed from /etc/fstab) and package
zram-config installed update-initramfs -u will emit something like
  following:

I: The initramfs will attempt to resume from /dev/zram1
  I: (UUID=1d4b8573-7eee-43c9-a02a-10a65fc17b8a)
I: Set the RESUME variable to override this.

Obviously, resuming from zram device without actual non-volatile
storage is not going to work. update-initramfs should be fixed to
ignore /dev/zram* because otherwise the user must e.g. create file
  /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume-none with case-sensitive contents

  RESUME=none

to workaround the issue, which may be a bit hard to guess from the
  above notice only.

If we edit /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf and COMPRESS=lz4, to

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
"initramfs unpacking failed: Decoding failed", message appears on
  boot up.

If I "update-initramfs" using gzip instead of lz, then boot up passes
  without decoding failed message.

  ---

However, we currently believe that the decoding error reported in
dmesg is actually harmless and has no impact on usability on the
  system.

Switching from lz4 to gzip compression, simply papers over the
warning, without any benefits, and slows down boot.

Kernel should be fixed to correctly parse lz4 compressed initrds, or
at least lower the warning, to not be user visible as an error.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1698388] Re: Assertion failure in journal-remote-parse.c

2020-09-10 Thread Dan Streetman
I at least verified the update doesn't appear to cause any obvious
regression:

start server:

ubuntu@lp1698388-x:~$ dpkg -l |grep systemd-journal-remote
ii systemd-journal-remote 229-4ubuntu21.29
amd64tools for sending and receiving remote journal logs

ubuntu@lp1698388-x:~$ /lib/systemd/systemd-journal-remote -o /tmp/journal-test

then in separate terminal:

ubuntu@lp1698388-x:~$ /lib/systemd/systemd-journal-upload -u
http://127.0.0.1:7000

then check if uploaded:

ubuntu@lp1698388-x:~$ ls -l /tmp/journal-test/
total 8196
-rw-r- 1 ubuntu ubuntu 8388608 Sep 10 17:03 remote-127.0.0.1.journal
ubuntu@lp1698388-x:~$ journalctl --file

Bug description:
  [impact]

  assertion failure in systemd-journal-remote

  [test case]

only happens under specific circumstances, which is unclear exactly
  how to reproduce it

  [regression potential]

any regression would likely result in the failure/crash of systemd-
journal-remote program while processing data from a remote source.

  [scope]

this is needed only for x.

this is fixed by commit 9ba37525d0ef3d144a50ed5fd4710573e92b7ec1 which
is included upstream starting in v230, so this is already included in
  b and later.

  [original description]

I am observing the following assertion failure in systemd-journal-
  remote:

  Assertion 'source->filled <= source->size' failed at ../src/journal-
  remote/journal-remote-parse.c:95, function get_line(). Aborting.

  Description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
  Release: 16.04

  Package version:

  systemd:
    Installed: 229-4ubuntu13

It looks like this issue has been fixed upstream in v230, specifically
  in commit 9ba37525d0ef3d144a50ed5fd4710573e92b7ec1. Could this
  particular commit be backported?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 938751] Re: Images are washed out or colors are skewed in some apps (particularly Image Viewer and Chrome)

2020-09-10 Thread Ivan Smirnov
A good demonstration of this bug is taking recursive screenshots, as it
makes the distortion of the colours that much more noticeable (see
attachment, made with eog and gnome-screenshot with a colour profile
on).

Whatever the root cause is - the success rate of these has reduced so
much that the (even formerly questionable) practice of retry-until-

I have run the two tests in a local VM and systemd-fsckd works there while
tests-in-lxd seems to trip over the old flaky fellow being "boot-and-services".

We had the discussion in the past, but I think I need to again bring
up the suggestion to skip "tests-in-lxd" and "systemd-fsckd" until
they are on reasonable success rates.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1888598] Re: pulseaudio has is buggy with hdmi audio and sleep/wake

2020-09-10 Thread Tessa
"after resume, the active output device is hdmi-stereo-0 (monitor)?" ->
as I've noted before, for some reason after resume, it switches around
the numbering which output is actually which physical connection. this
is could be the root cause of the issue I'm seeing, but given all the
other weirdness (dummy audio outputs being created, switching sometimes
randomly to the motherboard spdif instead, etc) it's really hard to be
sure.

I can't actually switch around the ports. I only have one HDMI output,
so that has to go to the home theatre system. and if I plug my monitor
into any output but the one it's connected to, the boot prompt to
decrypt my drive is invisible and I can't navigate any other boot
settings or issues either, as NV cards only display boot output on one
display apparently. So I'm stuck with the ordering I have.

That being said, if pulse isn't waiting for everything to wake up after
resume before setting audio settings, no wonder I'm getting such broken,
inconsistent behaviour. That sounds like incredibly broken, bad design,
if it's the case, and should definitely be fixed.

  - it forgets which sound output device it's set to, and always reverse to the

  - I have two devices connected to my video card, one is a displayport
monitor, and one is a home theater receiver via HDMI. it confuses the two, and

  - it sometimes refuses to switch to the correct audio device, and just resets

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1888598] Re: pulseaudio has is buggy with hdmi audio and sleep/wake

2020-09-10 Thread Hui Wang
With the log of #33, after resume, the active output device is hdmi-
stereo-0 (monitor)?

BTW, it looks like you still use the workaround of #19 (load-module
module-switch-on-connect blacklist=""), since this workaround doesn't help,
please drop it.

And after dropping the (load-module module-switch-on-connect blacklist=""),
please plug your monitor to hdmi/dp port1, and plug your home theatre to
hdim/dp port0, then redo the test of #33, and upload a new log.

For the hdmi/dp ports, port0 has higher priority than port1, if hdmi-
port0 resume earlier than hdmi-port1, the profile of hdmi-port1 will
have no chance to be active.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1895134] [NEW] [Ffe] openexr

2020-09-10 Thread Gianfranco Costamagna
Public bug reported:

Openexr in Ubuntu is dated 2018, and suffers from lots of bugs, fixed in
the last two years by upstream.

Also some security fixes have been added in the Ubuntu packaging, but
they are now superseeded by

the new upstream changes.

The sync will bring the package again in a good shape, and I already
prepared the transition in bileto, with no issues and no regressions in
buildability.

the changes between 2.3.0 and 2.5.3 are listed here
https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openexr/blob/master/CHANGES.md#version-240-september-19-2019

and the bileto/autopkgtests are here:

(note: kio-extras has a missing b-d in proposed pocket, unrelated to
this)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1894833] Re: [Dell XPS 15 7590, Realtek ALC3266, Mic, Internal] Lots of background noise on internal microphone

2020-09-10 Thread Mircea Baja
** Description changed:

Problem: Lots of background noise on the internal microphone. If I
record it in Audacity it seems that most of the noise is in the Left-
Front channel. The Right-Front channel is still noisy/bad quality, but
  not as bad.

Hardware: Dell XPS 15 7590 laptop (basically 2019 model)
  OS: Ubuntu 20.04 fresh/plain installation:
  $ lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
  Release: 20.04

  Other tests:
  - If I use a external/USB headsets+microphone sound is fine
  - If I boot from Ubuntu 20.04 live USB it still has the problem
- - If I boot from Ubuntu 19.10 live USB it still has the problem
+ - Tested with other versions/distributions, but it still has the problem:
ubuntu-19.10-desktop-amd64, linuxmint-20-cinnamon-64bit,
Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-32-1.6, xubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-amd64,
pop-os_20.04_amd64_nvidia_13, ubuntu-18.04.5-desktop-amd64

  - I tried many steps involving changing config files e.g.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/PositionReporting + reboot, none fixed the
problem, reverted the config files back after every change

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1894881] Re: [XPS 13 9300, Realtek ALC289, Speaker, Internal] Pulseaudio fails to detect card

2020-09-10 Thread Gilbertf
I dont believe this to really be a bug. If I leave the sound keys alone
after boot and login and let the Pulse and soudcard be ready, no problem
hapoens. You just need to avoid using those keys just after login or at
login prompt.

Ok to close this ?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1871538] Re: dbus timeout-ed during an upgrade, taking services down including gdm

2020-09-10 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
I've a similar issue on Groovy. I got it 2 days in a row after my daily package
update.
Reverting the machine to a state before the upgrade and re-upgrading the same
packages doesn't reproduce the issue. However, when it worked with the same
package update the message "Unexpected error response from GetNameOwner()" is
not present in the logs.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1894329] Re: ZFS revert from grub menu not working.

2020-09-10 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
I'm closing the zsys task because it is an issue with dd not zsys. For
lack of fix in dd we will implement the workaround as a last resort.

** Changed in: zsys (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Invalid

Title:
ZFS revert from grub menu not working.

Status in coreutils package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in zfs-linux package in Ubuntu:

Status in zsys package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
@coreutils maintainers, any idea why dd is being flagged as having an
  executable stack?

When I try to revert to a previous state from the grub menu, the boot
fails. The system drops me to a repair modus.

  zfs-mount-generator fails with the message:
couldn't ensure boot: Mounted clone bootFS dataset created by initramfs
doesn't have a valid _suffix (at least .*_): \"rpool/ROOT/ubuntu_\"".

After a reboot I have an extra clone called "rpool/ROOT/ubuntu_", indeed
without a suffix.
After a little investigation I found the problem in
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/zfs at the end in function
  uid()
  {
     dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/stdout bs=1 count=100 2>/dev/null | tr -dc
'a-z0-9' | cut -c-6
}, the dd command fails during boot with the message "process 'dd' started
with executable stack.
After this an empty uid is returned which explains the dataset without a
proper suffix.
  Replacing the function with:
  uid()
  {
     grep -a -m10 -E "\*" /dev/urandom 2>/dev/null | tr -dc 'a-z0-9' | cut -c-6
  }

  fixes the problem.

  Ubuntu version is:
  Description:Ubuntu Groovy Gorilla (development branch)
  Release:20.10

  zfs-initramfs version is:
  0.8.4-1ubuntu11

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1698388] Re: Assertion failure in journal-remote-parse.c

2020-09-10 Thread Ruud van Asseldonk
I’m sorry, we stopped using systemd-journal-remote a few months after I
opened this issue, I am no longer able to reproduce.

Title:
  Assertion failure in journal-remote-parse.c

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in systemd source package in Xenial:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [impact]

  assertion failure in systemd-journal-remote

  [test case]

only happens under specific circumstances, which is unclear exactly
  how to reproduce it

  [regression potential]

any regression would likely result in the failure/crash of systemd-
journal-remote program while processing data from a remote source.

  [scope]

this is needed only for x.

this is fixed by commit 9ba37525d0ef3d144a50ed5fd4710573e92b7ec1 which
is included upstream starting in v230, so this is already included in
  b and later.

  [original description]

I am observing the following assertion failure in systemd-journal-
  remote:

  Assertion 'source->filled <= source->size' failed at ../src/journal-
  remote/journal-remote-parse.c:95, function get_line(). Aborting.

  Systemd version:

+GCRYPT +GNUTLS +ACL +XZ -LZ4 +SECCOMP +BLKID +ELFUTILS +KMOD -IDN

  Ubuntu release:

  Description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
  Release: 16.04

  Package version:

  systemd:
    Installed: 229-4ubuntu13
    Candidate: 229-4ubuntu17

It looks like this issue has been fixed upstream in v230, specifically
  in commit 9ba37525d0ef3d144a50ed5fd4710573e92b7ec1. Could this
  particular commit be backported?

Title:
pulseaudio has is buggy with hdmi audio and sleep/wake
