  [Test Plan]

   * Install ubuntu-dbgsym-keyring package
   * Add ddebs.ubuntu.com repository for your release
   * sudo apt update must be successful

  [Where problems could occur]

   * At the moment the signature was bumped by one year
   * Meaning this issue will occur again in 2022
   * Instead the key must be set to not expire & new round of SRUs issued

Yes, this was installed using a nightly hirsute-live-server-amd64.iso,

Bug description:
  For many months now, whenever any mouse drag is attempted in an
  application using the gtk tool kit, the application immediately
  crashes. I've noticed this at least in Firefox and thunar. It also
  occurs when displaying these applications from a Virtualbox machine or
  from another server running something other than Ubuntu. The VM was
  running CentOS 8 and the remote server was running Mageia. Both
  Firefox and thunar run fine with Mageia's Xorg. It seems like the
  issue may be with the Xorg server on Ubuntu.

  I tried setting the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE variable to various settings but
  was unable to produce further debug output. The only other debug
  output I was able to gather is when running thunar with the --gtk-
  debug parameter (attached). I also tried running thunar with GDB but
  without recompiling it, it doesn't produce much information other than
  it's stopping in glib.

  Let me know what other information I can provide.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1888598] Re: Pulseaudio breaks HDMI audio on sleep/wake

Title:
  Pulseaudio breaks HDMI audio on sleep/wake

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  on a fresh Ubuntu 20.04 x64 install, I've noticed some troubling bugs
  with pulseaudio after putting my system to sleep and then waking it
  up. these bugs aren't present on a fresh boot, only after resuming
  from sleep:

  - it forgets which sound output device it's set to, and always reverse to the
motherboard's S/PDIF output.
  - I have two devices connected to my video card, one is a displayport
monitor, and one is a home theater receiver via HDMI. it confuses the two, and
randomly switches which device it thinks is capable of surround sound.
  - it sometimes refuses to switch to the correct audio device, and just resets
any choice back to the internal S/PDIF, until the system is rebooted.

  as you can imagine, this a pretty frustrating state of affairs.

2021-03-27 Thread Sudavar
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1722478 ***

I am also having this problem on a Thinkpad T450s with
OS: elementary 5.1.7 Hera (built on Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS)
Kern: Linux 5.4.0-70-generic

The driver "restart" solution (sudo modprobe -r psmouse && sudo modprobe
psmouse) worked for me as well

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1896171] Re: Wayland GL apps appear corrupt on Raspberry Pi 4B (v3d driver)

2021-03-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package mutter - 3.38.4-1ubuntu1

---
mutter (3.38.4-1ubuntu1) hirsute; urgency=medium

  * Merge with debian, containing new upstream release.
  * debian/tests: Adapt autopkgtest name and linked library to current soname
  * debian/tests/control: Update references to libmutter-7-dev
  * debian/patches: Remove Input Thread backport patches.
It has been fun, but we decided to revert this, so here it is.
(LP: #1918874, LP: #1919310)
  * debian/control: Set breaks on gnome-shell 3.38.4.
That's the first version on which we'll remove the input thread patches
  * debian/libmutter-7-0.symbols: Revert symbol changes due to input thread
  * debian/patches: Add support for ABFR2101010 in v3d used by Raspberry Pi 4
(LP: #1896171)
  * debian/patches: Handle NVIDIA's zero presentation times (LP: #1880086)
  * debian/patches: Properly handle configuration events on windows
(LP: #191793)
  * Remaining changes with debian:
- debian/gbp.conf: update upstream branch to point to ubuntu/master
- debian/patches/x11-Add-support-for-fractional-scaling-using-Randr.patch:
  + X11: Add support for fractional scaling using Randr

mutter (3.38.4-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload
  * New upstream release
- Fix Wayland spec compliance when reordering subsurfaces.
  This is likely to be required by future Firefox versions in native
  Wayland mode.
- Many other fixes that we already had via debian/patches
  * Drop most patches, included in the new upstream release

mutter (3.38.3-5) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload

  [ Marco Trevisan (Treviño) ]
  * debian/patches: Include a missing commit from upstream gnome-3-38
branch to fix X11 UI stutters

mutter (3.38.3-4) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload

  [ Marco Trevisan (Treviño) ]
  * debian/patches: cherry-pick more upstream gnome-3-38 fixes
- Correctly restore focus to applications that use globally active
  input handling, such as AWT/Swing Java apps
- Disable double buffered shadow buffering, which was intended to
  improve performance with e.g. llvmpipe but currently makes it worse
  * debian/tests: Adapt autopkgtest name and linked library to current soname
  * debian/tests/control: Update references to libmutter-7-dev

  [ Simon McVittie ]
  * d/patches: Update to commit 3.38.3-26-g30c542ddc from gnome-3-38 branch
- Fix X11 frame timing getting stuck if frames are skipped, resulting
  in X11 applications not always being redrawn when they should be
- Fix a crash when clicking below titlebar with broken GTK themes

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1918410] Re: isc-dhcp-client denied by apparmor

2021-03-27 Thread John Johansen
Okay adding the suggested rule

works for me. So it would seem dhclient is treating denied access to comm as a
fatal error.

Interestingly I also had it throw a rejection for capability sys_module

[ 1645.480546] audit: type=1400 audit(1616847221.859:73):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="capable" profile="/{,usr/}sbin/dhclient"
pid=3380 comm="dhclient" capability=16  capname="sys_module"

which should not generally be required anymore. See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/isc-dhcp/+bug/1759032

Title:
  isc-dhcp-client denied by apparmor

Status in isc-dhcp package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi, I get weird errors in the audit log, seeing dhclient is being
  denied reading its comm or the comm of one of its tasks:

  [1383307.827378] audit: type=1400 audit(1615367094.054:162):

name="/proc/1095210/task/1095213/comm" pid=1095210 comm="dhclient"
requested_mask="wr" denied_mask="wr" fsuid=0 ouid=0

  This might or might not be linked with the fact that I can't get an
  IPv4 on this interface. Note that it happened to other, see this
  comment:

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/1413232/comments/8

  Or even an article recommending disabling apparmor for dhclient(!):

https://blog.anthony-jacob.com/perte-dip-v4-sous-ubuntu-20-04-apparmor-et-dhclient/

  As I said, I'm not sure this is the root cause of the lack of IPv4 renewal,
because running it manually *does* succeed in getting an IP. And running it in
strace shows the EACCES failure:

  [pid 1095210] openat(AT_FDCWD, "/proc/self/task/1095211/comm", O_RDWRstrace:
Process 1095211 attached
  ) = -1 EACCES (Permission non accordée)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1918410] Re: isc-dhcp-client denied by apparmor

2021-03-27 Thread John Johansen
To further elaborate on why dhclient is accessing the comm

$ pstree -at 3395
dhclient ens3
  ├─{isc-socket}
  ├─{isc-timer}
  └─{isc-worker}

where 3395 is the process. It has 3 additional threads and it is
providing functional names for them.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1918410] Re: isc-dhcp-client denied by apparmor

2021-03-27 Thread John Johansen
Denying
  /proc/1095210/task/1095213/comm

prevents the task from introspecting (reading), and changing (write) the
command text associated with the task. In this case it would appear one
thread is attempting to change the comm of another thread in the process
(this is generally allowed), see man 5 proc

Reading isn't considered a problem, writing is more interesting. A
process may use it to provide more info, like this is a sandbox thread,
renderer etc. But a compromised task could also use it to masquerade its
comm as another task. It won't hide the task but could make it harder to
kill or monitor if the user is looking for the default comm value.

Denying this is not directly related to lack of IPv4 (kernel wise it has
no relation), but application behavior could be such that when it fails
to access the comm field it handles the error poorly resulting in it
failing to setup IPv4.

I would recommend a modification to the above rule, changing [0-9]* to
@{pids}

  @{PROC}/@{pids}/task/[0-9]*/comm rw,

Does adding the above rule fix the IPv4 issue for you? From comment #3 I
assume no, but maybe I am reading it wrong. Are there any other denials
in your logs?

As for disabling AppArmor for dhclient? It is precisely the the type of service
(network facing root service) I would not recommend disabling the apparmor
profile for. Instead updating the profile is the way to go.

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/1413232/comments/8

  Or even an article recommending disabling apparmor for dhclient(!):

https://blog.anthony-jacob.com/perte-dip-v4-sous-ubuntu-20-04-apparmor-et-dhclient/

  As I said, I'm not sure this is the root cause of the lack of IPv4 renewal,
because running it manually *does* succeed in getting an IP. And running it in
strace shows the EACCES failure:

  [pid 1095210] openat(AT_FDCWD, "/proc/self/task/1095211/comm", O_RDWRstrace:
Process 1095211 attached
  ) = -1 EACCES (Permission non accordée)

however on a log out and back in (i.e. not a reboot, but end and start an X

  Because of this, machine has become very slow and response time is awful
  Login into the machine, even trying to launch a simple program can take up to
30 seconds of wait before anything happens.

  Sound was working fine with previous kernel.
