[Touch-packages] [Bug 1916651] Re: asks about irc user home directory during upgrade

2021-07-02 Thread Rene Brünjes
Had the same issue but installed and removed "teamviewer" a view days
before upgrading to 21.04. Could user "irc" being left from this former
program installation?

Title:
  asks about irc user home directory during upgrade

Status in base-passwd package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in base-passwd source package in Hirsute:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  [Test Case]
  1) On an Ubuntu 20.10 system edit your /etc/apt/sources.list file to have
hirsute instead of groovy
  2) Run apt-get update
  3) Execute 'sudo apt-get install base-passwd'

  With the version of base-passwd you'll receive a prompt about moving
  the 'irc' user's home directory from '/var/run/ircd' to '/run/ircd'.

  [Original Description]
  Upgrading from groovy to hirsuite, base-passwd asks if the `irc` user's home
directory should be moved from `/var/run/ircd` to `/run/ircd`. Having no IRC
server installed makes this very confusing, but appears harmless
(https://askubuntu.com/questions/876975/user-irc-inside-of-default-ubuntu-16-04-server).
  Possibly caused by https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=946884,
but can this not prompt the user for a decision?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1934545] Re: package initramfs-tools 0.130ubuntu3.12 failed to install/upgrade: installed initramfs-tools package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2021-07-02 Thread Matt Michielsen
After this report, it automatically ran something like dpkg --configure
--pending, which succeeded in running the lilo update. The only thing it
didn't do was run autoremove to remove the outdated libraries and stuff.
Rebooted into the new kernel via lilo successfully as well.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1934439] Re: Add Ubuntu Pro banner to Livepatch page

2021-07-02 Thread Lech Sandecki
Thanks for sharing that, Robert.

I like the idea to rename the Livepatch tab to Ubuntu Pro and this is
the design that I think is planned for 21.10. That said, the idea of
adding that banner to the 'software updates' card is worth discussing if
it's as easy to implement as the current design.

Dismissing the banner is ok and I don't think it should return. I also
don't think that we need to make it automatically disappear if you
attached your desktop. At this stage, I am not even sure if you will be
aware when a subscription got attached, but for 21.10 you will have to
know that.

The link would most probably take you to ubuntu.com/advantage.
Hopefully, it can be updated at a later stage if we see a need for a
dedicated /desktop/pro page.

By 21.10 we should have a target design ready and it will be implemented
by another SRU. I don't expect any other "non-beta" conversion to happen
between now and 21.10 therefore I don't see a need for smart beta-status
management.

hope it helps!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1796758] Re: Because gnome-terminal-server is launched by systemd --user, logging out and back in doesn't reinit groups

2021-07-02 Thread Jonathan Kamens
This is still a problem but I'm not convinced it's enough of a problem
to warrant reopening the ticket.

I run into this because my `systemd --user` process persists between
logins because I have persistent service units running under it. For
most people `systemd --user` will exit when they log out, so for most
people, logging out and logging back in will indeed reset their groups.

Title:
  Because gnome-terminal-server is launched by systemd --user, logging
  out and back in doesn't reinit groups

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Since the beginning of time, the way to apply changes to one's group
  memberships in UNIX has been to log out and log back in again.

  In current Ubuntu, that doesn't work. When you add yourself to a
  group, close all of your windows, log out, log back in again, and open
  a new gnome-terminal window, and your group memberships will be the
  same as before.

  This is because gnome-terminal processes are launched by gnome-
  terminal-server, which is launched by systemd --user, which doesn't
  exit when you log out.

  One possible fix would be to have the systemd init process (i.e.,
  process 1) detect when group memberships have changed and re-launch
  the systemd --user processes for the users whose groups have changed.
  Another fix would be to kill systemd --user processes upon logout and
  have systemd re-launch them.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1931958] Re: 0~git20200629+e7aa92a-8 is FTFBS

2021-07-02 Thread Heather Ellsworth
The gstreamer commit that fixes the issue is on gstreamer master on
2021-06-23:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gstreamer/-/commit/b16e96dd878e0c5e7baeb8fad62ca43de1f66982

So this should be picked up in the next tag, which might be in a month
or so. Then that gstreamer needs to be picked up by debian and ubuntu
and released. But the whole time we're holding libcamera back while
waiting for the one gstreamer commit. So I wonder if the Ubuntu
gstreamer maintainers would consider pulling this commit in early.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1891215] Re: systemd-resolved re-creates /run/systemd/resolve/*resolv.conf for every IPv6 RA received

2021-07-02 Thread Samy Mahmoudi
> whereas in truth the combination of
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/17535 and its networkd
counterpart did not resolve it.

This statement is most probably not correct: what I meant is that the
changes made upstream did not resolve our issue.

Because the issue was fixed upstream a few months ago, I was under the
assumption that we were running a version of systemd that included the
fixes, which is clearly not the case: I realized that after Yu Watanabe
mentioned a discrepancy between the versions.

  v248, so this is needed in hirsute and earlier

  [original description]

  # Issue description:

  On 2 Linode VMs that are used as lxd hosts, we noticed that
  /run/systemd/resolve/*resolv.conf were re-created quite frequently (~
  once per second). We noticed because of the log noise from lxd's
  dnsmasq instance using inotify to watch the target of /etc/resolv.conf
  (which points to the stub-resolv.conf in our case). This was (wrongly)
  reported as a lxd bug (https://github.com/lxc/lxd/issues/7765) until
  it became apparent it was more likely to be a problem with
  systemd(-resolved)?.

  The log noise is the observable problem that would be nice to see
  addressed:

    root@lxd02:~# uptime
     17:55:48 up  9:52,  1 user,  load average: 0.18, 0.11, 0.05
    root@lxd02:~# journalctl -b0 | grep -cF dnsmasq
    158609

  Upon further investigation, it seems that systemd-resolved re-creates
  the resolv.conf and stub-resolv.conf files whenever an IPv6 RA is
  received.

  1) One can observe that by setting systemd-resolved's service in debug
  mode:

  $ sudo systemctl edit systemd-resolved

  and in the editor that is opened, add and save this content:

  [Service]
  Environment=SYSTEMD_LOG_LEVEL=debug

  then restart systemd-resolved and watch the logs scroll by with:

  $ journalctl -fu systemd-resolved

  3) In another terminal, watch the files be recreated with:

  watch -d -n 0.1 stat /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf

  3) In yet another terminal, run a packet capture and watch "ICMP6,
  router advertisement" messages come by:

  sudo tcpdump -ni eth0 icmp6

  You will see that every time a RA packet comes in, resolved's journal
  will log this:

    Aug 11 17:33:55 lxd02 systemd-resolved[15368]: Sent message
  type=signal sender=n/a destination=n/a path=/org/freedesktop/resolve1
  interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties member=PropertiesChanged
  cookie=244 reply_cookie=0 signature=sa{sv}as error-name=n/a error-
  message=n/a

  And the stat monitoring terminal will blink to highlight the new inode
  and timestamps of the freshly replaced stub-resolv.conf file.

Bug description:
  "initramfs unpacking failed: Decoding failed", message appears on
  boot up.

  If I "update-initramfs" using gzip instead of lz, then boot up passes
  without decoding failed message.

  ---

  However, we currently believe that the decoding error reported in
  dmesg is actually harmless and has no impact on usability on the
  system.

  Switching from lz4 to gzip compression, simply papers over the
  warning, without any benefits, and slows down boot.

  Kernel should be fixed to correctly parse lz4 compressed initrds, or
  at least lower the warning, to not be user visible as an error.

  [Impact]

   * Decoding failure messages in dmsg with a single lz4 initrd

   * Multiple lz4 compressed initrds cannot be decompressed by kernel,
  when loaded by grub

   * Multiple lz4 compressed initrds cannot be decompressed by kernel,
  when there is padding between them

  [Test Case]

   * Create empty padding with $ dd if=/dev/zero of=pad4 bs=1 count=4

   * Create an lz4 compressed initrd with a single test-file in it with
  some content. I.e. echo "second-initrd" > test-file, and then pack
  that with cpio hewc owned by root & lz4 -l.

   * Create a combined padded initrd of stock initrd, pad4, and the
  test-marker initrd created above.

   * Boot above with "break=top" kernel command line.

   * With broken kernels, there should be dmesg error message that
  decoding failed, and one will observe that /test-file does not exist
  in the shell.

   * With fixed kernel, /test-file in the initrd shell should exist, and
  should have the expected content "second-initrd".

   * The alignment and padding in the above test case depends on the
  size of the first initrd => if a given padded initrd does not
  reproduce the problem, try varying the size of the first initrd or
  that of the padding between 0..4.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * This changes compatible lz4 decompressor in the kernel, which can
  also be used by other kernel modules such as cryptography, squashfs,
  zram, f2fs, comprssed kernel image, pstore. For example, previously
  rejected files with "bogus" length and extra padding may now be
  accepted, whereas they were previously getting rejected by the
  decompressor.

   * Ideally kernel should switch to the stable lz4 format which has
  better specification of end of stream.

  $ sudo systemctl edit systemd-resolved

  and in the editor that is opened, add and save this content:

  [Service]
  Environment=SYSTEMD_LOG_LEVEL=debug

  then restart systemd-resolved and watch the logs scroll by with:

  $ journalctl -fu systemd-resolved

  3) In another terminal, watch the files be recreated with:

  watch -d -n 0.1 stat /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf

  3) In yet another terminal, run a packet capture and watch "ICMP6,
  router advertisement" messages come by:

  sudo tcpdump -ni eth0 icmp6

  You will see that every time a RA packet comes in, resolved's journal
  will log this:

    Aug 11 17:33:55 lxd02 systemd-resolved[15368]: Sent message
  type=signal sender=n/a destination=n/a path=/org/freedesktop/resolve1
  interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties member=PropertiesChanged
  cookie=244 reply_cookie=0 signature=sa{sv}as error-name=n/a error-
  message=n/a

  And the stat monitoring terminal will blink to highlight the new inode
  and timestamps of the freshly replaced stub-resolv.conf file.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1788459] Please test proposed package

2021-07-02 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Robert, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gssproxy into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gssproxy/0.8.2-2ubuntu0.20.04.1 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

  [ Where problems could occur ]

  * The backported patch is simple and it is very unlikely that it will
introduce a regression.
  * As usual, it is always risky to rebuild a package that hasn't been touched
for more than 1 year, albeit in this case the risk is very low because the
package is not very complex.

  [ Original Description ]

  I have apache configured to perform a kerberized NFS4 mount using
  rpc.gssd and gssproxy.

  If I request a web page that requires NFS4 access, then gssproxy
  crashes, reporting a segfault in libselinux.so.1 and the web request
  generates a 403 error.

  gssproxy[6267]: segfault at 0 ip 7f2f5bb1951a sp 7ffe861da150
  error 4 in libselinux.so.1[7f2f5bb0d000+25000]

  If I run gssproxy at debug level = 3, and then load a web page, I can
  see the uid/principal request for www-data come in from rpc.gssd:

  # gssproxy -d --debug-level=3 -i -C /etc/gssproxy

  [2018/08/22 17:51:40]: Debug Enabled (level: 3)
  [2018/08/22 17:52:06]: Client [2018/08/22 17:52:06]: (/usr/sbin/rpc.gssd)

(uid = 33) (gid = 33)Segmentation fault (core dumped)

  Since gssproxy is required to initiate kerberos principals for any
  local application services - Ubuntu 18.04 does not currently support
  running application services with NFS4 kerberos dependencies. This
  has a fairly significant impact on anyone attempting to implement
  kerberos on Ubuntu 18.04

  directx-headers: a new package, nothing can go wrong

  libdrm: adds some new api, no changes to old stuff

  llvm-12: a new package, no regression potential on it's own

  mesa: a new major release, but we'll pull the final stable release of
  21.0.x series, so there shouldn't be any regressions left at that

  xserver: a new point-release, 1.20.x series is in deep maintenance

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1932537] Re: CUPS + SSSD: cannot access local CUPS web interface with domain user (apparmor problem)

Title:
  CUPS + SSSD: cannot access local CUPS web interface with domain user
  (apparmor problem)

Status in apparmor package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  [Summary]
  My domain user can not access the local CUPS web interface due to apparmor
denials.

  Adding the following two lines to /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.cupsd
  fixes it:

  /var/lib/sss/pipes/private/pam rw,
  unix (bind) type=dgram addr=@userdb-*,

  [Details]
  I have a (relatively) clean install of Ubuntu 20.04 (no upgrade), which is
joined to a Windows AD-domain via sssd, but currently used off site with cached
credentials.

  When I try to log in with my domain user (who is in the lpadmingroup) at the
local cups web interface (localhost:631 ...> Add Printer) with the default
apparmor config for cupsd I get a:
  AVC apparmor="DENIED" operation="connect" profile="/usr/sbin/cupsd"
name="/var/lib/sss/pipes/private/pam" pid=189759 comm="cupsd"
requested_mask="wr" denied_mask="wr" fsuid=0 ouid=0

  This already existed in Bionic and my workaround was to add
'/var/lib/sss/pipes/private/pam rw,' to /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.cupsd
and reload the profile:
  # echo '/var/lib/sss/pipes/private/pam rw,' >
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.cupsd
  # apparmor_parser -r -W -T /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd

  This worked in Bionic, but leads to a crash of cupsd in Focal when I try to
log in as domain user with a the following log message nearby:
  AVC apparmor="DENIED" operation="bind" profile="/usr/sbin/cupsd" pid=189759
comm="cupsd" family="unix" sock_type="dgram" protocol=0 requested_mask="bind"
denied_mask="bind" addr="@userdb-7625b1ef65396344ef05f0a8aeda870e"

  This looks very similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1890858 , so I applied
the same fix and added 'unix (bind) type=dgram addr=@userdb-*,' to
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.cupsd:
  # echo 'unix (bind) type=dgram addr=@userdb-*,' >>
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.cupsd
  # apparmor_parser -r -W -T /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd

  Which fixed my problem.

  I am not an expert on apparmor, so I have no idea, if the first line
  gives too broad permissions.

  I think that there are two unrelated issues:
  1) Cupsd cannot access sssd at all. This already existed in Bionic (but I
failed to report the issue -- sorry for that).
  2) Once the login succeeds, cups tries to resolve a uid/gid as it isn't known
locally. To resolve it it needs to bind a unix socket. See:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1890858/comments/37

  I will attach a full log with added comments on what I did.

  [Infos]
  1) lsb_release -rd

  4) What happened instead:
  Access was denied (asked again for my credentials)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1934439] Re: Add Ubuntu Pro banner to Livepatch page

2021-07-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Hey Robert, I'm going to share some thoughts but ideally confirmation
would come from design

> - Does the banner only show if you haven't already attached this
machine to Ubuntu Advantage?

I guess it makes sense to only show it when the service isn't already in
use

> - When closing the banner, does it return next time?

The design on miro has a note 'Users should be able to permanently
dismis this', they didn't specify how, by asking the question when
dismissing I guess?

> Does it make sense for this to be in the "Livepatch" tab - should that
tab be renamed to "Ubuntu Pro" at the same time?

I think you pointed out during the first discussions that the banner
would make more sense in the updates tab, we should get design to
comment about that. Renaming sounds like an alternative

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1678187] Re: Removing a linux-image-extra package fails, if /boot is about full

2021-07-02 Thread Jarno Suni
Did you upgrade from older release or are the files generated when you
were using 20.04? Can you provide any logs concerning the issue? Do the
extra initrd.img* files match /boot/initrd.img-*.old-dkms, see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dkms/+bug/1515513 ? Or do you
still have the respective kernels (vmlinuz-* etc.) there, too?

It seems that my modified generate_initramfs function has not been
applied in /usr/sbin/update-initramfs in 20.04, so you can not remove a
kernel successfully. The modified version should do better job not
leaving extra files around IIRC. Anyway, it should be possible with my
linux-purge utility (https://launchpad.net/linux-purge).

--

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1678187

Title:
  Removing a linux-image-extra package fails, if /boot is about full

Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  System calls /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools when
  purging/removing a linux-image-extra package. That calls "update-
  initramfs -c" which needs significant amount of additional disk space
  in /boot temporarily. But there is no space left, if /boot is full.

  Likewise /etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms may call "update-initramfs -u".

  The fix could be to create the new initrg.img file in different partition
before replacing the old one by it in update-initramfs. So the update-initramfs
script should be fixed. But there may not be such a partition..
  Anyway the likely case when space runs out is when there is a separate /boot
partition.

  Alternatively the init scripts should remove the respective
/boot/initrd.img- file when removing/installing the linux-image-extra
package. That could also be done by
  update-initramfs -d -k
  That may be worse way, as then initrd.img file is missing for longer period
of time and system integrity may suffer in case of e.g. power cut.

  Related question: http://askubuntu.com/q/898499/21005
  The output of 'dpkg --purge' presented there shows that corresponding
linux-image package may get successfully removed while the linux-image-extra is
left broken. If the linux-image-extra package will be removed later, the
post-installation script will create an initrd.img file for a non-installed
kernel! Same would happen, if removing would be done by apt-get purge.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1788459] Re: gssproxy crashes in libselinux.so.1 on Ubuntu 18.04 when called by rpc.gssd

2021-07-02 Thread Koen Dierckx
I can confirm that manual build and install of gssproxy 0.8.4 works on my
ubuntu 20.04 server.
(that version has the patch mentioned above)

gssproxy solves my original issue of rpc-svcgssd hanging on large
kerberos tickets https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nfs-
utils/+bug/1466654

Hopefully this patch find its way fast through the official ubuntu
release channel

  [ Where problems could occur ]

  * The backported patch is simple and it is very unlikely that it will
introduce a regression.
  * As usual, it is always risky to rebuild a package that hasn't been touched
for more than 1 year, albeit in this case the risk is very low because the
package is not very complex.

  [ Original Description ]

  I have apache configured to perform a kerberized NFS4 mount using
  rpc.gssd and gssproxy.

  If I request a web page that requires NFS4 access, then gssproxy
  crashes, reporting a segfault in libselinux.so.1 and the web request
  generates a 403 error.

  gssproxy[6267]: segfault at 0 ip 7f2f5bb1951a sp 7ffe861da150
  error 4 in libselinux.so.1[7f2f5bb0d000+25000]

  If I run gssproxy at debug level = 3, and then load a web page, I can
  see the uid/principal request for www-data come in from rpc.gssd:

  # gssproxy -d --debug-level=3 -i -C /etc/gssproxy

  [2018/08/22 17:51:40]: Debug Enabled (level: 3)
  [2018/08/22 17:52:06]: Client [2018/08/22 17:52:06]: (/usr/sbin/rpc.gssd)
[2018/08/22 17:52:06]:  connected (fd = 10)[2018/08/22 17:52:06]:  (pid = 4548)
(uid = 33) (gid = 33)Segmentation fault (core dumped)

  Since gssproxy is required to initiate kerberos principals for any
  local application services - Ubuntu 18.04 does not currently support
  running application services with NFS4 kerberos dependencies. This
  has a fairly significant impact on anyone attempting to implement
  kerberos on Ubuntu 18.04

  Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
  gssproxy 0.8.0-1
  libselinux1:amd64 2.7-2build2
  libgssrpc4:amd64 1.16-2build1

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1696500] Re: /var/log/wtmp is updated to 1970-01-01 before systemd-update-utmp.service (or fake-hwclock)

This is still a problem in June 2021. Would you mind please explaining
the reason for not fixing it?

Title:
  /var/log/wtmp is updated to 1970-01-01 before systemd-update-
  utmp.service (or fake-hwclock)

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  I have a raspberry pi with fake-hwclock installed and it seems the
  documented behaviour doesn't work E.g. from /lib/systemd/system
  /systemd-timesyncd.service, specifically: "ensure [clock]
  monotonically advances even if the system lacks a battery-buffered RTC
  chip" - this doesn't actually happen.

  I have tried editing /lib/systemd/system/fake-hwclock.service to have:

  [Unit]
  Description=Restore / save the current clock
  Documentation=man:fake-hwclock(8)
  DefaultDependencies=no
  Before=systemd-update-utmp.service sysinit.target
  Conflicts=shutdown.target

  I also tried to edit /lib/systemd/system/systemd-update-utmp.service to have:

  [Unit]
  Description=Update UTMP about System Boot/Shutdown
  Documentation=man:systemd-update-utmp.service(8) man:utmp(5)
  DefaultDependencies=no
  RequiresMountsFor=/var/log/wtmp
  Conflicts=shutdown.target
  # After=systemd-remount-fs.service systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service
auditd.service fake-hwclock.service
  After=systemd-timesyncd.service fake-hwclock.service time-sync.target
  Before=sysinit.target shutdown.target

  [Service]
  Type=oneshot
  RemainAfterExit=yes
  ExecStartPre=/sbin/fake-hwclock load
  ExecStart=/lib/systemd/systemd-update-utmp reboot
  ExecStop=/lib/systemd/systemd-update-utmp shutdown

  However on reboot, the wtmp file is still being updated before
  systemd-update-utmp.service and fake-hwclock:

  $ last reboot | head -n 3
  reboot system boot 4.4.0-1055-raspi Thu Jan 1 01:00 still running
  reboot   system boot  4.4.0-1055-raspi Thu Jan  1 01:00 - 22:04
(17316+21:04)
  reboot   system boot  4.4.0-1055-raspi Thu Jan  1 01:00 - 22:04
(17316+21:04)

  Looking at the journalctl I can see the time is already set and
  /var/log/wtmp is already updated to 1970 before any of the above can
  run:

  $ sudo journalctl -u systemd-update-utmp
  -- Logs begin at Wed 2017-06-07 17:18:08 IST, end at Wed 2017-06-07
17:19:05 IST. --
  Jun 07 17:18:14 TimeBox systemd[1]: Starting Update UTMP about System
Boot/Shutdown...
  Jun 07 17:18:14 TimeBox fake-hwclock[823]: Current system time:
2017-06-07 16:18:14
  Jun 07 17:18:14 TimeBox fake-hwclock[823]: fake-hwclock saved clock
information is in the past: 2017-06-07 16:18:08
  Jun 07 17:18:14 TimeBox fake-hwclock[823]: To set system time to this
saved clock anyway, use "force"
  Jun 07 17:18:14 TimeBox systemd[1]: Started Update UTMP about System
Boot/Shutdown.

  So the "Update UTMP about System Boot/Shutdown." doesn't work, the
  time is already set to 1 Jan 1970 by something else.

  How do I run a service/command before /var/log/wtmp is touched and set
  to 1 Jan 1970? - It seems the documented behaviour/methods do not
  work.

  I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 with systemd 229-4ubuntu17

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1928733] Re: Starting systemd Network Service fails with "Invalid argument"

2021-07-02 Thread Dan Streetman
> If I understand correctly the fix will go in the latest Bionic

I think it's very unlikely that the very recent, and rather large,
patchset will get backported back to the relatively old and much
different codebase in bionic. I haven't looked at it in detail yet
though.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1894619] Re: [2.82 regression] router announcements have 'forever' lifetime by default

Ok, as planned I can reproduce this in local autopkgtest.

Multiple hits on:

Due to the changes this is dynamic->forever for some, but not all, of the
cases.
An MP has been proposed here [1] which in local VM based autopkgtest already
succeeded.
@Iain/Desktop-team - would you have a look and if you agree upload that NM
update?

Bug description:
  The default lifetime was changed to 1 day in 2.82 in the change
  corresponding to this changelog entry:

  Change default lease time for DHCPv6 to one day.

  Fine, but the same commit also did this:

Alter calculation of preferred and valid times in router
advertisements, so that these do not have a floor applied
of the lease time in the dhcp-range if this is not explicitly
specified and is merely the default.

  And that change is buggy and causes advertisements to have infinite
  lifetime, when you are using the default.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1678187] Re: Removing a linux-image-extra package fails, if /boot is about full

2021-07-02 Thread Hayden Clark
Just ran in to this on Ubuntu 20.04, with an encrypted root partition. The
partition layout is the one automatically generated when you install and ask
for root partition encryption - I didn't mess with it.
Drive is 512Gb NVME
Machine is a Lenovo Thinkbook 15
Kernel 5.8.0-59-generic

The /boot partition is 732Mb, but is filled with initrd.img* files.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1678187

  When the system is under memory pressure, the entire desktop session may
crash.

  [Fix]
  Commit f9d8d9acbb6a620684fb4dac4affe25816587d92 ("iris: Avoid abort() if
kernel can't allocate memory")

  [Test]
  Run memory stress and the session crashed in less than 5 minutes.
  With the fix applied, run memory stress for 24 hours and the desktop session
is still alive.

  [Where problems could occur]
  Doing a reset might make the system even more sluggish when under memory
pressure.

  == Original bug report ==
  I run checkbox job com.canonical.certification::memory/memory_stress_ng on
focal, and the xserver stops unexpectedly with the following stacktrace:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1918855] Re: Xorg xserver got signal 6 to abort

2021-07-02 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
I enable -proposed and do a dist-upgrade, then reboot and run stress-ng:
$ stress-ng --stack 0 --timeout 300
stress-ng: info:  [2493] dispatching hogs: 16 stack
stress-ng: info:  [2493] successful run completed in 300.63s (5 mins, 0.63 secs)

And the desktop session is still alive.

  gdm fails to start in a VMware Horizon VDI environment, with Nvidia
  GRID gpus passed into the VDIs.

  Downgrading mutter from 3.36.9-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 to 3.36.1-3ubuntu3 in
  -release fixes the issue, and the issue does not occur with
  3.36.7+git20201123-0.20.04.1.

  Currently looking into what landed in bug 1919143 and bug 1905825.
