  login to get a screen keyboard, sometimes I get the on board keyboard
  back, usually have to reboot to get on on board keyboard back.

  If I power off or restart keyboard works fine.

  Definite regression this has worked for several older versions of
  Ubuntu, at least on this system.

  Updating systemd kills network on bionic

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired
Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  I do have an ubuntu bionic server installation without a graphical interface.
The server
  has two active network adapters, both connected to the internet. One is used
for outgoing
  internet traffic, the other for incoming. The incoming adapter lives on a
public network segment
  (something like 88.236.133.104/29). I do have multiple servers within this
segment.

  Typically, I update the server regularly, meaning:

  * ssh to the incoming adapter: ssh 88.236.133.108
  * apt-get update
  * apt-get upgrade
  * apt-get dist-upgrade
  * apt-get clean
  * reboot

  It used to work ok.

  BUT: Today, "apt-get upgrade" seem to take really long when updating systemd.
  After a could of minutes, I realized that the ssh session became inactive. I
couldn't type
  into it, I had to abort it via ~. .

  * ssh from the internet to the incoming adapter was not working anymore - ssh
88.236.133.108
  * ssh via another server within the public network segment worked
  * ssh 88.236.133.106 -> ssh 88.236.133.108
  * After running "netplan apply" everything was fine again

  Here my netplan configuration (I changed the ip addresses):

  network:
version: 2
renderer: networkd
ethernets:
  eno1:
dhcp4: yes
  eno2:
dhcp4: no
addresses: [88.236.133.108/29]
#gateway4: 88.236.133.105
routes:
 - to: 0.0.0.0/0
   via: 88.236.133.105
   table: 120
routing-policy:
 - from: 88.236.133.108/32
   table: 120
 - to: 88.236.133.108/32
   table: 120

  Unfortunately, I don't have the console output avalable anymore.
  Shall I provide additional info?

  Best regards, Uli

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1940635] Re: systemd-networkd failing to acquire a DHCP6 lease from dnsmasq on armhf

Title:
  systemd-networkd failing to acquire a DHCP6 lease from dnsmasq on
  armhf

Status in glibc package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in netplan.io package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  systemd-networkd is failing to acquire a DCHP6 lease from dnsmasq on
  armhf since glibc 2.34-0ubuntu1, failing systemd (tests-name=networkd-
  test.py) and netplan.io (test-name=ethernets) tests on armhf.

  Reproducer:
  * Setup an armhf container, e.g. via:
  autopkgtest systemd --test-name=networkd-test.py --shell -U
--apt-pocket=proposed=src:systemd,src:glibc -s -- lxd
autopkgtest/ubuntu/impish/armhf
  * It will fail and drop you into the shell
  * cd test/ && apt install python3-nose
  * nosetests3 -v -s -m "test_.*_dhcp_ip6" networkd-test.py

  This is unrelated to the recent dnsmasq changes (LP: #1894619), as that would
fail on all architectures, not just armhf.

  It still passes inside an amd64 LXD container, so it is also not related to
armhf being tested inside a container. But it shows the difference between
armhf vs amd64 container, that on armhf we're missing the DHCPSOLICIT (and
therefore DHCPREPLY) messages, as can be seen from the dnsmasq log:
  dnsmasq-dhcp[]: DHCPSOLICIT(router_eth42)
00:02:00:00:ab:11:57:1e:20:2f:9e:56:5f:34
  dnsmasq-dhcp[]: DHCPREPLY(router_eth42) 2600::1f
00:02:00:00:ab:11:57:1e:20:2f:9e:56:5f:34 autopkgtest-lxd-rtypaf

  The issue is most probably the same that causes the currently failing
  netplan.io/ethernets autopkgtest on armhf, if tested against glibc
  2.34-0ubuntu1.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1941977] Re: PC streams music over low-quality HFP/SCO connection, instead of A2DP/AVDTP

2021-08-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please test Ubuntu 21.10 where many of these issues are now fixed and
tell us if the issue persists:

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1838151
   Poor quality audio with modern Bluetooth headsets in HSP/HFP. Missing wide
band speech support (Bluetooth A2DP codecs).

** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu)

Title:
  PC streams music over low-quality HFP/SCO connection, instead of
  A2DP/AVDTP

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  This issue was first discovered when I got this headset 2 years back:
  https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01C2QCPYI.

  STEPS
  * Enable Bluetooth on the PC
  * Have music or some video playing on the PC
  * Power on the (already-paired) headset. It automatically connects to the PC.

  EXPECTED RESULT
  The PC's audio should now be streamed to the headset, over high-quality A2DP

  ACTUAL RESULT
  The PC's audio gets streamed over the low-quality HFP/SCO connection instead.

  Stopping and resuming the stream changes nothing. I have to manually
  open Blueman and right-click on the device and select "High-quality
  A2DP profile", for it to switch to the expected high-quality A2DP
  transport.

  HCI snoop logs and verbose bluetoothd-syslogs taken in both headset-
  initiated and PC-initiated connections are attached.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1941977] Re: PC streams music over low-quality HFP/SCO connection, instead of A2DP/AVDTP

2021-08-29 Thread Brian Ejike
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1838151 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1838151

Hi Daniel, thanks for responding. This isn't a duplicate of that issue
-- that ticket complains of the current NB/8k default which is pretty
low-quality, now requesting that the stack support WBS/16k for higher
quality voice.

OTOH, this one is about audio getting streamed over a different
transport (SCO) entirely than expected (AVDTP), as explained above.

  This issue was first discovered when I got this headset 2 years back:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1941977] Re: PC streams music over low-quality HFP/SCO connection, instead of A2DP/AVDTP

Title:
  PC streams music over low-quality HFP/SCO connection, instead of
  A2DP/AVDTP

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  New

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1928393] Re: linux-firmware 1.197 causes kernel to report error "amdgpu: [gfxhub0] retry page fault"

2021-08-29 Thread I-Cat
It is the Blue-Tooth Driver.
I Got This Too on my
Acer Aspire F5-573 series "Laptop"
There is a sticker that says "Intel i-5 core" Know amd is a possablity ?
I Do not think My Processor Is an amd?
Also It set my Screen Res to like 1377x768 (Its a 6k screen) 17" screen
When I was On Windows "Yes I had to switch off Windows Because my Windows 11 os
failed"
It was installed When I installed viurtalbox or kodi.
It is like a nightmare.
I lost function of my usb 1.0 driver.
It installs a pnp driver that do not exsist.
The pnp Driver is a printer driver that is pointing to your desktop.

I Think This Is a Virus That is effecting other systems like My Self.
Thanks -- I-Cat

  I'll attach a couple of full dmesgs that I collected.

  Many of the times when this happens, the screen and keyboard freeze
  irreversibly (I tried waiting for more than 30 minutes, but it doesn't
  help). I can still log in via ssh though. When there's no freeze, I
  can continue using the computer normally, but the laptop fans keep
  running are always running and the battery depletes fast. There's
  probably something on a permanent loop either in the kernel or in the
  GPU.

  This bug happens several times a day, rendering the machine so
  unstable as to be almost unusable. It is a severe regression and I'm
  aghast that it passed AMD's Quality Assurance.

  After downgrading back to linux-firmware 1.190.5, the machine is back
  to the previous, mostly-reliable state. Which is to say, this bug is
  gone, I'm just left with the other amdgpu suspend bug I've learned to
  live with since I bought this computer.

  Please revert the amdgpu firmware in this package as soon as possible.
  This is unbearable.

Bug description:
  With the machines I help administer, we have been finding situations
  where the /boot directory is filling-up beyond 3 kernels on LUKS
  encrypted systems. apt autoremove is not removing old kernels as
  expected.

  This may also be an issue with unattended-upgrades since I found the
  following line commented-out by default:

  // Remove unused automatically installed kernel-related packages
  // (kernel images, kernel headers and kernel version locked tools).
  // Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-Unused-Kernel-Packages "true";

  We have had a system with as many as 15 kernel packages installed as a
  result of this not working as expected.

  The majority of these machines are using Discover to do their package
  upgrading, which uses PackageKit as its backend.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1927255] Re: [USB-Audio - RODECaster Pro, playback] Sound is distorted (20.04)

2021-08-29 Thread Alexander List
I can confirm this problem on Ubuntu 21.04 (hirsute) running on a Dell
XPS 13 7390 2-in-1

Title:
  [USB-Audio - RODECaster Pro, playback] Sound is distorted (20.04)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I got a Rodecaster Pro USB device that has been causing trouble before
  and already lead to quirk handling in the kernel for the sample rate,
  see

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/tree/sound/usb/format.c?h=v5.8#n412

  The Rodecaster is running fine on my laptop, but on my desktop, only
  audio input is working. The audio output is distorted. It's played
  kind of very slowly. Interestingly, if the source is a video file, the
  video plays slower, e.g. YouTube in a browser. I have never seen
  anything like that before.

  I have tried to figure out what the cause might be and I think I have
  reached the end of where I can get to on my own. I have documented
  most things at https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2461568

  Putting my last step it in a nutshell: I have booted both my computers
  with a plain Ubuntu 21.04 from a pen drive (it uses kernel version
  5.11.0-16-generic) to make sure it's not some different configuration
  that I have set up over the years on my systems (both Ubuntu 20.04
  with kernel 5.8.18). I attached the Rodecaster. It runs fine on my
  laptop, but not on my desktop (used the output test from).

  I then detected the card number with

  aplay -l

  I killed pulseaudio with

  pulseaudio -k

  I then played the same sample (encoded in 48000 Hz in PCM signed 32
  bit little endian format) using

  aplay -f S32_LE -c 2 -r 48000 -D hw:x ~/sample.wav

  where x is the appropriate card number and the rest of the arguments
  meet the Rodecaster's narrow specification. It's playing fine on the
  laptop, but distorted on the desktop. As far as I understand using
  aplay this way without a plugin should send the file directly to the
  device, so I assume there's something on the way from aplay to the
  Rodecaster that's interfering (kernel or even some piece of hardware)
  - and that definitely is where my expertise ends (rather a little
  before :-)).

  I'll gladly contribute any information that could be useful and I will
  willingly help to debug this problem if it may be related to the
  kernel. If there's anything I can do, please let me know.

  Cheers,
  Oliver

Bug description:
  Since the recent security update of exiv2, Gwenview crashes when
  trying to open image files that got exported by darktable.

  Steps to reproduce:

  * Make a test installation of Kubuntu 21.04 in VirtualBox
  * Install all updates
  * Install darktable
  * Copy one of the images in /usr/share/wallpapers (or any other image) to
your home directory and open it with darktable
  * Within darktable, export a copy of the image (no need to do any actual
modifications)
  * Try to open that copy with Gwenview. Gwenview will crash.

  I'm attaching a crash report hinting that this is related to exiv2.

  Temporary workaround:
  If I downgrade libexiv2-27 to 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.4, Gwenview doesn't crash, so
it seems the crash is related to changes in 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.5.

  I don't know if the underlying cause is actually some bug in exiv2,
  Gwenview or darktable.

  Kind regards, Jan

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1940635] Re: systemd-networkd failing to acquire a DHCP6 lease from dnsmasq on armhf

2021-08-29 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
I filed a bug in systemd (although I'm not really sure it's systemd's
bug) https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/20564 and uploaded a
simple workaround (in systemd) that passed systemd armhf autopkgtests in
my PPA. Fingers crossed!

We should come back and review this fix after glibc has migrated, but I
wanted to get something done asap and it doesn't seem overly harmful.

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  systemd-networkd is failing to acquire a DCHP6 lease from dnsmasq on
  armhf since glibc 2.34-0ubuntu1, failing systemd (tests-name=networkd-
  test.py) and netplan.io (test-name=ethernets) tests on armhf.

  Reproducer:
  * Setup an armhf container, e.g. via:
  autopkgtest systemd --test-name=networkd-test.py --shell -U
--apt-pocket=proposed=src:systemd,src:glibc -s -- lxd
autopkgtest/ubuntu/impish/armhf
  * It will fail and drop you into the shell
  * cd test/ && apt install python3-nose
  * nosetests3 -v -s -m "test_.*_dhcp_ip6" networkd-test.py

00:02:00:00:ab:11:57:1e:20:2f:9e:56:5f:34
  dnsmasq-dhcp[]: DHCPREPLY(router_eth42) 2600::1f
00:02:00:00:ab:11:57:1e:20:2f:9e:56:5f:34 autopkgtest-lxd-rtypaf

  The issue is most probably the same that causes the currently failing
  netplan.io/ethernets autopkgtest on armhf, if tested against glibc
  2.34-0ubuntu1.

  2. Login as a normal user from keyboard.

  3. Login as the same user as 2 from XDMCP gives
  "Could not acquire name on session bus"

  Without Step 2, XDMCP login succeeds.

  The same symptom is reported at
  https://github.com/neutrinolabs/xrdp/issues/1559#issuecomment-623977001
  which recommends removal of "dbus-user-session" Ubuntu package.

  I worked around the above issue by putting

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1928488] Re: Receiving error for /var/cache/apt/archives/fonts-noto-cjk compressed data is corrupt

2021-08-29 Thread Trejkaz
Same issue, different Ubuntu version, different archive.

Release: 18.04
apt:
  Installed: 1.6.14

My error:
```
Unpacking libpython3.6-dev:amd64 (3.6.9-1~18.04ubuntu1.4) over
(3.6.9-1~18.04ubuntu1.3) ...
'/usr/lib/python3.6/config-3.6m-x86_64-linux-gnu/libpython3.6m-pic.a.dpkg-new':
unexpected end of file or stream
```

I diagnosed the issue as best I could:
- apt caches files in /var/cache/apt/archives
- I found the file libpython3.6-dev_3.6.9-1~18.04ubuntu1.4_amd64.deb
- On deleting this file, running the command again worked.

Therefore the bug in my case was clearly:
- apt downloaded a corrupt file
- apt did not verify that the file's checksum was correct
- apt proceeded to cache the file despite the checksum being incorrect
- the cached file is now on my system and apt refuses to redownload it
- therefore it is impossible to get it to work without user intervention, in
this case by manually deleting the cached file

Suggested fix:
- verify that file checksums are correct BEFORE inserting the file into the
cache
- if that is for some reason impossible (for instance if apt does not checksum
files - which seems completely ludicrous to me from a security standpoint but I
insert it here just in case), at least verify that the archive can be opened,
before inserting into the cache
- ideally, if a file found in the cache cannot be uncompressed, delete it from
the cache and fetch it again.
