[Touch-packages] [Bug 1756238] Re: gdebi-gtk broken in 18.04 error: unable to read filedescriptor flags

2021-10-16 Thread Mathew Hodson
I think it makes more sense to use bug 1946499 to track the issue
happening in Ubuntu 21.10. The patches in this bug landed two years ago,
so it would be confusing to reopen it.

  [Impact]

Both HiFive Unleashed and HiFive Unmatched bootloaders seek for the same

UUIDs to load the next stage bootloader: the current name makes partitions

on Unmatched board appear as 'Unleashed'.

This issue gives the feeling that the Ubuntu RISC-V images made specifically

for those 2 boards were assembled in a rushed manner.

The attached patch fixes this by removing the 'Unleashed' part of the current

name so that it fits both, it was build againt all architectures here:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1002952] Re: [meta-bug] Invalid extra "Digital output S/PDIF" device for USB cards

2021-10-16 Thread André Gomes
The workaround is still valid. I just tested with my "Plantronics
Blackwire 5220 Seri"

Title:
[meta-bug] Invalid extra "Digital output S/PDIF" device for USB cards

Status in alsa-lib package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  === Read me first ===

  = Symptom =

If you have a USB headset, or other USB device that does not have any
S/PDIF output, but yet sometimes there is an extra device called
"Digital Output (S/PDIF)" for that device, you're suffering from this
  bug.

This bug is only for USB devices - if you have an invalid digital
output for some other type of device, please file a separate bug
  instead.

  = Workaround =

If you're affected, please try this workaround:

first check the output of "aplay -l" (lowercase L), or "arecord -l" if
it's an input device, and grab the first of two name in brackets:

  Example:
card 3: Headset [Sennheiser USB Headset], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
here grab the name "Sennheiser USB Headset". Now edit the file
/usr/share/alsa/cards/USB-Audio.conf (requires root permissions)
Around line 40, you will find a line saying "Logitech USB Headset" 999
Add a new line after this line, so that there is now a new line called
  "Sennheiser USB Headset" 999
(including quotes, and replace "Sennheiser USB Headset" with whatever your
particular card was named.)

Save the file and reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.

  = Already known devices =

These card names are already in 12.04:

  "Blue Snowball"
  "Logitech USB Headset"
  "Logitech Web Camera"

These card names are on their way into 12.04:

  "Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700"
  "Logitech Wireless Headset"
  "Plantronics USB Headset"
  "Sennheiser USB headset"

If you have one of the above four, please help out by testing the
proposed repository and report back in bug 987163.

If your name is not listed above, please add a comment to this bug,
  including your alsa-info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo -
they will be collected for a SRU later on, or at least make it into
  the next release of Ubuntu.

  Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1947452] [NEW] Please remove maliit from Ubuntu

2021-10-16 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Please remove maliit-framework & maliit-inputcontext-gtk from Ubuntu.

They have no reverse dependencies.

https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/maliit-framework was uploaded to Debian
experimental once but was removed.

I think the packages were added as part of the Unity 8 project and
aren't actively maintained in Ubuntu since Canonical stopped work there.

Bug description:
This happened on an computer that was installed many years ago, and upgraded
on each LTS version.
When upgrading from 14.04 to 16.04.1, it started telling me that something
wrong happened with sysv-rc, then that there were some "initscripts dependency
problems" making it "leaving unconfigured".
Then many packages were reported as incorrectly setup : procps, udev,
initramfs, keyboard-configuration, console-setup, plymouth, cups, upower,
gnome-session, gnome-shell, udisk, gvfs, software-center, mountall, upstart,
etc.

After reading the log files, I found out that this was caused by insserv,
reporting "insserv rejected the script header", coming from package
virtuoso-nepomuk having an incorrect header in /etc/init.d : "missing end of
LSB comment", "missing LSB tags and overrides".
  This package http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/database/virtuoso-nepomuk was
existing on 12.04, but was removed afterwards.
The latest version 6.1.4+dfsg1-0ubuntu1 indeed contains an incorrect header
in /etc/init.d/virtuoso-nepomuk.

I managed to solve the issue by adding the "END INIT INFO" in this
  file, like below :

  #! /bin/sh
  #
  # virtuoso OpenLink Virtuoso Open-Source Edition
  #
  # Written by OpenLink Virtuoso Maintainer
  #
  #
  # Version: @(#)virtuoso 6.1.4 25-Mar-2011
vos.ad...@openlinksw.com
  #

  ### BEGIN INIT INFO
  # Provides: virtuoso
  # Required-Start: $syslog
  # Required-Stop:$syslog
  # Default-Start:2 3 4 5
  # Default-Stop: 0 1 6
  # Short-Description:Start Virtuoso database server on startup
  # Description: Start and stop the primary instance of Virtuoso
running
  # in /var/lib/virtuoso/db/. The first time this runs, it loads the
  # Conductor administrative package.
  ### END INIT INFO

Then a "sudo apt-get upgrade" allowed me to finish the installation
  successfully.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1927337] Re: [USB-Audio - RODECaster Pro, playback] Sound is distorted (21.04)

2021-10-16 Thread Oliver Tacke
I have now built in a separate PCIe board with USB ports that do not
rely on AMD chipsets. The RODECaster Pro now works perfectly. So this
seems to be in fact something out of the audio driver's responsibility
(?) and needs to be fixed somewhere else?

It' sad that I lost one port, but at least there's a new trace to where
the cause might be. Hopefully, this can be fixed in software, too.

Title:
[USB-Audio - RODECaster Pro, playback] Sound is distorted (21.04)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I got a Rodecaster Pro USB device that has been causing trouble before
and already lead to quirk handling in the kernel for the sample rate,
  see

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/tree/sound/usb/format.c?h=v5.8#n412

The Rodecaster is running fine on my laptop, but on my desktop, only
audio input is working. The audio output is distorted. It's played
kind of very slowly. Interestingly, if the source is a video file, the
video plays slower, e.g. YouTube in a browser. I have never seen
  anything like that before.

I have tried to figure out what the cause might be and I think I have
reached the end of where I can get to on my own. I have documented
  most things at https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2461568

Putting my last step it in a nutshell: I have booted both my computers
with a plain Ubuntu 21.04 from a pen drive (it uses kernel version
5.11.0-16-generic) to make sure it's not some different configuration
that I have set up over the years on my systems (both Ubuntu 20.04
with kernel 5.8.18). I attached the Rodecaster. It runs fine on my
laptop, but not on my desktop (used the output test from).

I then detected the card number with

  aplay -l

  I killed pulseaudio with

  pulseaudio -k

I then played the same sample (encoded in 48000 Hz in PCM signed 32
  bit little endian format) using

  aplay -f S32_LE -c 2 -r 48000 -D hw:x ~/sample.wav

where x is the appropriate card number and the rest of the arguments
meet the Rodecaster's narrow specification. It's playing fine on the
laptop, but distorted on the desktop. As far as I understand using
aplay this way without a plugin should send the file directly to the
device, so I assume there's something on the way from aplay to the
Rodecaster that's interfering (kernel or even some piece of hardware)
  - and that definitely is where my expertise ends (rather a little
  before :-)).

I'll gladly contribute any information that could be useful and I will
willingly help to debug this problem if it may be related to the
kernel. If there's anything I can do, please let me know.

  Cheers,
  Oliver
