Title:
[nvidia] Screen scaling reset every reboot

Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I set in settings scaling for my 2560x1600 laptop screen. After reboot
this settings reset every time. And I can't set custom scale factor. I
used for this functionality simple script:

  # Enable rotation lock to avoid issues with xrandr.
  gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.touchscreen
orientation-lock true

  # Xrandr scaling hack, --panning is used in order to let
  # the mouse navigate in all of the 'generated'
  # screen space.
  xrandr --output DP-4 --mode 2560x1600 --scale 1.333x1.333 --panning 3413x2133

  # Change scaling factor (GNOME)
  gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface scaling-factor 2

  # Confirm script execution
  echo "Script finished execution"

  It working fine.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1957816] Re: Wayland dual monitor switch from 30Hz to 60Hz: High pitch audio double playback speed

2022-01-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please try editing /etc/pulse/daemon.conf and change:

  ; default-sample-rate=44100

to

  default-sample-rate=48000

and then reboot.

Title:
Wayland dual monitor switch from 30Hz to 60Hz: High pitch audio double
  playback speed

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have a desktop computer with a 60Hz 4K display connected through Display
Port. The display is a ThinkVision X1 with built in audio. With the Display
Port cable I am then able to output sound from the monitor and this works
without any issues.
I have now added a 4K Samsung television through HDMI to the same GPU, which
also allows me to do 4K at 60Hz, albeit only with Wayland. In Xorg I can only
do 30Hz on the television while doing 60Hz on the ThinkVision X1. It is clear
however, that when it is set to 60Hz in Wayland, the animation on the
television is much more smooth.

The problem is that whenever I set the television to 60Hz, the playback of
any sound is both high pitched and faster than normal. If I play a video in
YouTube, the video appears to playback about twice as fast as normal and and
very high pitched sound (everyone sounds like chipmunks). This is the case on
the entire system (also when playing the video or any other sounds on the X1
display at 60Hz). Only if I set the refresh rate, on the television, to 30Hz
again does everything play and sound normal again.
It is only the playback of media that is doubled in speed. Everything else
(animations, mouse, etc.) is still behaving as normal.

If I change audio output to the ThinkVision X1 (or something else) at
60Hz while also being connected to the television at 60Hz, the audio
stays high pitched and sped up.

If I unplug the main display, ThinkVision X1, then the playback of
media on the television becomes normal.

I have tried with different +100 USD HDMI cables, that are all rated
as HDMI 2.0 and the behavior stays the same.

My system is Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. I tried in a LiveUSB 21.10, but the
  behavior was the same.

I have an AMD Radeon VII GPU (Has 3x Display Port and 1x HDMI).

As mentioned I cannot test it in Xorg, but that is only because it
does not allow me to set the refresh rate to 60Hz.

I am uncertain whether this is related to MESA, Pulseaudio or maybe
  Mutter/Wayland?

Title:
  gdebi-gtk calls pkexec inappropriately

Status in gdebi:
  Confirmed
Status in gdebi package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Have Ubuntu with gdebi-gtk installed
  2. Open Firefox
  3. Visit some site with deb-package download link or use direct link like
https://github.com/jgm/pandoc/releases/download/2.9.2.1/pandoc-2.9.2.1-1-amd64.deb
  4. Proceed with file downloading
  5. In Firefox select Library → Downloads, click on downloaded deb-file

  Expected results:
  * gdebi-gtk is opened, the package installs normally after users clicks
Install button

  Actual results:
  * gdebi-gtk is opened, the package is not installed because of vanishing of
gdebi-gtk window just after clicking Install button

Before anyone says this bug already exists... it doesn't (at least as
far as I can see). It's just that a lot of similar bugs do/did exist
where people have also experienced the same symptoms (of gdebi-gtk
  vanishing upon clicking 'Install').

So yes this is the same symptoms, but it must be a different cause as
the circumstances are different and doesn't have the same resolution.

  The meat of it...

Basically on a fresh install of Ubuntu MATE 18.04.3 amd64... with Firefox (or
with Chrome if you installed that) go to any site that offers a .deb package
and either...
  a) choose to open it directly from the browser (rather than saving it to
'Downloads' folder)
  b) or... save the file (e.g. to the 'Downloads' folder), BUT!.. open that
file from within the browser itself.

You should find that gdebi-gtk appears but vanishes the moment you
click 'Install' without a prompt for a password, an explanation or the
  package actually getting installed.

This bug has existed since the beginning of Ubuntu 18.04 however it's
been largely confused with other similar bugs. I've had it on half a
dozen machines and confirmed it exists with IRC users on #ubuntu-mate
  of freenode.

However with *this* bug (compared to others) gdebi-gtk works perfectly
fine if you run it from the terminal or just double click the .deb
  package from your file manager.

It's the kind of bug which if you're a hardened desktop Linux user,
  you'd just work around it...

But if you're a novice and you can't get a simple thing like
Teamviewer installed (which is a .deb, and a thing I might ask someone
to do over the phone to try to help them) you likely get fed up and
  re-install Windows :S

Any input on this would be brilliant as I can't seem to get any
  logs/output.

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/fontconfig/fontconfig/-/commit/fcb042028126d79ea5a5fa015b2b034b98656e73

  Rationale:

DejaVu font extends the Bitstream Vera font, and is already installed
by default. Besides, the Bitstream Vera font is very obsolete, looks
worse than DejaVu and sometimes as a negative side effect it takes
over as a default font when installed (without DejaVu).

After applying the upstream fix, this Ubuntu patch becomes obsolete
(03_prefer_dejavu.patch):

https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fontconfig/tree/debian/patches/03_prefer_dejavu.patch

You may also think about updating the whole package to an up-to-date
snapshot, since the last Debian/Ubuntu version update was in 2018.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1854588] Re: gdebi-gtk calls pkexec inappropriately

2022-01-16 Thread Doug Brown
I have no idea what I'm doing here in terms of submission processes, but
I attempted to submit a patch for this issue:

https://code.launchpad.net/~macg3/ubuntu/+source/gdebi/+git/gdebi/+merge/414211

I suspect I may have done something wrong in the submission process
because "git-ubuntu import" is listed as the code reviewer. It was
really confusing because there was also a bzr project for this package
that is outdated, and it appears it has been moved to Git. Anyway, this
patch fixes the issue by adding a separate python script that acts as
the parent process for pkexec. Special thanks to Alkis Georgopoulos for
all of the info provided above.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1958019] Re: [82N6, Realtek ALC287, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2022-01-16 Thread Przemek K.
I have the same issue.
I have a Legion 7 16ACHg6 which I'm testing under Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS and 21.10
LiveUSB, and in both of them there is no sound out of the built-in speakers.
Headphones are working fine though.
05:00.6 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Family 17h (Models
10h-1fh) HD Audio Controller
hwinfo shows that there is a "Realtek ALC701" chip in this laptop.
Full hwinfo output attached.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1958060] Re: bash returns wrong variable value/call more proccesses?

2022-01-16 Thread Dark Archangel
up.
String without shebang returns 0 for pgrep -c $0 or 1 for ps aux | grep -c $0.
Solved with help of user Valrust from forum.ubuntu.ru, it's standart behavior
of the system.
In that case new copy of script runs as "bash" without agruments and try to
find /address/name.sh in ps aux returns nothing, but pgrep -c bash returns more
and more values depends from run copies.

  sleep 10

  Expected
In any conditions it will return same values, then will increments when other
copies of script will be found in proccesses list.

  Happened.
We set interpretator with #!/bin/bash or #!/bin/sh in first string of script
and runs multiple copies of script from one terminal with & after scriptname.
It's returns "1" and "variable is 1" always.
Without interpretator setup, when string #!/bin/bash or #!/bin/sh deleted.
  Run multiple copies scriptname.sh&
On every iteration it returns right first value and "variable is $value+1"

  $scriptname.sh&

Without counting in first case it returns only string with grep, in

  called from i=$(...) or i=`...`

systemd autopkgtest failures on jammy 5.15 due to cgroup v2 ABI change

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I'm getting the following errors when running systemd autopkgtest on
the latest Jammy 5.15 Ubuntu kernel:

Received SIGCHLD from PID 2674 (sh).
  Child 2674 (sh) died (code=killed, status=13/PIPE)

  exec-ioschedulingclass-none.service: Changed dead -> start

  FAIL: test-execute

The fact that is failing to read memory.events makes me think that the
expected cgroup wasn't created correctly. I don't see any potential
ABI change in the kernel. I need to investigate more.
