[Touch-packages] [Bug 1999220] [NEW] libQt5Core.so.5 incompatible with older kernels (<3.15)
Public bug reported: When running programs that use libQt5Core.so.5 on pre-3.15 kernels (e.g. from a container) one gets error while loading shared libraries: libQt5Core.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory A workaround (from https://github.com/dnschneid/crouton/wiki/Fix-error- while-loading-shared-libraries:-libQt5Core.so.5): sudo strip --remove-section=.note.ABI-tag /usr/lib64/libQt5Core.so.5 At least 20.04 and 22.04 are affected. I guess, something can be changed in the way the library compiles to make it more portable. ** Affects: qtbase-opensource-src (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to qtbase-opensource-src in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1999220 Title: libQt5Core.so.5 incompatible with older kernels (<3.15) Status in qtbase-opensource-src package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When running programs that use libQt5Core.so.5 on pre-3.15 kernels (e.g. from a container) one gets error while loading shared libraries: libQt5Core.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory A workaround (from https://github.com/dnschneid/crouton/wiki/Fix- error-while-loading-shared-libraries:-libQt5Core.so.5): sudo strip --remove-section=.note.ABI-tag /usr/lib64/libQt5Core.so.5 At least 20.04 and 22.04 are affected. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1959054] Re: debhelper restarts services marked --no-restart-on-upgrade
Note related bug if a package were to use debhelper-compat 10 vs 9 on focal. In Focal, debhelper-compat 10 will incorrectly introduce ignore the params dh_systemd_start --no-restart-on-upgrade --no-start And will still inject which will restart all services across package upgrade with something like the following pseudo script: deb-systemd-invoke try-restart Moral of the story, don't shift your debian/compat version on stable releases or bad things could happen. See: LP: #1999159 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to debconf in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1959054 Title: debhelper restarts services marked --no-restart-on-upgrade Status in debconf package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in debhelper package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in docker.io package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in libvirt package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in debconf source package in Jammy: Fix Released Status in debhelper source package in Jammy: Fix Released Status in docker.io source package in Jammy: Fix Released Status in libvirt source package in Jammy: Fix Released Status in debconf package in Debian: Fix Released Status in debhelper package in Debian: Fix Released Bug description: Debian bug #994204 (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=994204) describes a flaw in debhelper that results in the postinst being generated in such a fashion that services marked --no-stop-on-upgrade (or its deprecated alias --no- restart-on-upgrade), restart anyway. Please note: this is nothing to do with the --no-restart-after-upgrade flag (which is, somewhat confusingly IMO, unrelated). I've confirmed that the flaw appears to be present in the jammy version of debhelper (though not impish) and that packages generated with it appear to contain the flawed postinst (I first encountered this whilst working on the open-iscsi merge), though I haven't yet managed to test that the flaw exhibits itself on upgrade (though I'd say from the presence of the flaw in the postinst, that it's a reasonable inference that it will). In dbus (the merge of which I'm currently working on), Debian has worked around this but given I've now run into two affected packages (open-iscsi and dbus), only one of which has a work-around, I'd much rather we got debhelper fixed up and rebuilt affected packages? While I am a relatively new user to Ubuntu I am quite willing to help provide further information for de-bugging purposes. Please note that I had the same issue in 14.04 even after installing the FGLRX drivers. I appreciate any help that can be provided. [Expired for xorg (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1634017 Title: usb mouse and keyboard freeze after login Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Hello, I have a usb logitech wireless mouse and keyboard connected via an aten usb switchbox to my computers (desktop and laptop). With release 14.04 I did not have any issues. I have now upgraded my desktop to 16.04 and did a clean install on my laptop with 16.04. Now I have the following phenomena: Mouse and Keyboard are working fine when I have the login screen. However after login in my desktop (gnome) comes up and my mouse pointer is shortly (1s) disappearing and reappears. Then I have an approximately 2min freeze time for mouse and keyboard (meaning no response to the usb mouse and keyboard). After that everything is working fine. On my laptop there is no interruption using my internal touchpad and keyboard. This happens on both computers. Switching back and forth is seamless unless the period from switching from one computer to the other takes to long (can not specify the exact time here maybe 1 hour). Then I have the above phenomenon. I have already asked the question and checked the ubuntuforum with no success. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1999207] [NEW] Error in dead key management of latin keyboards
Public bug reported: Composition events are incorrect in Ubuntu 22.04 for latin keyboard I opened an issue at Firefox [here](https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1802989) that gives all the details, but they diagnosed a bug in ubuntu-ibus To reproduce the issue, you can go [here](https://developer.mozilla.org/en- US/docs/Web/API/Element/compositionstart_event#result) and type ^+u with a fr+latin9 keayboard configuration. Here is the conclusion on the bug report: Ubuntu-ibus commits dead key sequence with empty string first, then, sends only commit string without "composing" state. The latter behavior is a usual case for inputting non-ASCII characters like Emojis. In this case, browsers need to handle it without composition for compatibility between browsers. Therefore, we cannot represent the composed character insertion as a set of composition events. Anyway, dispatching 2 set of composition events for one dead key sequence may cause trouble in web apps. Therefore, as expected, the first composition should update the "preedit string" to the composed string and commit it simply. The bug was reproduced with installing Ubuntu 22.04 with English locale and adding "French (alt., Latin-9 only)" keyboard layout. And also reproduced with the other Western keyboard layouts which have dead keys. ** Affects: ibus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ibus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1999207 Title: Error in dead key management of latin keyboards Status in ibus package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Composition events are incorrect in Ubuntu 22.04 for latin keyboard I opened an issue at Firefox [here](https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1802989) that gives all the details, but they diagnosed a bug in ubuntu-ibus To reproduce the issue, you can go [here](https://developer.mozilla.org/en- US/docs/Web/API/Element/compositionstart_event#result) and type ^+u with a fr+latin9 keayboard configuration. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1999155] Re: UFW Disabled by default
We've decided that it's better for the tools to be available but not try to provide a default configuration -> then why isn't gufw (gtk gui for ufw) isn't installed by default for ubuntu desktop? Plasma 5 has a gui for the firewall inside the system settings. Since Ubuntu has altered the gnome-settings to add the ubuntu-settings portion (mainly to tweak the dock) why doesn't ubuntu with gnome have a similar tool for the desktop? Either making use of ufw or putting a way on the settings to add incoming and outgoing rules through a gui. Heck, even linux mint comes with gufw installed by default. As for the security and usability aspect, doing sudo ufw enable hasn't done anything to prevent me from working or doing my tasks on my machines. And rejecting incoming requests hasn't done it either so makes little to no sense for me that the firewall is disabled by default or not enabled with rejecting rule for incoming On the server side, I've got little to none outgoing rules and full reject for incoming for security reasons, and it has been a smooth experience. Perhaps that decision is a bit outdated? The FAQ page sent by you was last edited on 28-10-2022, but doesn't allow to see when the ufw part was last modified, but I suppose it was a long time ago. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ufw in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1999155 Title: UFW Disabled by default Status in ufw package in Ubuntu: Opinion Bug description: UFW or iptables is disabled by default on both ubuntu server and desktop, which poses a major security risk as ports that shouldn't be open, are open by default, specially for incoming connections. If UFW breaks working apps on Ubuntu server and desktop, at least make it enabled by default but reject all incoming connections. Malware and exploits are out in the open, and no one in their sane mind would a Firewall suit disabled on Linux or Windows. It has nothing to do with MIT or GSSAPI, and should be in libsasl2-modules. Normally this would just be an annoyance, but it just so happens that this also prevents to have the SCRAM mechanism coexist with the GSSAPI Heimdal one, because libsasl2-modules-gssapi-{mit,heimdal} conflict with each other. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1999155] Re: UFW Disabled by default
Hello Pedro, thanks for the report; this was an explicit decision: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/FAQ#UFW Making firewall rules that are tight enough to stop threats yet open enough for the computer to still be useful in a wide variety of environments is very challenging. We've decided that it's better for the tools to be available but not try to provide a default configuration. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1915910] Re: evince does not print (apparmor, pxgsettings)
Hi all, I'm reviewing this SRU, and was trying to reproduce the issue following the given test case, but no matter what I try, it just works. I installed cinnamon 22.10 from the ISO image into a VM, and added a remote network printer (not wifi, though: wired ethernet). I monitored dmesg, and launched evince from a terminal so I could spot errors there, but it printed to that remote printer just fine, directly to it. I also tested installing ubuntu jammy 22.04, then the cinnamon desktop, and it also printed find, but there was some problem with the driver and the printed page just said "Unsupported Personality: UNKNOWN". In any case, it feels like we need to narrow this case down a bit further. I therefore ask all who are affected, what else could it be that is triggering the apparmor error on your end? What would make pxgsettings be called by evince? Something in particular to the PDF file that is being printed? Perhaps an image? Or a font? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to libproxy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1915910 Title: evince does not print (apparmor, pxgsettings) Status in evince package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in libproxy package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in evince package in Debian: New Bug description: * Impact Evince hangs when opening the printing dialog for some users with a remote printer configured and connected * Test case - configure a remote printer and turn it on - open a pdf - try to print the document the print dialog shouldn't freeze the viewer * What could go wrong The change is only allowing access to one extra system binary from the apparmor profile so shouldn't really have an impact on the software behaviour. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1999171] [NEW] tparm dynamic variables broken
Public bug reported: I use the Python curses library for convenience, but this seems to be an ncurses bug as Python simply wraps the ncurses library. As you can see from example below, the dynamic variable x gets stored as 4, but, when it's recalled, 0 is returned instead of 4. This was on 22.04 and 20.04 with libncurses6 6.3-2. I've confirm the behavior is correct on Fedora 36 with ncurses- libs-6.2-9.20210508. I apologize I haven't been able to narrow it down farther, but figured it would be good to get a bug logged in case someone has more insight. ``` Python 3.10.6 (main, Nov 2 2022, 18:53:38) [GCC 11.3.0] on linux Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> import curses >>> curses.setupterm() >>> curses.tparm(b'%p1%Px', 4) b'' >>> curses.tparm(b'%gx%d') b'0' ``` ** Affects: ncurses (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ncurses in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1999171 Title: tparm dynamic variables broken Status in ncurses package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I use the Python curses library for convenience, but this seems to be an ncurses bug as Python simply wraps the ncurses library. This was first seen on mcrouter, but attached is a small reproducer where `main_unwind` will crash. The libunwind shipping with 22.04 doesn't appear to have this problem, nor do unmodified upstream versions (including the 1.2.1 which is the 18.04 and 20.04 version). Attached is a small reproducer that demonstrates the problem. Since Jammy, iptables uses the new nft libraries which are not affected by the bug. For Bionic and Focal users, the regular iptables command is affected by the change. As stated in the manpage : E, --rename-chain old-chain new-chain Rename the user specified chain to the user supplied name. This is cosmetic, and has no effect on the structure of the table. In case of a problem, only the modification of the name would be affected as this is clearly outlined as a cosmetic only change. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1556302] Re: Ubuntu patch to add HOME to env_keep makes custom commands vulnerable by default

As mentioned in comment 11 (and later, and other bugs duped to this, and the mailing list discussion, etc) users of Ubuntu so far have been used to running sudo with their own HOME set, not root's HOME. Therefore, it's inappropriate to change this behavior for existing releases; this should be changed starting in Eoan, and only the sudo and sudoers man pages changed in previous releases to indicate the actual behavior of sudo in those releases. [other info] Shortly after upstream changed the behavior, the patch to keep HOME as the calling (instead of target) user was added in bug 760140. For quick reference to anyone coming to this bug, the pre-19.10 behavior (of sudo keeping the calling user's $HOME) can be disabled by running 'sudo visudo' and adding this line: Defaultsalways_set_home or, run sudo with the -H param. -- original description: -- I wanted to allow certain users to execute a python script as another user, so I created the following sudoers config: Defaults env_reset source_user ALL=(target_user) NOPASSWD: /home/target_user/bin/script.py This results in a highly insecure Python environment because the source user can set HOME and override any Python package by putting files in $HOME/.local/lib/python*/site-packages/. This should be a safe configuration because the default behaviour (as specified in the man page) is that env_reset will replace HOME with the target user's home directory. The "env_reset" option even has special behaviour for bash which has its own potential environment vulnerabilities. However there is an Ubuntu-specific patch in the package (keep_home_by_default.patch) that makes sudo preserve HOME by default, which negates the correct behaviour of "env_reset". It should not be necessary to explicitly specify the "always_set_home" option in order to negate this patch. The patch should be removed and the default /etc/sudoers should explicitly add HOME to "env_keep" for the "allow admins to run any command as root" entries, to get the desired behaviour without creating security issues for other sudoers commands. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1999139] [NEW] Outdate version check for restart in libssl3.postinst
Public bug reported: Our version of libssl3.postinst compares the installed version to "1.1.1-1ubuntu2.1~18.04.2" (moreover the test is done twice) which is unlikely to be what we want nowadays. The version needs to be updated and since we have been carrying this as a delta from Debian, it would be a good idea to ensure the behaviour still matches what we currently want. ** Affects: openssl (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to openssl in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1999139 Title: Outdate version check for restart in libssl3.postinst Status in openssl package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Our version of libssl3.postinst compares the installed version to "1.1.1-1ubuntu2.1~18.04.2" (moreover the test is done twice) which is unlikely to be what we want nowadays. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1997124] Re: Netplan/Systemd/Cloud-init/Dbus Race
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users. ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1997124 Title: Netplan/Systemd/Cloud-init/Dbus Race Status in cloud-init: Triaged Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Cloud-init is seeing intermittent failures while running `netplan apply`, which appears to be caused by a missing resource at the time of call. The symptom in cloud-init logs looks like: Running ['netplan', 'apply'] resulted in stderr output: Failed to connect system bus: No such file or directory I think that this error[1] is likely caused by cloud-init running netplan apply too early in boot process (before dbus is active). Today I stumbled upon this error which was hit in MAAS[2]. We have also hit it intermittently during tests (we didn't have a reproducer). Realizing that this may not be a cloud-init error, but possibly a dependency bug between dbus/systemd we decided to file this bug for broader visibility to other projects. I will follow up this initial report with some comments from our discussion earlier.
