[Touch-packages] [Bug 1949340] Re: [upstream] Saving downloads or pages is difficult because of unfocused file chooser dialog

2022-09-07 Thread G.M.
In the end, both problems (SaveDialog focus & bad theming) were due to the use
of snap version of firefox. Installing the .deb from PPA resolved both :
https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2022/04/how-to-install-firefox-deb-apt-ubuntu-22-04

Why on earth Ubuntu decided to use snap?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 987578] Re: Evince is not allowed to use exo-open

2020-09-08 Thread G.M.
Hi,

This bug is back in Document Viewer/Evince(*) 3.36.7, at least under
Linux Mint 20 Ulyana.

Apparently, evince does not try to use exo-open anymore, but launches firefox
directly (or via a sh shell?!?!) :{
I get error: "sh: 1: exec: firefox: Operation not permitted"

I've tried the trick found here to modify /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince
but with not success.

I used (NOTE: I have absolutely no idea what "ixr" could mean, thus what I'm
doing...):
/usr/bin/firefox ixr, -> error about "option" x being in conflict
/usr/bin/firefox r,   -> does not work
/usr/bin/sh r,-> seems very dangerous & does not work

(*) Life would be a LOT easier for bug reporters if only one name would be used
for app, instead of one name in CLI (/usr/bin/evince) and another in GUI
(Document Viewer)...

  A red bar appears on top and says :
  "Unable to open external link"
  "Failed to execute child process "exo-open" (Permission denied)"

  I suppose this is due to a bad configuration of AppArmor.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1700944] [NEW] less display is broken when using option to show line numbers

Now, msot of the time, when I open a file, less displays the file

  missing or duplicate lines caused by a wrapped line with wide
  characters

Status in less package in Ubuntu:

Status in less source package in Xenial:

Status in less source package in Yakkety:

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  Currently less doesn't work correctly with UTF-8 encoded Japanese
  characters, wrapping the lines in an invalid manner, missing or
  duplicating them (see original description below for exact error
  cases). For locale like these it breaks the general workflow, making
  the tool unreliable.

  [Test Case]

  1. Open xterm.
  2. Set the geometory of xterm to 71x22.
  3. Open the attached lesstest.long_jap.txt with less (maybe you need
 environment variable LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8)
  4. Type "j", then you will see "003" at the top and only the first part of
 the wrapped line should be shown.
  5. Type "k", then you will see "001", "002" and "003" at the top.

  [Regression Potential]

  Rather low as the fix is present in the beta version of less for over
  5 months already, which seems to be enough time for general audience
  testing. But since the width tables are modified potentially this
  could lead to other similar breakages related to wide-character
  handling.

  [Original Description]

  When you scroll down text with "j" key and encounter a wrapped line
  with wide characters (such as UTF8-encoded Japanese characters),
  "less" seems to show the whole wrapped line at a single "j" key,
  causing the view scroll down by 2 lines at once. Strangely, if you
  type "k" to scroll up, it does that by only 1 line. As a result, there
  is a missing line that should have been shown.

  Even stranger stuff (i.e., duplicate lines) happens when you type "j"
  and "k" alternately when a wrapped line with wide characters is at the
  bottom of the view.

  # Steps to reproduce

  1. Open xterm.
  2. Set the geometory of xterm to 71x22.
  3. Open the attached lesstest.long_jap.txt with less (maybe you need
     environment variable LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8)
  4. Type "j", then you will see "003" at the top, and a long wrapped
     line with Japanese characters at the bottom.
  5. Type "k", then you will see "001" and "003" at the top. "002" is
     missing.

  # Expected behavior

  In step 4, only the first part of the wrapped line should be shown.

  In step 5, all "001", "002" and "003" should be shown.

  # Test Environment

  - Xubuntu 16.04 (Xenial) beta (in VirtualBox on Xubuntu 14.04)
  - less: 481-2.1
  - xterm: 322-1ubuntu1
  - Japanese environment (LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8)

  # Note

  - The same problem happens on xfce4-terminal (0.6.3-2ubuntu1)
  - lv (4.51-2.3build1) doesn't have such problem.
  - In "less" in Xubuntu 14.04 (version 458-2), this problem didn't
    exist.

  missing or duplicate lines caused by a wrapped line with wide
  characters

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1585957] [NEW] DPMS support removed?

2016-05-26 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

I have a script in which I used:
xset dpms standby 0 ; xset dpms suspend 0 ; xset dpms off 0

Today, when I run the script, I get:
$ xset dpms standby 0
xset:  unknown option standby
[...synopsis of available commands...]
$ xset dpms suspend 0
xset:  unknown option suspend

However, reading the synopsis that is output after the error, I read:
To control Energy Star (DPMS) features:
-dpms  Energy Star features off
+dpms  Energy Star features on
 dpms [standby [suspend [off]]]
  force standby
  force suspend
  force off
  force on
  (also implicitly enables DPMS features)
  a timeout value of zero disables the mode

So standby and suspend are suposed to exist...

There is either a bug in the code or in the doc!

I get the (same) error:
Connection failure: Connection refused
pa_context_connect() failed: Connection refused

Is the problem with my knowledge of pulseaudio, with pulseaudio's right
management, or am I just crazily stupid?

Title:
  "AO: [pulse] Init failed: Connection refused" with mplayer from cron

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Arrggg This is driving me craz

  Not sure this is the right place, but I can't find why pa refuses to
  play my sound

  I'm trying to play a sound every hour, so I added the following line to my
/etc/crontab:
  0 */1 * * *   user /home/user/Softs/alarm.sh

  My alarm.sh script is:
  #!/usr/bin/env bash
  export DISPLAY=:0
  export XAUTHORITY=/home/user/.Xauthority
  /usr/bin/mplayer -ao pulse -vo null /home/user/.sounds/alarm_clock_short.ogg

  When I redirect the output of mplayer, I get:
  AO: [pulse] Init failed: Connection refused
  Failed to initialize audio driver 'pulse'

  I don't understand why, since cron is supposed to run the command as
  "user".

  I've tried millions of things:
  $ env -i
  $ /home/user/Softs/alarm.sh
  => works
  $ env -i
  $ sh
  $ /home/user/Softs/alarm.sh
  => works
  $ env -i
  $ . /home/user/Softs/alarm.sh
  => works
  $ env -i
  $ sh
  $ . /home/user/Softs/alarm.sh
  => works
  $ env -i
  $ sh
  $ su user -c '/usr/bin/paplay /home/user/.sounds/alarm_clock_short.ogg
  => asks for passwd, but works

  I've also changed the last line of my alarm.sh script with:
  /usr/bin/paplay /home/user/.sounds/alarm_clock_short.ogg
  or:
  su gmuller -c '/usr/bin/paplay /home/user/.sounds/alarm_clock_short.ogg'

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1492569] [NEW] impossible to save presets with similar names

2015-09-05 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

1. There is no page on bug.launchpad for pulseaudio-equalizer => I lost
my previous lengthy description of the bug :[

2. Create a preset and saving it as "low bass1"
3. Create a new preset and try to save it as "low bass2". As soon as you enter
"low bass" in the textfield, the "low bass1" preset gets loaded, so you loose
your current preset and are thus unable to save it.

This bug in the design of the GUI prevents users from saving 2 presets
with names starting the same

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1488939] [NEW] kill -L behaviour (is it a doc or code error?)

2015-08-26 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

$man kill

  List signal names in a nice table.

I'm not sure if it is a doc or code error, but the actual behaviour is
not what the doc describes...

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1444895] [NEW] xrandr --brightness resets gamma ratio

2015-04-16 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

$ xrandr --verbose | grep -iE '(gamma|bright)'
Gamma:  1.0:1.0:1.7
Brightness: 1.0
$ xrandr --output VGA1  --brightness .75
$ xrandr --verbose | grep -iE '(gamma|bright)'
Gamma:  1.0:1.0:1.0
Brightness: 0.75

As can be seen in the above command output, changing the brightness with
xrandr resets the gamma ratio to 1/1/1/ instead of 1/1/.6 (values in
xrandr --verbose output are inverted...)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1364289] [NEW] CTL-z+fg breaks (for) loops

2014-09-02 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

For the fourth time these days, I've found that CTL-z+fg has a strange
behaviour in bash now: it breaks the loops instead of pausing them.

Let's say I have the following loop:
for i in a b c d e ; do longcommand $i ; done
If I do a CTL-z, when longcommand is working on b, then everything is stopped,
as expected. If I do a fg, then longcommand b restart and finished, as
expected. However, as soon as longcommand b is finished, the loop ends.
longcommand c, longcommand d and longcommand e are never executed...

I'm unsure if this might come from a specific local config or not...
I've only noticed this strange behaviour recently, whereas I've not made
any change to my config files for a while.

Cheers

GM

2014-09-02 Thread G.M.
Just for clarification, I'm on latest upgrade of Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, and
I've noticed the same behaviour on latest Mint (not surprising
though...)

GNU bash, version 4.3.11(1)-release (x86_64-pc-linux-gnu)

Linux gyom 3.13.0-35-generic #62-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 15 01:58:42 UTC 2014
