[Touch-packages] [Bug 2060358] Re: [FFe] Please add German (Noted) layout

be fine.

Bug description:
Please add the newest layout of the German Neo keyboard layout family.
Noted is a layout designed to make typing as comfortable and efficient
as possible in both German and English. It was developed with the help
of a layout optimizer, which is based on the metrics and concepts of
ArneBab's optimizer and adapts and extends them.

I switched from Neo 2 via Mine to Noted and I like to see this variant
to be available out of the box in Ubuntu.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2056593] Re: [FFE] FIPS compatibility patches

** Changed in: openssl (Ubuntu)

You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2056593

Title:
  [FFE] FIPS compatibility patches

Status in openssl package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
We have an open MR with a handful of FIPS compatibilty changes we wore hoping
to get into 24.04. The main purpose of the changes is to detect whether the
kernel is running in FIPS mode and adjust the behavior of the library
accordingly by loading the correct provider backend and using defaults that
are FIPS compliant (no md5, DES etc) instead trying to use non-compliant code
  paths and crashing.

The proposed patches were taken from the OpenSSL version shipped in the FIPS
archive at esm.ubuntu.com for 22.04. Having them in the regular archive will
reduce the maintenance work significantly. None of the changes should have any
impact on running OpenSSL in regular (non-fips) mode.

Below is a detailed list of the changes:

  - d/p/fips/crypto-Add-kernel-FIPS-mode-detection.patch:
This adds a new internal API to determine whether the kernel has been booted
in FIPS mode. This can be overridden with the OPENSSL_FORCE_FIPS_MODE
environment variable. OPENSSL_FIPS_MODE_SWITCH_PATH can be used to specify
an
alternative path for the fips_enabled file and is used in tests.
The FIPS_MODULE switch can be used to enable build of the the FIPS provider
module specific parts which are not needed in the OpenSSL library itself.

  - d/p/fips/crypto-Automatically-use-the-FIPS-provider-when-the-kerne.patch:
This automatically configures all library contexts to use the FIPS provider
when
the kernel is booted in FIPS mode by:
    - Setting "fips=yes" as the default property for algorithm fetches
    - Loading and activating the FIPS provider as the fallback provider.

If applications load providers via a configuration either because the
default
configuration is modified or they override the default configuration, this
disables loading of the fallback providers. In this case, the configuration
must load the FIPS provider when FIPS mode is enabled, else algorithm
fetches
    will fail

Applications can choose to use non-FIPS approved algorithms by specifying
the
"-fips" or "fips=no" property for algorithm fetches and loading the default
    provider.

  - d/p/fips/apps-speed-Omit-unavailable-algorithms-in-FIPS-mode.patch:
Omit unavailable algorithms in FIPS mode

  - d/p/fips/apps-pass-propquery-arg-to-the-libctx-DRBG-fetches.patch
The -propquery argument might be used to define a preference for which
provider
an algorithm is fetched from. Set the query properties for the library
context
DRBG fetches as well so that they are fetched with the same properties.

  - d/p/fips/test-Ensure-encoding-runs-with-the-correct-context-during.patch:
This test uses 2 library contexts - one context for creating initial test
keys,
and then another context (or the default context) for running tests. There
is an
issue that during the encoding tests, the OSSL_ENCODER_CTX is created from
the
created EVP_PKEYs, which are associated with the library context used to
create
the keys. This means that encoding tests run with the wrong library context,
which always uses the default provider.

These changes are now included in a larger MR with other changes in
  the same package version:

https://code.launchpad.net/~adrien-n/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+git/openssl/+merge/462486

  The now-superseded MR is at

https://code.launchpad.net/~tobhe/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+git/openssl/+merge/460953

Since OpenSSL just received another big update to 3.0.13 we had to rebase our
changes
and will have to rerun our install/upgrade tests.

A test build is also available at
  https://launchpad.net/~tobhe/+archive/ubuntu/openssl-test/

iptables is unable to list the iptables rules or save the iptables
rules if a nftables ruleset is defined which iptables does not
  recognize.

  [ Test Plan ]

  1. Simple test plan based on upstream test case:

  sudo nft -f - < rules.txt

  * Convert the rule to nftables ruleset
    - sudo iptables-nft-restore < rules.txt

  * List the nftables ruleset
    - sudo nft list ruleset

  * Also confirm that iptables can list the old rule
    - sudo iptables -L

  * Now add another nftables rule (this rule is taken from upstream test
  case)

  sudo nft -f -

  2) The version of the package

  $ apt info iptables

  3) What you expected to happen

not to crash with valid, working nftables rules

Bug description:

   * gdb 13.1 as shipped in lunar is affected by a bug where it crashes upon

and bare metal, everything else with PAC should also be affected).

   * It was fixed upstream in gdb 13.2: https://inbox.sourceware.org/gdb-
 patches/20230316103904.1947447-1-luis.mach...@arm.com/.

   * Debian bookworm's gdb_13.1-3 also includes the same patch as
`aarch64-pauth-
 registers.patch`.

  [ Test Plan ]

   * This diff is confirmed to fix gdb 13.1 in lunar on my arm64 laptop.

   * This could be tested by running any program under lunar's gdb
 on any ARM64 PAC machine.

[ Where problems could occur ]

   * Problems aren't particularly likely as the exact patch was included in the
 last Debian stable.

   * In theory, a gdb rebuild could possibly cause breakage.

  full webcam support.

   * These dependencies, will need to make their way into gnome platform

Bug description:
  - 9/13/2023: version 1.3.2
This is a binary compatible release.
    * security fix for lossless decoder (chromium: #1479274, CVE-2023-4863)

  - 6/23/2023: version 1.3.1
This is a binary compatible release.
    * security fixes for lossless encoder (#603, chromium: #1420107, #1455619,
  CVE-2023-1999)
    * improve error reporting through WebPPicture error codes
    * fix upsampling for RGB565 and RGBA in NEON builds
    * img2webp: add -sharp_yuv & -near_lossless
    * Windows builds:
  - fix compatibility with clang-cl (#607)
  - improve Arm64 performance with cl.exe
  - add Arm64EC support
    * fix webp_js with emcc >= 3.1.27 (stack size change, #614)
    * CMake fixes (#592, #610, #612)
    * further updates to the container and lossless bitstream docs (#581, #611)

  - 12/16/2022: version 1.3.0
This is a binary compatible release.
    * add libsharpyuv, which exposes -sharp_yuv/config.use_sharp_yuv
functionality to other libraries; libwebp now depends on this library
    * major updates to the container and lossless bitstream docs (#448, #546,
  #551)
    * miscellaneous warning, bug & build fixes (#576, #583, #584)

Moreover the LP: #2013083 can be closed in this release.

The non-bugfix changes are related to a new library added, that is
used probably by firefox and chromium (next releases? or maybe they
  are using the embedded library)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2017786] Re: update script in ubuntu-meta not handling germinate or specified versions

2023-04-27 Thread Graham Inggs
The debdiff is against 1.481 in jammy, please rebase against the latest version
in the development release (currently 1.501 in lunar). You can use
'pull-lp-source ubuntu-meta' for this.
Please also close this bug in the changelog e.g. (LP: #2017786).

We should probably do the same for all the flavour meta packages as
well, so this bug should be marked as affecting ubuntu-unity-meta,
ubuntucinnamon-meta, etc.

Unsubscribing sponsors for now.

Bug description:
There's an upcoming security release for OpenSSL according to
  https://mta.openssl.org/pipermail/openssl-
  users/2022-October/015477.html

The timing is somewhat unfortunate given our own release schedule.

The current version of openssl in kinetic, 3.0.5-2ubuntu1, is actually
a snapshot of the 3.0 branch ahead of 3.0.5 (inherited from Debian
  during the last merge).

Sadly, they don't have a proper changelog (even partial) for the
upcoming release yet, but I'll attach the diff and shortlog between
our current version and the current state of the branch to get an idea
of what's to come. As usual for their 3.0 point releases, it's not
just security fixes but general bugfixes as well.

Title:
[FFe] new apparmor features for 3.0.7

Status in apparmor package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
We propose two new features for 3.0.7 Apparmor:

  1. parser support for user namespace mediation.

Since the last kernel update with commit
https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/kinetic/commit/?h=master-next=30bce26855c9171f8dee74d93308fd506730c914
Ubuntu 22.10 mediates user namespaces which allows for confined applications
to have unprivileged user namespace creation, instead of disabling it
completely.
If we want applications to have this ability, then we need to add support on
the parser, which is a feature we are introducing. Bug 1990064 is an example
caused by this.

  2. userspace support for posix message queue mediation

Kernel also has POSIX message queue mediation with commit
  https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
  kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/kinetic/commit/?h=master-
  next=44f28e2ccee2000c7da971876dd003d38a8232d8 which indicates that
if admins want to allow legitimate use of POSIX message queues, then
they will need the support of userspace tools.

We are also adding a fix for Bug 1990692 which will make the AppArmor
profiles for samba to be up to date with upstream.

  TESTING

This has been extensively tested by the security team - this includes
following the documented Ubuntu merges test plan[1] for AppArmor and the
extensive QA Regression Tests[2] for AppArmor as well. This ensures that
the various applications that make heavy use of AppArmor (LXD, docker,
lxc, dbus, libvirt, snapd etc) have all been exercised and no regressions
have been observed. All tests have passed and demonstrated both apparmor
and the various applications that use it to be working as expected.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1982108] Re: SRU: update python3.10 to the 3.10.5 release in 22.04 LTS

2022-09-06 Thread Graham Inggs
After some retries, the regressions were reduced to:

loguru/0.6.0-1 (arm64, amd64, s390x)
mypy/0.942-1 (ppc64el, arm64, amd64, s390x, armhf)

These are test failures already fixed in kinetic. I'm investigating
SRUs for these two packages.

Status in openssl package in Ubuntu:

Status in openssl source package in Jammy:

Status in openssl source package in Kinetic:

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Due to the case comparison differences in the Turkish locale, some routines in
OpenSSL fail to recognize some algorithm names as valid, unexpectedly breaking
  crypto.

  [Test Plan]

This bug is really easy to trigger:

  sudo locale-gen tr_TR.UTF-8
  LANG=C curl https://ubuntu.com/ > /dev/null # This work
  LANG=tr_TF.UTF-8 curl https://ubuntu.com/ > /dev/null # This fails

The error is curl: (35) error:0372:digital envelope
  routines::decode error

  [Where problems could occur]

This patch set is relatively massive, and can cause regressions, as
illustrated
by the patch #5 which fixes one such regression. Those regressions would
likely
show up as either libssl crashes, in case of uninitialized objects, or as
algorithm selection failures if somehow the case comparison is buggy.

  [Other Info]

The fix has already been released upstream as part of their 3.0.3 release.

  [Original report]
I noticed this when I checked "ua status". It alerted me that I should check
my openssl configuration.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1946965] Re: python3-defaults: py3versions -i does not list python3.10 when it is installed

2021-10-25 Thread Graham Inggs
man py3versions says:

   -i, --installed
Show the installed supported python3 versions.

so this was not a bug in impish, as although python3.10 can be
installed, it is not a supported version. This is fixed in
python3-defaults 3.9.4-1ubuntu2 in jammy-proposed. Sorry for the noise.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1946965] Re: python3-defaults: py3versions -i does not list python3.10 when it is installed

2021-10-20 Thread Graham Inggs
This doesn't affect upgrades, so I don't think it's needed in focal.
Hirsute also has python3.10 available, but not as a supported version,
and is also affected by this, but I don't think worth another SRU.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1887372] Re: Cannot create lvm upon IMSM raid array

2021-09-07 Thread Graham Inggs
Both of those patches are present in 2.03.11 which was available in
21.04 and backported to 20.04 (see LP: #1929432).

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

Title:
Cannot create lvm upon IMSM raid array

Status in lvm2 package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in lvm2 source package in Focal:
  Incomplete
Status in lvm2 source package in Groovy:
  Won't Fix
Status in lvm2 source package in Hirsute:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
The issue has been observed on 2.3.7 (Ubuntu 20.04).
  Reported to lvm team:
  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1855251

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Create IMSM raid array:
  #mdadm -CR imsm -e imsm -n2 /dev/nvme[01]n1
  #mdadm -CR vol -l1 -n2 /dev/nvme[01]n1 -z 5G

  2. Create lvm volume on raid:
  # pvcreate -ff -y /dev/md/vol
  # vgcreate group0 /dev/md/vol
  # lvcreate -Z y -y -l +100%FREE group0 -n lvm0

  Actual results:
  Vg creation fails.

  Expected results:
LVM should be able to determine the best drive and ignore duplicates.

  Additional info:
IMSM metadata is written at the end of the drive. The first drive sector
belongs to the raid volume and other metadata saved there (like lvm) can be
recognized directly on raid members.

The following patches should fix the issue (not verified yet):

https://sourceware.org/git/?p=lvm2.git;a=commit;h=23774f997ea077f2cbe8a32bd8bccdd7f4560cca

Title:
Update contrab(5) manpage to match new behaviour

Status in cron package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  From LP: #1779767 comment 13:

In crontab(5) in cron 3.0pl1-136ubuntu2 the manpage is now wrong. It
  says:

  > Several environment variables are set up automatically by the cron(8)
daemon.
  > […] PATH is set to "/usr/bin:/bin". HOME, SHELL, and PATH may be overridden
  > by settings in the crontab […]

  and also

  > On the Debian GNU/Linux system, cron supports the pam_env module, and loads
  > the environment specified by /etc/environment and
/etc/security/pam_env.conf.
  > It also reads locale information from /etc/default/locale. However, the PAM

the

  > "/usr/bin:/bin", you will need to set it in the crontab file.

These should be fixed I think. There might be other spots that I didn't notice
  yet too.

Title:
e2fsprogs FTBFS when built with libfuse3-dev

Status in e2fsprogs package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Fuse3 is a requirement for qemu 6 (LP: #1934510). Since we don't want
to support two versions of fuse in main, we'd like reverse-
dependencies of fuse to switch to fuse3.

e2fsprogs FTBFS in a test rebuild changing the build-dependency on
  libfuse-dev to libfuse3-dev.

  Excerpt from the build log:

  checking for fuse.h... no

2021-07-12 Thread Graham Inggs
fuse2fs built from src:e2fsprogs is in universe, so it is not critical
that s2fsprogs switch to fuse3.
