Bug description:
My printer (EPSON Stylus Photo RX520) is connected to a Yakkety station
called "paris" which is the printing server.
Printing is fine from the server.

When i configure another Yakkety station to print via this server, the
printer is detected OK via dnssd, the driver is installed OK. But i can't
print.
I get the following message "Unable to locate printer "paris.local"."

I used to work on xenial but the connection was through ipps. I tried
to configure the connection as in xenial, to no avail ...

  What i did:
  add "192.168.1.4 paris.local" in /etc/hosts
remove printer from cups, reinstalled it and i finally was able to print on
the remote printer!

Don't know if this problem is related to cups or avahi ...

  Ubuntu 16.10

What i expected to happen: printing successful
What happened: client cannot locate remote printer, add to add a line in
/etc/hosts to make it work

2018-04-03 Thread Jimmy Olsen
Idk if I did has something to do with the bug itself. I noticed this bug
happened just after when I added PPA as seen from
https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2018/03/gimp-2-10-release-candidate-released
and ran "sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade" commands. Once it was
removed,no error was shown anymore.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1631236] Re: Xorg freeze with Nvidia 960m on Dell Inspiron 15-7559

2016-11-03 Thread Jimmy Pan
I can never boot with the nvidia drivers. For the latest nvidia-367.75
in the repo, neither. This time, after the boot info shows up, it just
leaved a blinking cursor for a while and then the screen completely went
black.

Without the nvidia driver, it cannot shutdown right. But looks like the
problem is getting better now, I sometimes don't need to press the
powerbutton to shutdown.

This looks like the gtx 960m problem since I found other users not only
on dell 7559 have the problem.

Anyway, hope this problem can be fix soon.

Title:
Xorg freeze with Nvidia 960m on Dell Inspiron 15-7559

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Posted first about this issue at
  https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2339198

  Pasted post below:

"I installed Ubuntu 16.04 Desktop alongside Windows 10 Home on a Dell
Inspiron 15-7559 with an Nvidia 960m card and embeded Intel Skylake
  graphics.

When I first installed Ubuntu and attempted to boot, the display would
freeze on the Ubuntu splash screen after entering my disk password.
Strangely, by removing "quiet" and "splash" from my grub configuration
during my next boot, I was able to finally boot to the login screen
and access the desktop. I installed the Intel and Nvidia drivers in
the "Additional Drivers" app and now I can boot to the login screen
  with no issues.

Now, when closing the laptop lid to suspend the system, it resumes to
a blank screen and I can't get it to recover from this state without
holding the power button to force shutdown. I verified that it is a
display issue because I was able to ssh into the machine while it had
  the blank screen.

I was able to install and boot into the latest (4.8) mainline kernel,
which also gave me a warning/error because of my installed proprietary
drivers. I tried uninstalling the Nvidia drivers to see if Nouveau had
been fixed/improved, but the previous splash screen freeze returned; I
was able to reinstall the drivers by booting into 4.8 recovery mode
and using the Failsafe graphics mode to reinstall the Nvidia drivers.

Any help on getting Nouveau to work nicely with the 960m so I don't
have to run proprietary drivers or solve the suspend issue?"

Now, I sometimes cannot shutdown properly without getting warnings
about cpu soft lockups from gpu-manager. I also get these when I boot
without nvidia drivers with "quiet" and "splash" options removed from
  my grub config.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1596723] [NEW] logger(1) continuously outputs same timestamp

2016-06-27 Thread Jimmy Zelinskie
Public bug reported:

As per the issue created on syslog-ng's GitHub repository:
https://github.com/balabit/syslog-ng/issues/1098

When content is piped to `logger`, every message gets the timestamp of
when the logger process started. This is a regression between 14.04 and
16.04. Previously, logger would report an individual timestamp per
message.

A workaround is to let syslog create the timestamp rather than logger.

** Affects: util-linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1585614] Re: libc on 2016-05-25 causes Apache not to restart, libm.so.6: symbol __strtold_nan, version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

2016-05-25 Thread Andreas "Jimmy" Gredler
Steve: I think it does not happen with 14.04 because Apache is not restarted
during the upgrade process. Not sure why but that's what my tests with 14.04
showed me.
My tests with 12.04 are not 100% reproducible which makes me wonder if there is
a race condition in the postinst script of libapache2-mod-php5. Is there a
chance that Apache is reloaded before ldconfig is completely finished? That
would also explain why a simple restart of Apache solves the problem.
This is how I test:
# apt-get install libc6=2.15-0ubuntu10.13 libc-bin=2.15-0ubuntu10.13
libapache2-mod-php5=5.3.10-1ubuntu3 php5-common=5.3.10-1ubuntu3
# apt-get upgrade

In some cases Apache does not restart successfully, in some it does.

Looks like I am trying to roll back all those php packages... Which I
see several updates marked Security Update in the changelogs, thus
checking the "security vulnerability" box as rolling back in this case
  is such. :-(

  Interesting problem.

Whenever I start up X, it loads RandR, so far as I can tell (The xorg
log shows that it is indeed loaded), but If I ever try to do anything
via xrandr, it tells me that the extension is missing on my display.

  m3r1k@reborn-desktop:~$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log |grep RandR

  m3r1k@reborn-desktop:~$ xrandr -q

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1449555] Re: password request for cryptswap1 during boot when encrypted home directory selected

2015-05-29 Thread Jimmy Frydkær Dürr
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1453738 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1453738

I have just installed Wily desktop with encrypted LVM and encrypted
/home and I get this error to: System asking for passphrase for
cryptswap1.

It also showed several times while installing packages in Synaptic.

Having a 20 character password for unlocking my LVM I got lazy and tried
to hit the Enter key without typing my password and the system continued
to load Ubuntu up to the login-screen.

To me it seems like a major problem that one can enter an empty password
to bypass security.

The security is not all that compromised on an LVM system but it is on a
system with encryptet /home only.

Confirmed on 14.04.2 LTS - the "Unlock from launcher" work-around works
perfectly. It *has* to be related.

  HOW TO REPRODUCE

  1. Connect a removable media to the computer.
  2. On the launcher, click on the "Files" icon.
  3. On the left sidebar, click on the removable media icon or the trash.
  4. Minimize the window.
  5. Click on the "Files" icon.

  EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR

  - The Files window to be maximized.

  REAL BEHAVIOUR

  - A new window is opened.

  RELEVANT DETAILS

  - One way to navigate between windows at this moment is to use the
"control + tabulation" key combination, or to click again on the
"Files" icon so windows are exposed.

Otherwise the minimized window Can be restored by clicking on the
Volume's launcher icon or scrolling on the Files icon

  **
   SOLUTION
  **

  WORK-AROUND

  - On the launcher, left click on the "Files" icon and select the
  "unlock from Launcher" option.

  FIX

  - The launcher icon for "Files" to be treated the same way as if it
  was unlocked.

  REGRESSION POTENTIAL

  - Clicking on the "Files" icon won't send the user to its home folder,
but to the latest opened Files window.
