Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 2043442] Re: /usr/libexec/ibus-ui-gtk3 --enable-wayland-im system freezes

2023-11-18 Thread L. P. Luigi Espenlaub
Thank you Paul.
I did hit a launchpad problem in that the link
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2043442/+editstatus
returns

"Lost something?

This page does not exist, or you may not have permission to see it.

If you have been to this page before, it is possible it has been
removed.

Check that you are logged in with the correct account, or that you entered
the address correctly, or search for it:"

Could you point me to where to report this launchpad.net broken link?

I have returned to bug 2043442 and confirmed I could select to edit it
there so no problem for me. However, I would like to help others not to
encounter the same error by reporting it properly.

Between you and Gunnar I have learned much, Thanks,

Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 2043442] Re: /usr/libexec/ibus-ui-gtk3 --enable-wayland-im system freezes

2023-11-18 Thread L. P. Luigi Espenlaub
Thankyou for your quick response and question.
I opened the following to check
Settings > Input Devices > Keyboard > Generic 104-key PC is selected there
Then noticed the object of your question.
IBus Wayland is apparently the default with Ubuntu Studio.
Help me, my assumptions are often suspect, thus this question. Is selecting
Settings > Input Devices > Virtual Keyboard > [None] the same as
"im-config -n none" in Konsole
I have selected [None] and will reboot.
Also if you have the time.
Does "im" only concern the Virtual Keyboard, or am I turning off other
features as well?
A point to a source that will help me understand "im" will help me in the
future.

Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1522675] Re: Warning messages about unsandboxed downloads

2017-05-17 Thread L. P. Luigi Espenlaub
Is the command "CHOWN" or "CHOWN(1)" ?
Thank you, for the info on this particular error as I had fond that the
chown command was some how to be used,

Probably off topic here, but it would be a great help if you could answer.
I've been puzzled by the (1)? My attempt at finding --h help or invoking
the command using "chown(1)" always returned the "unexpected argument "(""
error. I haven't quite figured out (1)'s meaning or necessity.

Being new to Linux and Unix and a Mister Literal has left me wondering if
(1) or (2) is not part of the command, why is it there?

If that info has been lost in the Unix Halls of Time that's OK. As I
remember from my 8-bit days ( was a reserved character in the DOS world,
Same set in the Unix world?

As a wise instructor friend of mine said "Common sense is only what has
been commonly taught." I keep finding I missed that class at some point.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 864735] Re: [ATI HDMI] HDMI Audio Disabled by Default (since oneiric)

2017-04-26 Thread L. P. Luigi Espenlaub
This problem has shown up in 16.04 with alsamixer v1.1.0. Did someone remove
the patch or fail to integrate the fix into 16.04
had to run alsamixer from terminal and unmute the speaker from there. Muting
and un-muting in rhythem box does not fix the HDMI sound problem.

Title:
  [ATI HDMI] HDMI Audio Disabled by Default (since oneiric)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Since kernel 3.0, upstream has disabled audio output for all ATI cards
  in the Radeon driver by default.

  === Workaround 1 ===

  Edit /etc/default/grub and change this line:

  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

  to this line

  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash radeon.audio=1"

  Now run "sudo update-grub", then reboot your computer.

  === Or workaround 2 ===

  Install the proprietary Catalyst driver.

  ===

  There's no sound at all and videos playback in fast forward when
  outputting through the HDMI controller. This is a regression since it
  worked well in previous releases.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1549531] Re: package linux-image-extra-4.4.0-7-generic 4.4.0-7.22 failed to install/upgrade: run-parts: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools exited with return code 2

2016-08-21 Thread L. P. Luigi Espenlaub
I got only the "some packages did not ..." "System might be unusable"
messages. Since I am not experienced in Ubuntu I do not know what to do
to get more specific information. Nor do I have a workaround. Afraid to
reboot.

Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

  Upgrade failure.
  But system is still running ...

  Edit (of 2016-02-25):
  Package in question is installed. So what's the issue? Is it just a wrong
message I received from the system? (It was telling me that my system would be
corrupted and probably unusable ... I'm happy it is not the case ...)

  Edit (of 2016-02-26):
  Because of some sound issues I applied following command to reinstall recent
kernel: sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-image-$(uname -r)
