Title:
blender crashes on python code completion

Status in Blender:
  Fix Released
Status in Python:
  New
Status in blender package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Release: ubuntu 14.10 64 bit
  blender version: 2.70a-2ubuntu3

Open the python console with SHIFT F4, type a blender python class,
e.g. bpy., and press CTRL BLANK for code completion. Blender crashes
with a segmentation fault. The expected behavior is showing a list of
  attributes/methods of the python class.

If you need more informations like gdb backtrace or logfiles, please
have a look on this blender bug report:
  https://developer.blender.org/T43491

We - that meens some of the guys discussing this bug - think it's a
library compatibility problem which can be solved by a rebuild. As I
found another segmentation fault - if you mark an object, press 'm' to
move it to another layer, and click on the layer symbol - I think that
the actual blender build on ubuntu is a little bit unstable.

I reproduced both segfaults with an ubuntustudio 14.10 live dvd.

Bug description:
  (*)Ubuntu 18.04 (any flavor).

Blender 3D Modeler is missing 2/3 the "System tab" panel options
regarding to OpenGL, localization, font overrides, translations, lamp
directions and options to use custom colors for bone weights.

Since 18.04 beta 1 and 2, I have been comparing the blender 2.79b
present at the 18.04LTS obtained via apt-get to the one downloaded
directly from Blender Foundation. If you install Blender from apt-get
first, and then download and extract Blender from Blender Foundation
in any folder, running the software you can go to the "User
preference" options using CTRL U, and navigate to the "System tab"
  options.

Now, compare the system tab of both. 2/3 of the options are missing in
  the default apt-get (*)ubuntu install.

Many thanks for fixing this !

[Touch-packages] [Bug 902618] Re: Blender crashes when an object is selected

Title:
Blender crashes when an object is selected

Status in blender package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Blender crashes nondeterministically, but when it occurs, it's
immediately following a right-click on an object. I can right-click
an unpredictable number of times just fine, but then suddenly poof!
Blender instantly vanishes and I'm looking at the command line.
Sometimes the very first right-click after starting Blender will crash
  it.

All Blender 2.5x and 2.6x show this crash, including a recent 2.6
compiled from source. All versions of Blender were obtained as
binaries in tarballs from the official Blender site, except source
obtained through their svn (or was it git?) repository. What about
the official Ubuntu package for Blender? Tried it too, and it
  crashes.

I had been using ubuntu 11.04, with xubuntu-desktop added, when this
problem started. When 11.10 came out, I hoped it would fix the crash
by updating some hypothetical buggy library or something, but no it
  didn't.

It's a Heisenbug in that all attempts to create a small simple scene
for testing don't lead to a crash. Apparently the bug senses when
I'm doing serious work. Scenes that do crash have meshes of only a
few hundred quads, only 3 or 4 lights, and default textures. There's
plenty of CPU power and RAM.

I suspect something other than Blender itself is the problem. Blender
ran fine for hours at a time, but started crashing about three weeks
ago. Memory, disk check out ok, and all other complex software runs
fine. From years of experience with computers, software development
and Linux, I get the impression it's a problem with some library or
X11 version mismatch, maybe something with the windows manager or
desktop system, or a misconfiguration of any of these.

I will be happy to run any special debuggers or diagnostics to get to
  the bottom of this.

  Description: Ubuntu 11.10
  Release: 11.10

Strace and gdb running Blender don't reveal much. Here's a gdb run

Delay selection in blender - ubuntu 13.04 - ati 4250

When you select an object in Blender 2.66a, selection is slow. As if delay.
No matter the complexity of the object, it is slow when selecting objects.
(Blender installed from the ubuntu software center)
My pc is an Acer Aspire 5552-6829 with integrated ATI HD4250 video with
"Gallium 0.4 on AMD RS880" driver.

This "error" occurs after installing Ubuntu 13.04 with Unity, but also
occurs in Ubuntu GNOME 13.04. (all 64 bit) ... Previously not happen
  with Ubuntu 12.04 (kernel 3.2 / 5).

Since there is an apparent problem or tangible and also am a newbie
with this from the bugs, I would like to know what I have to analyze
with "ubuntu-bug" I'm not sure it's the composer of windows or
  X.org.

  * Summary details:
  Ubuntu 13.04 64bit
  Blender 2.66a
  Ati HD4250
  Gallium 0.4 on AMD RS880
