I know it's kind of rude just to "+1" on an issue. But whoever is
responsible for these NVidia drivers deserved it. So, +1. Issue is not
fixed. Blank screen on upgrade from 16.04.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1713004] Re: Temporary files left under /var/tmp by mkinitramfs

2017-12-05 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
Can https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1674568 be
another manifestation of this problem? In short: old kernel versions
left under /var/lib/initramfs-tools

I recently ran out of disk space on my / mount. While looking for
what consumed the disk I noticed a large number (130) of directories
with names / paths beginning /var/tmp/mkinitramfs. These directories
seem to be either ~103 MB or ~927 MB in size. Many of these files are
months old, some are almost a year.

Having had a quick look about for an explanation as to why these files
are here and found Debian Bug #814345. That explains that temporary
files are left behind by the initramfs-tools if something fails in the
process. If this is the cause of my files then updating the Ubuntu

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1515513] Re: /boot/initrd.img-*.old-dkms files left behind

Bug description:
  [Impact]
If a dkms package is installed which has REMAKE_INITRD or the same setting
has be manually configured by a user then when a kernel is removed its possible
for an ".old-dkms" file to be left in /boot with no associated kernel.

  [Test Case]
On a system with two old kernels and one new kernel available in -updates:
  1) install r8168-dkms
  2) install the dkms module for the old kernel e.g. 'sudo dkms install -m
r8168 -v 8.041.00 -k 4.4.0-31-generic'
  3) upgrade your kernel e.g. "sudo apt install linux-image-generic'
  4) sudo apt autoremove
  5) observe something like "initrd.img-4.4.0-31-generic.old-dkms" in /boot
without a corresponding "initrd.img-4.4.0-31-generic"

With the version of dkms in -proposed, the .old-dkms file will be
removed when the kernel is auto removed.

  [Regression Potential]
Somebody out there might expect the .old-dkms file to be kept, but that seems
like an odd expectation.

One notices *.old-dkms files being left behind still sitting on the
disk after purging the related kernel. This can cause /boot to become
full, and when it gets really bad, even sudo apt-get autoremove won't
fix the problem - only deleting the old-dkms files manually solves the
  problem.

Note: Filling up the /boot partition causes updates to fail.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1383470] Re: scp does not work (fails at 'Sending command scp -v -t')

2017-05-22 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
I've found a clue. It's a server with limited bandwidth and it's
currently using all of it. Not sure how the limit works, but I'm sure
that's the problem: something is placing nginx traffic above scp traffic
and the latter waits for hours.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1383470] Re: scp does not work (fails at 'Sending command scp -v -t')

2017-05-22 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
It's still an issue because there is some network failure that is not
timeouted correctly. But I cannot provide steps to reproduce it because
I don't yet know how to identify what exactly is wrong. Looks like it's
a hosting-side issue because I've tried connecting from completely
different locations and the issue persists.

Disabling MOTD and PrintLastLog has no effect (obviously). Found a
suggestion about disabling all messages during login, decided to try
even that.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1383470] Re: scp does not work (fails at 'Sending command scp -v -t')

2017-05-15 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
Tried using strace on the server that has this version:

$ while true; do pid=`pidof scp` && sudo strace -p `pidof scp`; sleep 1; done
Process 7653 attached
read(0,

And that's all, it doesn't output anything more.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 556372] Re: Please remove the plymouth dependency from mountall / cryptsetup

2016-06-10 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
I don't yet understand how exactly the next two facts combine: 1)
Plymouth is not just a splash screen but required for something
cryptsetup does 2) cryptsetup works just fine without it on many setups

What conditions are required for the cryptsetup to fail in any way when
plymouth package is absent?

Title:
Please remove the plymouth dependency from mountall / cryptsetup

Status in cryptsetup:
  Confirmed
Status in mountall package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: mountall

I noticed that mountall (and cryptsetup) depends on plymouth now.
Whatever plymouth is doing or not doing, my headless system is booting
fine without plymouth (dpkg --force-depends -P plymouth), yet all
disks (local, NFS) are mounted and cryptsetup is setting up encrypted
  swap as it used to.

IMHO the "Depends: plymouth" is too hard and should be replaced with
"Recommends:" or "Suggests:" for the following reasons:

  - Headless systems won't ever see what plymouth is doing ("graphical boot
animation")
  - Plymouth itself depends on quite a few libraries (libdrm-*), unnecessarily
adding code to the installation- Mountall is of "Priority: required" while
plymouth is "optional". The "Depends:" makes plymouth essentially "required" as
well and cannot be uninstalled w/o --force options.

  Please reconsider this dependency.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 657551] Re: console-setup doesn't start

2016-01-07 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
Worked after changing /etc/default/console-setup to

CHARMAP="UTF-8"
CODESET="Uni2"
FONTFACE="Fixed"
FONTSIZE="16"

, then unzipping the font file (don't remember where I've read that it
helps):

cd /etc/console-setup
sudo gunzip -k Uni2-Fixed16.psf.gz
sudo update-initramfs -u

__vb2_queue_cancel() - cancel and stop (pause) streaming
Removes all queued buffers from driver's queue and all buffers queued by
userspace from videobuf's queue. Returns to state after reqbufs.

Why does it want to stop streaming in the first place?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1240336] Re: Not authorized to perform operation / Unable to determine the session we are in: No session for pid

2014-10-28 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
DO NOT INSTALL systemd-sysv unless you absolutely sure you know what you
are doing. It breaks too much on 14.10 at the moment. There is a bunch
of packages that need prerm/postinst script editing to not break dpkg
state without upstart.

Bug description:
After a new install of 64 bit Ubuntu 13.10 on my second partition, I
used dpkg to reinstall all the same packages I had on my 32 bit 13.04
partition. I copied all my home directory files over and updated all
the packages. I now find that I don't have permissions to change the
network settings; I can't mount my other hard drive or any USB stick
using nautilus, or (udisks without using sudo)' I can't run synaptic
  by clicking on the GUI (I have to go to a terminal and sudo synaptic);
etc. I can't find any documentation on the configuration of
policykit-desktop-privileges, so I'm filing this bug. For me it
appears to be totally broken. Maybe someone can help me out.

  Thanks,

  Rob
