[Touch-packages] [Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find

2019-07-25 Thread Shevek
This change has made the system effectively inappropriate for use in a
business situation where mistakes are to be avoided. In the old system,
searching within a folder for a file to send to a client would only list
files from that folder. Now, file-open and so on show me files from
ANYWHERE ON THE SYSTEM FOR ANY CLIENT WHATSOEVER, leaving the user a
single mis-click away from a GDPR violation. Choosing a folder should
set a boundary on the files displayed. If I want search, I'll search.

  restore type-ahead find

Bug description:
GNOME removed type-ahead find in Nautilus 3.6, not without
  controversy:

  https://mail.gnome.org/archives/nautilus-
  list/2012-August/msg2.html

Now when you type in a Nautilus window, Nautilus immediately performs
a search in the current directory and all its subdirectories. I
personally find this annoying. If I want to search, I'll click the
search icon. Often I'm looking at a long directory listing and simply
want to jump to a certain point in it, and type-ahead find works great
  for that.

Would Ubuntu consider patching type-ahead find back in?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1687722] Re: lightdm should not have a pulseaudio config

2017-07-11 Thread Shevek
@robert-ancell Go on, give us a clue. Who _should_ we report this to?
We've gotten so far as to figure out WHY volume mutes when the screen
locks, which is frankly killer for any RT AV work, and now I'm lost in
the maze of twisty microservices, all alike.

I'm just a user here, yet I've diagnosed the issue, and taken the plunge
of reporting a bug to the monster that is Launchpad in the full
expectation that in a year or so I'll get an email telling me that
nobody gave a damn, and the bot has closed it. But here is an unrivaled
opportunity to do better.

Title:
Thinkpad T550: Broadwell with Intel HD5500 powers off randomly

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
In the first two weeks of owning a Broadwell T550, I have suffered
about two dozen abrupt power-offs. This has happened:

  a) While resuming from suspend.
  b) While in normal operation and just moving the mouse.
  c) While switching from X to console by pressing ctrl-alt-F1.

There was no kernel panic, no log files, just an abrupt power-off.

In conjunction with several other HD5500 issues, I am starting to
suspect the intel video driver, and have switched to the modesetting
driver. Setting the Intel driver to use AccelMethod: none made the
system more reliable but did not eliminate crashes.

Workaround: Put the following in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

  Section "Device"
  Identifier "intel"
  Driver "modesetting"
  EndSection

Workaround: Put the following in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

  Section "Device"
  Identifier "intel"
  Driver "modesetting"
  EndSection

  b) While in normal operation and just moving the mouse.
  c) While switching from X to console by pressing ctrl-alt-F1.

Workaround: Put the following in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

  Section "Device"
  Identifier "intel"
  Driver "modesetting"
  EndSection

Workaround: Put the following in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

  Section "Device"
  Identifier "intel"
  Driver "modesetting"
  EndSection

Workaround: Put the following in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

  Section "Device"
  Identifier "intel"
  Driver "modesetting"
  EndSection

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1434341] Re: Intel HD5500: No video after suspend/resume cycle

2015-09-29 Thread Shevek
This was months ago, and I have taken another solution which does not
involve the Ubuntu intel xserver.

Title:
Intel HD5500: No video after suspend/resume cycle

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Thinkpad T550, Vivid
  Suspend/resume works sometimes.
On restore, no image on X. System apparently still active, because keyboard
light (e.g. mute) still responding.
Could not switch to console using ctrl-alt-f1.

  Thinkpad T550, Trusty
Suspend/resume worked almost every time for 2 weeks.

light-locker seems to screw things up by changing video modes, so I always
remove that. Suspend/resume/lock/etc always fails with light-locker.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1343527] Re: Xorg crashes on VT switch

2014-07-17 Thread Shevek
Uninstalling xserver-xorg-input-synaptics fixes the issue. However, of
course the trackpad no longer works.
