[Touch-packages] [Bug 1494155] Re: [mako] pulseaudio resample methos missing src-sinc-*
Nowhere in either the parent post, nor in the comments, is 'bang for the buck' even talked about. The entire thing seems to be about choosing a higher quality default sampling method due to the availability of faster CPUs. In fact, libsamplerate is never mentioned by name, and src-sinc-.* are only mentioned by listing them with a few others and deeming them 'indistinguishable'. HOWEVER, in the comments they *do* mention that upsampling causes more distortion than downsampling, and that sampling rates further apart cause more than sampling rates closer together. This isn't terribly important most of the time, except... ... Pulseaudio only supports configuring two sample rates at a time. So you have a default lower one, and if an audio source has a higher sample rate, it'll be upsampled to the alternative, higher sample rate. So what if your alternative sample rate is much higher? I have a sound card that supports 192000, what if I'm curious what that sounds like? I have a fairly fast CPU (i7-4790K with hyperthreading disabled so that each core works as fast as possible), and I have that set up as my alternative sampling rate. But the graphs only test conversion from 44100 to 48000. I have a feeling that the differences will be *much* more noticeable on a setup converting from 48000 to 192000. But now I can't compare using src-sinc-.* because its been removed. And seemingly with no discussion or reason. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1494155 Title: [mako] pulseaudio resample methos missing src-sinc-* Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: I tried to change the pulse resampling on my mako to src-sinc-best- quality and medium, to no avail. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1401623] Re: 1002:674a [HP Z620 Workstation] Corrupted mouse cursor on one of the screens
Christopher, it is unlikely that any automated tool is ever going to capture this bug any more than it already has. It is much more beneficial to find out why it might NOT happen, than why it DOES happen. What's more, is that it seems that this bug is in the proprietary driver upstream... So the most helpful thing we could do to get this fixed, is to show how many people are affected. Because the current way of doing things does not in any way show how many people are affected, the current way of doing things will simply not help. It is utterly flawed, and those articles don't help to address this matter. For one thing, those articles are written with crashes and bad behavior within open source software in mind - neither of which is the case here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1401623 Title: 1002:674a [HP Z620 Workstation] Corrupted mouse cursor on one of the screens Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Corrupted mouse cursor on one of the screens. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1401623] Re: Corrupted mouse cursor on one of the screens
I'm on 14.10 using an AMD Radeon R9 290X, and having the same issue. The fact that we're supposed to make new bug reports every time someone's hardware is slightly different or a new version of Ubuntu comes out is mildly infuriating, because it makes it seem as if there are fewer people with this issue than there really are. I've seen tons of bug reports with almost no activity, probably because people just went to nVidia and never bothered to check back here. This problem seems to happen with all AMD display adapters when there are 2 or more monitors, with very few exceptions. I feel that studying those exceptions separately from when it *doesn't* work will be more helpful, because not working seems to be the norm. If there is a 'central' bug report for this issue that hasn't been marked 'invalid' because it was started on an old version of Ubuntu, please point me to it. If you tell me to just make another bug report, please tell me why that will help in any way, shape, or form. Seriously. It's not helped the countless people so far, and the chances of it helping me seem nil. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1401623 Title: Corrupted mouse cursor on one of the screens Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Corrupted mouse cursor on one of the screens.
