Bug description:
The Python 2.7.8 in Utopic contains backports for the TLSv1.1 and 1.2
protocols in the _ssl module; however the TLSv1.1 and 1.2 is not
usable / at least enforeacble on Python 2.7.6 as shipped with Trusty.
Given the number of security woes lately in OpenSSL, and the
possibility of breaches in TLSv1, it would be worthwhile to
preemptively apply the https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0466/ to at
  least Trusty.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1500768] Re: python3.4.3 SRU break requests

If I grab the latest cloud image (https://cloud-
images.ubuntu.com/vagrant/trusty/current/trusty-server-cloudimg-amd64
-vagrant-disk1.box) I'm completely broken. Is there a cloud image that
works?

Sicne the upgade to python 3.4.3 on trusty, I'm getting this error when using

The code is using python-requests, with verify=True for ssl connection
(default). Some tests are testing that invalid certificates are
  rejected: https://github.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-
  make/blob/master/umake/network/download_center.py#L129

Rerunning the same code with previous trusty package (3.4.0~trusty1)
doesn't show up this issue. It seems that SNI is broken for the trusty
version of python3-requests with 3.4.3. (See the FAQ http://www
  .python-requests.org/en/latest/community/faq/ with "What are “hostname
doesn’t match” errors?" and the stackoverflow question.

I did run a test, grabbing requests 2.7 and backporting it to trusty
(I needed to as well to take python3-urllib3 willy version).

So, 3.4.3 has an incompatible change for existing projects and people
with proxys are starting to see some breakage like in
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-make/+bug/1499890.

Can we get it fix somehow, reverting the incompatible change breaking
SNI (I wonder if this is "Changed in version 3.4.3: This class now
performs all the necessary certificate and hostname checks by default.
To revert to the previous, unverified, behavior
ssl._create_unverified_context() can be passed to the context
  parameter." in https://docs.python.org/3/library/http.client.html or
something else) so that existing code can either get a new compatible
python-requests or avoid incompatible changes in python 3.4.3?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1436330] Re: Network Manager doesn't set metric for local networks any more, causing connection issues

2015-05-20 Thread graingert
Ah you're correct. I was looking at the wrong rows.

I get the correct metrics on:

0.0.0.0 10.10.0.254 0.0.0.0 UG 100 0 0 eth1
0.0.0.0 10.10.0.254 0.0.0.0 UG 400 0 0 wlan0

But the wrong metrics on the ones that count.

10.10.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 wlan0
10.10.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 eth1

The problem connecting to websites etc with wifi on still manifests.

  causing connection issues

Status in NetworkManager:

Bug description:
  [Impact]
NM changed its method of setting routes on systems, and no longer attaches a
metric value specific to the type of device being used. These values were used
to prioritize connections, so that for example, when connected to both wired
and wireless at the same time, wired can be used in priority over wireless
without incurring packet loss.
Currently, when connected to both wired and wireless are connected to the
same subnet, the user may notice connectivity issues since packets are sent in
a round-robin fashion over all default routes on the same subnet with the same
metric.

  [Test Case]
1- Connect to a wireless network.
2- Connect to the same network over Ethernet both connections should come up
on the same subnet.
3- Make sure there is no packet loss, and that there are specific metric
values for each default route, as displayed by 'ip route'.

  [Regression Potential]
Since handling default routes properly involves correcting the behavior for
all device types, VPN behavior may change to pick up the default routes in all
cases, over a wired connection. It's also possible that a connection pick up
the default route when it is not meant to.

  ---

With Vivid, having two connections to the same network subnet is
unstable due to missing metrics for local networks.

  Example:

Being connected to 192.168.1.0/24 via both wired and wireless will
cause connectivity issues as sent packets hop between the two
  interfaces.

It used to be that this wasn't an issue. I would go between work and
home and plug in and my machine would automatically connect to
wireless and it would use the lower metric ethernet interface for all
communications, while the wlan interface would remain connected but
  unused.

[SRU] Backport python3.4 logging module backward incompatibility fix.

Bug description:
Python 3.4 released with a backward incompatible change in the logging
module. This bug has been tracked and fixed
upstream in http://bugs.python.org/issue22386. Summary is that
logging.getLevelName(lvl)
would return an integer value for a string lvl and a string value for an
integer lvl.
It mapped the two representations of log levels to each other. This behavior
existed
in python2.6 through python3.3 but was removed in 3.4. The new behavior in
3.4 was to
only map integer lvl values to strings.

  [Impact]

Any python code that aims to be compatible with python2.6 and python3.4 must
carry its
own log level mappings (which may change under it because the loglevels are
extensible)
or access private data within the python logging module. Both approaches are
fragile
but thankfully upstream python 3.4 has patched this behavior so a downstream
update
to Trusty python3.4 would allow code to easily support 2.6 and 3.4.

  [Test Case]

As detailed in the upstream bug you can test this easily via the
  interactive interpreter.

  Desired Behavior:
   logging.getLevelName('INFO')
  20
   logging.getLevelName(20)
  'INFO'

  Current Trusty Behavior:
  # This function call should return 20.
   logging.getLevelName('INFO')
  'Level INFO'
   logging.getLevelName(20)
  'INFO'
   logging.getLevelName(logging.INFO)
  'INFO'

  [Regression Potential]

The upstream patch is tiny and comes with a test case to track the desired
behavior
(upstream already had tests for the other behavior of this function). Beacuse
this
patch is so small and comes with new tests I think the regression potential
is very
small. Probably the only thing to consider is that new python3.4 code may
have come
to rely on this new backward incompatible behavior. But that would only be
the case
if code specifically looked for the mapping of 'Level %s' % 'stringlevelhere'.

I upgraded to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-
urllib3/1.7.1-1ubuntu3 and checked my Python 3 version:

Actual:

$ python3
Python 3.4.0 (default, Apr 11 2014, 13:05:11)
[GCC 4.8.2] on linux
Type help, copyright, credits or license for more information.

Expected:

$ python3
Python 3.4.2 (default, ???, ???)
[GCC 4.8.2] on linux
Type help, copyright, credits or license for more information.
