[Touch-packages] [Bug 1654448] Re: Dell XPS 13 9350/9360 headphone audio hiss

2019-10-12 Thread Ionut Negru
The same happen with my XPS 13. Since a couple of days I have noticed
this annoying hiss. I use Ubuntu 19.04.

The workaround also fixes the issue for me (amixer -c 0 set 'Headphone
Mic Boost',0 1)

Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version k4.4.0-57-generic.

When headphones are plugged in, there is a clearly audible hiss (white
noise). This is present as soon as the headphones are plugged in, whether
'headphones' or 'headset' are selected from the pop-up box.

Using alsamixer to debug the issue reveals that it is related to
"Headphone Mic Boost" - the default setting is: dB gain 0.00, 0.00. If
  this is changed to:

10.00, 10.00 (one notch up) the hiss disappears.
  20.00, 20.00 cause a louder hiss and
30.00, 30.00 causes an even louder hiss with high frequency audio artifacts.

When the headphones are removed and plugged back in the Headphone Mic
Boost setting returns to dB gain 0 and the problem also returns.

This (problem and workaround) has been reported in the wild:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1678150] Re: Zesty | no video acceleration

2017-03-31 Thread ionut
A workaround fix:

1. install nvidia proprietary driver
2. edit /etc/default/grub and remove nomodeset
3. update-grub / i also executes update-grub-gfxpayload out of curiosity, not
really sure what it does.
4. reboot

it now seems to work again

Bug description:
Hello i recently dropped ubuntu 16.04 and installed zesty beta 2.
from the beginning i had problems with booting the usb stick , that i have
resolved via nomodeset by pressing F6 during the boot. but this has also
happened with 16.04.

The live image is working very well and i had no problems. During my
first boot i had no acceleration or this is what apport is saying ,
the fact is that everything works very slowly, like i have no video
driver. i have also installed nvidia proprietary driver from updates
  but with the same output.

i even played with some parameters from grub but no success.

The good part is that i had finally the idea to boot in recovery mode
  and it works good.

Please let me know if there is anything i cand do.

PS: the apport-bug is from normal boot

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1473599] Re: gdb complains about missing Python module libstdcxx.v6.printers

2015-10-02 Thread Ionut
In case it's ever needed, for the future, the relevant lines that should
be commented are:

if not os.path.basename(os.path.dirname(__file__)).startswith('lib'):
backdirs += 1 # multiarch subdir

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1473599] Re: gdb complains about missing Python module libstdcxx.v6.printers

2015-10-02 Thread Ionut
If anyone is still having this problem (as I just had), I have found
that the solution explained here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-4.8/+bug/1446828 solves
it.

Basically, you have to comment lines 51 and 52, the ones dealing with
multiarch, in /usr/share/gdb/auto-load/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/libstdc++.so.6.0.19-gdb.py

After doing that, pretty printers should work.
