Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 2039149] Re: readelf riscv unknown

2024-01-08 Thread Nico Verrijdt
I must have messed up something somewhere during the assembly of the
subjected ELF64.
I just tried another ELF64 assembly and got the result as wished.

Thank you and enjoy your day.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2047989] [NEW] Sticky Keys accessibility feature ctrl-shift behaves differently from ctrl-alt; ctrl-shift causes both to get stuck on

2024-01-03 Thread Nico Williams
Public bug reported:

(Sticky Keys is an accessibility feature. Settings->Typing Assist
(AccessX)->Sticky Keys. Sticky Keys is not just for the disabled!
Sticky Keys is a feature that helps prevent or attenuate repetitive
stress injuries (RSI) by helping the user avoid problematic "deviations"
of the hand/wrist/fingers. I use Sticky Keys to prevent RSI. I don't
always use Sticky Keys as intended -- sometimes I press and release
modifier keys as intended, sometimes I hold them down, and this is
really a matter of training, but also that combinations which do not
hurt are combinations I'm willing to hold rather than press and
release.)

With `Disable if two keys are pressed together` disabled, the way sticky
keys is supposed to work is that I should be able to hit and hold one or
more modifier keys and then some non-modifier key, and it should work as
if sticky keys were disabled (assuming none of the modifier keys had
been hit and released just before)[*], however when the two modifier
keys are ctrl and shift (or maybe just when one of them is shift?) the
modifier keys are then stuck on, as if each of them had been pressed and
released twice. This does not happen when using, say, ctrl and alt.
I've not checked all modifier key combinations, so do please check for
others.

Note that I can't tell what package delivers Sticky Keys, therefore I
might be opening this bug under the incorrect package. It might be
gnome-desktop, or who knows what. It's not always easy for users to
tell.

[*] This is technically a misuse of sticky keys, but the reason `Disable
if two keys are pressed together` is configurable is that sticky keys is
a feature one need not use correctly all the time!

  Tested on Ubuntu 22.04.

Since these two packages (libunwind-14 and libunwind-dev) conflict

libgstreamer1.0-dev together, and that's really unfortunate.

I'm not sure which packages should be somehow fixed (if any), so feel

For me Disable Secure Boot and SGX also worked and was able to install it on my
nuc pc.
I switched back to fedora 36 as there is no need to disable the Disable Secure
Boot and SGX to run or install Fedora.

NUC7i5 - No HBR, unstable EAC3 audio passthrough on Ubuntu 20.10

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Software is X11-based stable/up-to-date Kodi v18 on up-to-date Ubuntu 20.10.
Hardware is an Intel NUC7i5BNH (Kaby Lake), latest available BIOS and latest
available HDMI/LS-PCON firmware. The AVR is a Denon AVR-2310. The TV is an old
Toshiba 1080p LCD. I make sure that the TV and AVR are turned on first so that
EDID is available.

When playing a file with HBR audio bitstreams (DTS-HD, Dolby TrueHD) I get no
audio.
When playing a file with EAC3/DD+ audio bitstreams, I get very regular
dropouts.
When I play a file with stereo/DTS/DD bitstreams, all is fine.
When I play an audio file with 6 channels of LPCM, all is fine.

I can play the same files with HBR or EAC3 audio on the same machine from a
Windows install without any issue, right out of the box using the built-in
software, using the default configs, which rules out hardware incompatibilities.
I've spent some time with the Kodi guys who have come to the conclusion that
the issue was not with them but higher in the software stack. So here I am!
History here: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=359371

I've also filed a bug with Intel, but I'm not getting any traction there.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1909857] [NEW] NUC7i5 - No HBR, unstable EAC3 audio passthrough on Ubuntu 20.10

2021-01-02 Thread Nico
Public bug reported:

Software is X11-based stable/up-to-date Kodi v18 on up-to-date Ubuntu 20.10.
Hardware is an Intel NUC7i5BNH (Kaby Lake), latest available BIOS and latest
available HDMI/LS-PCON firmware. The AVR is a Denon AVR-2310. The TV is an old
Toshiba 1080p LCD. I make sure that the TV and AVR are turned on first so that
EDID is available.

When playing a file with HBR audio bitstreams (DTS-HD, Dolby TrueHD) I get no
audio.
When playing a file with EAC3/DD+ audio bitstreams, I get very regular dropouts.

Must
be the holydays!
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/2861

Any help is welcomed.

I'm no dev, but I know my way around Linux and systems, and I am not
afraid of testing things and reporting data. Compiling code is usually
something I can do, with instructions if it's less run-of-the-mill.

Thanks in advance!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1858092] Re: Network Manager not saving OpenVPN password

Can confirm that, after updating from the official repositories (Kubuntu
19.10), saving passwords "for this user only" works as intended again.
Thanks!

network-manager no longer correctly saves VPN passwords

  [test case]

on a 19.10 (or later) system, configure a VPN with network-manager and
provide a password that it should save. On next connection, it will
  prompt for a password again.

  [regression potential]

as this adjusts how n-m handles connections with secrets/passwords,
any regression would likely cause secrets to fail to be stored for
later use, and/or failure to correctly use the secrets at all to setup
  the connection.

  [scope]

This is needed only in eoan.

  The patch:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/commit/cf557bf06f344bdbcd775dce35daa42335c645d7
is included in the 1.20.6 release:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/issues/230#note_283402

focal-proposed currently has version 1.20.8, so this patch is already
  included in focal.

This bug was introduced after version 1.18.2:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/issues/230#note_235976

disco-updates has version 1.60.0, so this patch is not needed in disco

Is there an estimation when this will go from proposed to release? I'm
working around it by looking up the connections' UID in the Network-
Manager configuration and manually adding the corresponding entries in
KWallet as of now..

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1822754] [NEW] Chrome and other programs not resizing on HiDPI and Non-Hidpi setup

2019-04-02 Thread Nico Jakob
Public bug reported:

To try the new support for EGLStreams and Wayland I have directly tried some
programs to see how this performs. Unfortunately there are multiple problems:
Chrome does not use GPU hardware acceleration anymore (I get huge CPU spikes
while scrolling on normal pages).
Also the automatic resizing when a program is moved from one display to another
only works with system applications such as settings, terminal etc. The
programs then are still scaled 2x on the Non-HIDPI screen.
I am running the latest NVIDIA Drivers with 418.56.
Is there a fix for this behaviour?

Best
Nicolas

Hi Simon,

I can't verify whether this bug is still open as I've since adopted a
different distribution. Thanks anyway!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1624317] Re: systemd-resolved breaks VPN with split-horizon DNS

2017-08-10 Thread Nico R
Can confirm: #82 does the trick. Thanks Nicholas, you're awesome!

Let's hope this goes into 17.04 release or at least in zesty-updates.

systemd-resolved breaks VPN with split-horizon DNS

Status in NetworkManager:
  Unknown
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

Status in network-manager source package in Zesty:

Status in network-manager source package in Artful:

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * NetworkManager incorrectly handles dns-priority of the VPN-like
connections, which leads to leaking DNS queries outside of the VPN
  into the general internet.

   * Upstream has resolved this issue in master and 1.8 to correctly
configure any dns backends with negative dns-priority settings.

  [Test Case]

  #FIXME#

   * detailed instructions how to reproduce the bug

   * these should allow someone who is not familiar with the affected
package to reproduce the bug and verify that the updated package fixes
 the problem.

  #FIXME#

  [Regression Potential]

   * If this issue is changed DNS resolution will change, for certain
queries, to go via VPN rather than general internet. And therefore,
one may get new/different results or even loose access to
resolve/access certain parts of the interent depending on what the DNS
server on VPN chooses to respond to.

  [Other Info]

   * Original bug report

I use a VPN configured with network-manager-openconnect-gnome in which
a split-horizon DNS setup assigns different addresses to some names
inside the remote network than the addresses seen for those names from
outside the remote network. However, systemd-resolved often decides
to ignore the VPN’s DNS servers and use the local network’s DNS
servers to resolve names (whether in the remote domain or not),
  breaking the split-horizon DNS.

This related bug, reported by Lennart Poettering himself, was closed with the
current Fedora release at the time reaching EOL:
  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1151544

Also, since dnsmasq appears not to be used anymore in favor of
systemd-resolved, the "old" workaround of commenting out the
dns=dnsmasq
line in NetworkManager.conf isn't applicable anymore.

Status in openvpn package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  [Triage Notes]

This bug can no longer make progress. Please see comment 50 for
  details and further instructions.

  [Original Description]

When IPv4 Method is set to Automatic VPN, DNS address recieved from
OpenVPN server do not update resolv.conf.

This can be achieved when using a standard openvpn config file by
  adding the lines:

  script-security 2
  up /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf
  down /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf

In Network-manager there seems to be no option to run connection
specific scripts and the DNS data from the server is ignored.

  Ubuntu 13.04
  Network-manager 0.9.8.0-0ubuntu6

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1666318] Re: Disconnecting and reconnecting docking station breaks DNS

2017-02-20 Thread Nico Orrù
If it helps, commenting out/removing

  # dns=dnsmasq

from

 /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf

makes the problem go away.

Title:
apt https method decodes redirect locations and sends them to the
  destination undecoded.

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:

Status in apt source package in Xenial:
  Fix Released
Status in apt source package in Yakkety:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Downloads via HTTPS fail if the URL contains a space (before yakkety only if
there is no redirect from a previous space-free https URL). This breaks
packages like ttf-mscorefonts-installer and various third party hosters.

  [Test case]
  Install/Upgrade apt-transport-https, that's where the fix is.

  Check that

  /usr/lib/apt/apt-helper download-file

http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/repo/pool/free/ardour4_4.7.0-1kxstudio1_i386.deb
  test.deb

can successfully download the file (or at least start downloading it)
and does not fail early with a 505 HTTP version not supported error
  message.

This problem does not occur with that file on xenial, as it first
redirects to an https URI without a space which then redirects to an
HTTPS uri with a space (http w/o space -> https w/o space -> https w/
space). In xenial, https->https redirects where handled internally by
  curl.

Another test (applicable to xenial) is to install ttf-mscorefonts-
  installer.

  [Regression potential]
  The added code is:
     Uri.Path = QuoteString(Uri.Path, "+~ ");

Some servers might not like + or ~ being quoted. We use the same
quoting call for the http method too, though, so it seems highly
  unlikely to cause an issue.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1651923] Re: apt https method decodes redirect locations and sends them to the destination undecoded.

2016-12-29 Thread Nico Orrù
Good news, thanks! Would it be possible to schedule a backported patch
to 16.10? The problem is significant in the general case.

This is nonsense and makes me wonder if I should switch back to Windows
instead.

Trolling intended.

Bug description:
(part of bug 1431774). During shutdown, D-Bus stops too early. In
particular, it stops before NetworkManager and remote-fs.target, so
that any network unmount will cause errors and hang the boot. This
  can be seen with

  $ journalctl -b -1 | egrep 'Stop.*(D-Bus|Network M|Remote F)'

A quick workaround is to add After=dbus.service to
  /lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service's [Unit] section, but this
should be fixed in a more general fashion.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1649728] Re: package udev 204-5ubuntu20.20 failed to install/upgrade: pre-dependency problem - not installing udev

2016-12-14 Thread Nico van der Horn
Today I went on-site and concluded that the boot hung on a problem with
cryptswap1.
At this machine we do not need swap-encryption, so I changed in a standard
setup.
This solved the problem of not completing the boot-sequence.
In addition I had to fix a few minor problems, like kernel version did not
changed.
Case closed, thanks for your time.

Given the URL in the text, I landed here.

At the next choice, I selected to continue, effectively ignoring more
problems with udev ?

I tried to recover by "apt-get -f install", later "apt full-upgrade" and it
looked ok.
Unfortunately after reboot the server responded only to ping, as far as I could
see nothing else.

I am working remotely with the server of my client, they start working
at 08:00 CET.

Going for a short sleep now, as I'm afraid having to travel to the
client and continue on-site.

If you can provide me with hits, I would apreciate that a lot.

Thanks in advance,

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1451728] Re: [master] kde-config-telepathy-accounts package install error

2016-06-27 Thread Nico
You can use dpkg --remove. It'll complain that you can't uninstall
package $X because $Y depends on it; when that happens, try dpkg
--remove $Y (and so on, until it doesn't complain anymore).

You won't be able to install the package you needed but at least apt-get
should be usable again.

to be to wipe the whole installation and hope you don't install the

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1556624] [NEW] mmanon: does not work when IP starts with 9 or when IP is not followed by space or colon

2016-03-13 Thread Nico
Public bug reported:

The mmanon plugin as included in Ubuntu 14.04 trusty (package version
7.4.4-1ubuntu2.6) does not always work correctly. There are two notable
conditions in which the plugin does not behave as expected:

a) an IP address starts with '9'. For details see the upstream bug
report: . The bug is
fixed in this commit:

b) an IP address is followed by a character that is not a space (" ") or
a colon (":"). This for example breaks mmanon functionality for postfix,
where IP addresses are usually followed by the "]" character. This can
be fixed by merging this commit:

2014-10-16 Thread Nico
I can confirm that this bug does not occur when you disable dnsmasq for
NetworkManager.

However, I wanted to add how you can do so:
Open /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf in an editor and change
dns=dnsmasq
to this:
#dns=dnsmasq

Then, restart NetworkManager:
sudo service network-manager restart

Title:
network manager openvpn dns push data not updating resolv.conf

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “openvpn” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When IPv4 Method is set to Automatic VPN, DNS address recieved from
OpenVPN server do not update resolv.conf.

This can be achieved when using a standard openvpn config file by
  adding the lines:

  script-security 2
  up /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf
  down /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf

In Network-manager there seems to be no option to run connection
specific scripts and the DNS data from the server is ignored.

  Ubuntu 13.04
  Network-manager 0.9.8.0-0ubuntu6
