I tried it recently with xubuntu 18.04.1 and the gui still crashes. I uninstalled gdebi and went back to dpkg from the command line. I will try again on the next LTS release. I just did a clean install of Xubuntu 18.04.1 and then installed gdebi and its frontend. The interface crashes for me so it hasn't been fixed.
