  Tried to use ubuntu-bug to generate a report regarding not detecting
  external microphone but it hang while displaying "Collecting problem
  information". (bar was animating but nothing happend after 20
  minutes.)

  Then I tried "sudo ubuntu-bug" too se if that made a difference and it
  crashed pulseaudio.

Ubuntu 14.10 (utopic) reached end-of-life on July 23, 2015.
