I switched from firefox usage to chrome and that seemed to help. the last day I was using firefox, this lockup happened 3 times in one morning. normally after my screen sleeps from inactivity. but sometimes while I'm actively using the laptop. after 5 days of no issues in using chrome, it happened again. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1408038] Re: Unity/compiz freeze but mouse still moves
Daniel Manley, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.11). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags removed: apport-collected ** Tags added: bios-outdated-2.11 ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1408038 Title: Unity/compiz freeze but mouse still moves Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: random lockups where the mouse still works. fiddling with tty1 has mixed results -- killall on compiz to avoid a hard reboot would work for a bit, but after a couple of hits of that, things just went weird in the way of it just giving me the stock orange background image, or performing very slowly. apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: random lockups where the mouse still works. fiddling with tty1 has mixed results -- killall on compiz to avoid a hard reboot would work for a bit, but after a couple of hits of that, things just went weird in the way of it just giving me the stock orange background image, or performing very slowly. I've downloaded the compiz config app and disabled animations. hoping that will avoid the problem. perhaps similar to bug 339982 Acer E1-510-2827 Linux danwork 3.16.0-28-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Fri Dec 12 17:37:40 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+7ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.16.0-28.38-generic 3.16.7-ckt1 Uname: Linux 3.16.0-28-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.14.7-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true Date: Tue Jan 6 12:22:43 2015 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: utopic DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Atom Processor Z36xxx/Z37xxx Series Graphics Display [8086:0f31] (rev 0c) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:0845] InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-12-05 (31 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn - Release amd64 (20141022.1) MachineType: Acer E1-510 ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_CA:en TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_CA.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.16.0-28-generic.efi.signed root=/dev/mapper/fedora-root ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 12/25/2013 dmi.bios.vendor: Insyde Corp. dmi.bios.version: V2.05 dmi.board.asset.tag: Type2 - Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: E1-510 dmi.board.vendor: Acer dmi.board.version: Type2 - A01 Board Version dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: Chassis Manufacturer dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnInsydeCorp.:bvrV2.05:bd12/25/2013:svnAcer:pnE1-510:pvrV0.07:rvnAcer:rnE1-510:rvrType2-A01BoardVersion:cvnChassisManufacturer:ct10:cvrChassisVersion: dmi.product.name: E1-510 dmi.product.version: V0.07 dmi.sys.vendor: Acer version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.12+14.10.20140918-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.56-1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 10.3.0-0ubuntu3 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 10.3.0-0ubuntu3 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.16.0-1ubuntu1.2 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.9.0-1ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.4.0-2ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.914-1~exp1ubuntu4.1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.11-1ubuntu2 xserver.bootTime: Tue Jan 6 10:23:57 2015 xserver.configfile: default xserver.errors: xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.outputs: product id1072 vendor LGD xserver.version: 2:1.16.0-1ubuntu1.2 + --- + ApportVersion: 2.14.7-0ubuntu8 + Architecture: amd64 + CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' + DistUpgraded: Fresh install + DistroCodename: utopic + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.10 + DistroVariant: ubuntu + ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes + GraphicsCard: + Intel Corporation Atom Processor Z36xxx/Z37xxx Series Graphics Display [8086:0f31] (rev 0c) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) +Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:0845] + InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-12-05 (31 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn - Release amd64 (20141022.1) + MachineType: Acer E1-510 + Package: xorg 1:7.7+7ubuntu2 + PackageArchitecture: amd64 + ProcEnviron: + LANGUAGE=en_CA:en + TERM=linux + PATH=(custom, no user) + LANG=en_CA.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.16.0-28-generic.efi.signed root=/dev/mapper/fedora-root ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.16.0-28.38-generic 3.16.7-ckt1 + Tags: utopic ubuntu + Uname: Linux 3.16.0-28-generic x86_64 +
