Just reckognized that this but is not about output modules but Input/Codec... Sorry, my fault! I can not trigger this bug on my PowerBook 5,6. I get the same "libGL error: failed to load driver: r300"-errors, but the mpeg2 video I tested is played with default settings (video output set so automatic). You can check which output modules are availabe on your machine with "vlc -l | grep -i videooutput": $ vlc -l | grep -i videoausgabe VLC media player 2.2.2 Weatherwax (revision 2.2.2-0-g6259d80) directfb DirectFB-Videoausgabe http://www.directfb.org/ gl OpenGL-Videoausgabe (experimentell) xcb_glxOpenGL GLX Videoausgabe (XCB) aa ASCII-Art-Videoausgabe gles1 Videoausgabe basierend auf OpenGL für Integrierte Systeme xcb_x11X11-Videoausgabe (XCB) yuvYUV-Videoausgabe xcb_xv XVideoausgabe (XCB) caca Farbige ASCII-Art-Videoausgabe gles2 Videoausgabe basierend auf OpenGL für Integrierte Systeme 2 vdummy Dummy-Videoausgabe vdummy Statistiken-Videoausgabe You can test the output modules specifically, e.g. with "vlc -V xcb_xv". On my PowerBook 5,6 directfb shows no picture and gles1 shows a broken picture.
