Title:
sound skips under io load. protocol-native.c: Requesting rewind due to
  end of underrun.

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
The problem appears after upgrading 10.04 to 11.10.

Enclosed are pulseaudio syslog entries produced by running:
  grep -E '(pulseaudio|alsa-sink)' /var/log/syslog > pulseaudio.log

To reproduce the bug, create io load spike by running:
  cat medium_size_file_not_in_filecache > /dev/null

.. while playing song with mplayer or rhythmbox.

I tried changing scheduler to deadline, but it didn't have much effect.
echo "deadline" | sudo tee /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler
echo "deadline" | sudo tee /sys/block/sdb/queue/scheduler
echo "deadline" | sudo tee /sys/block/sdc/queue/scheduler

I get the skipping even if the file played is (most likely) in
filecache. I tried to ensure this by running cat song.flac > /dev/null
  just before playing the song.

  Additional info:
  sjs@zen:[~] $ apt-cache policy pulseaudio
  pulseaudio:
Installed: 1:1.0-0ubuntu3
Candidate: 1:1.0-0ubuntu3
Version table:
   *** 1:1.0-0ubuntu3 0
  500 http://fi.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
