2014-11-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Kaushik, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Just to clarify, the scope of this report is only that the system
crashed, not the various fallout problems resulting from that.

Despite this, could you please clarify how the system crashed?

** Description changed:

- A system crash occured (power failed) and since reboot, mouse isn't
- working. USB is buggy (works sometimes). Unity icons are missing. I use
- a PS/2 mouse.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1073669] Re: Bluetooth won't stay disabled after reboot due to early upstart job

2014-11-29 Thread papukaija

Title:
Bluetooth won't stay disabled after reboot due to early upstart job

Status in rfkill package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Using a Dell XPS 13 with Ubuntu 12.04.

In order to restore RF interfaces to their previous state between
boots, rfkill is run via two Upstart jobs in /etc/init/: rfkill-
store.conf (run while shutting down) and rfkill-restore.conf (run when
starting up). However, while rfkill-restore.conf starts on the Upstart
local-filesystems signal, there is a high probability that the RF kill
switches in /sys/class/rfkill/ still won't yet be populated (i.e.
every time on the Dell XPS 13). This results in behavior like the
  following:

  1. Disable bluetooth via applet.
  2. Reboot.
  3. Login.
  4. Observe bluetooth is re-enabled!

Bluetooth should have stayed disabled, but since the kill switches
weren't present when rfkill-restore was run, the kill switch states
  were not restored.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1330410] Re: All keyboard types in Keyboard layout are not localized during installation

2014-11-29 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Can you please elaborate?

I'm downloading console-setup from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/console-setup/1.70ubuntu9/+build/6047796 which is the current version
published in the archive, and DEBIAN/templates appear to be translated
to me correctly. Rebuilding the package locally here results the same
result.

Can you advise which locale are you running installer and which strings
/ template name appear to not be translated? Is there a translation
available of the untranslated template?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1392083] Re: Black screen after boot screen - fglrx new installed and fixed

2014-11-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Ben, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per
http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/990FX%20Extreme3/?cat=Downloados=BIOS an update
to your BIOS is available (1.70). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

An occasional unpredictable crash in the Unity shell occurs during a
  drag-and-drop operation.

  [Test Case]

Unfortunately it is not possible to reproduce this bug at will.
Apparently is is caused by an uninitialized pointer dereference that
only occurs in a timing-dependent manner.

Running a full autopilot test suite against the Unity desktop shell
  reveals no new regressions.

  [Regression Potential]

The code change effectively adds a test for a null pointer. It is
possible that this might introduce a regression in drag-and-drop
functionality that previously relied on undefined behaviour to work
  when it didn't crash.

  [Other Info]

Fix was released with Ubuntu 14.10 and no new regressions have been
  reported.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Scrolling on the Alt+Tab has invalid behavior:
  - Scrolling down, moves to the previous icon/window
  - Scrolling up, moves to the next icon/window
  - Scrolling left, moves to the next icon/window
  - Scrolling right, moves to the previous icon/window

  [Test case]
  1. Press Alt+Tab
  2. While pressing the keys, use mouse scroll wheel to scroll vertically (and,
if possible, horizontally)

  Expected behavior:
  - Scrolling down, moves to the next icon/window
  - Scrolling up, moves to the previous icon/window
  - Scrolling left, moves to the previous icon/window
  - Scrolling right, moves to the next icon/window

  [Regression potential]
Vertical scrolling code has not been touched by the change, so there's no
possibility to regress in this sense.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369651] Re: libmtp error: Could not send object info when copying content to root MTP folder

2014-11-29 Thread Martin Spacek
I get this Could not send object info error from libmtp on seemingly
random files while copying a large number of files to a subfolder of
Internal storage on my Moto X running CyanogenMod 11 2014-11-28
(ghost), using Thunar in Xubuntu 14.04. On second glance, I think this
is due to the full pathnames of some of the files on the destination
exceeding 255 characters in length. Could use a more informative
message. Does MTP provide more descriptive error codes?

Friends (apart of being deprecated because of some Unsolvable™ technical

would have to add an account by using Unity's equivalent panel.

The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
   libpam-systemd : Depends: systemd (= 208-8ubuntu4) but 204-10ubuntu3 is to
be installed
udev : Breaks: systemd ( 208) but 204-10ubuntu3 is to be installed

I just could not complete the installation. Later on, I tried to

  $sudo apt-get update
  $sudo apt-get dist-ugrade

then, I can successfully install the SDK. Shall we do this before
installing the SDK though I know utopic is still in a developing

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1309535] Re: Running without pam-kwallet installed issues a warning in auth.log

2014-11-29 Thread Alexis Wilke
There is information about KWallet.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/KDE_Wallet

It is marked as optional because it is allowed to fail as it does when
you are running with Gnome (unity uses Gnome by default). So this is not
a bug. You make comment out the lines as shown in #19 but you may regret
it if you switch to KUbuntu one day...

[Touch-packages] [Bug 750585] Re: [FFe] support for making linux-libc-dev coinstallable under multiarch

2014-11-29 Thread Peter Cordes
IDK how this got added to bash-completion. It's already an arch:all
binary package, since it's just shell code.

Ah, I see. False positive from Steve's text search that found:
completions/strace:done 2/dev/null
/usr/include/asm/unistd.h
./completions/strace:
unistd=/usr/include/asm/unistd_32.h
./completions/strace:
unistd=/usr/include/asm/unistd_64.h

All 3 of those files exist on trusty x86_64 with i386 libs installed, so
strace completion should be fine. Closing.

FFe justification: now that multiarch support for runtime libraries in
the base system is available in the archive, the next step in this
process is multiarch coinstallability of -dev packages. Although most
of the remaining work on multiarch -dev can and will take place in ppa
for natty given where we are in the release cycle, any -dev package
tree has at its root linux-libc-dev which is built from the 'linux'
source package - the package which is updated more frequently than any
other by SRU. Rather than trying to keep up with SRUs, or
artificially inflating the version of a linux-libc-dev-only package
build in ppa, it would be welcome if a multiarch-ready linux-libc-dev
could be included in the archive for natty.

Risks: anything that looks directly in /usr/include/asm for headers
will have problems with this change; anything that uses the system
include path from the compiler will not. My best efforts at examining
the archive for this issue (see below for details) have turned up only
four packages in main and universe that are affected: three C library
implementations, and bash-completion. Updating these packages in
concert is manageable (patch for eglibc is ready, patches for the
others are in preparation), but there's always some risk that the text
search on package sources has missed something, and there wouldn't be
room for another full archive rebuild before release to catch other
  breakage.

  Details:
In order to have coinstallable multiarch -dev packages of any sort,
linux-libc-dev first needs to be coinstallable since libc-dev depends on it.
This seems to be straightforward to achieve; only the asm directory needs to be
moved to the multiarch directory path, all the other header files appear to be
(sensibly) architecture-neutral and can be shared between architectures.

The compiler will find /usr/include/triplet/asm for the
corresponding architecture with no problems; I've done a number of
test builds that work just fine this way. The only trouble is with
software that walks the filesystem looking for asm/foo.h includes
instead of trusting the compiler to resolve them. It's unlikely that
software should need to do this since the asm headers should as a rule
not be directly included from userspace anyway, but the chances are
not zero. I didn't expect nearly as many packages to break as did by
the move to /usr/lib/triplet, either, so it seems my faith in the
sanity of upstream build systems is generally misplaced. And I don't
think we have time to discover any resulting issues with another

[Touch-packages] [Bug 608894] Re: dash does not handle ^C trap the same way that bash does

Title:
dash does not handle ^C trap the same way that bash does

Status in dash package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: dash

The problems with making /bin/sh symlink to dash instead of bash are
known (#141481), but I haven't seen this particular problem reported
  yet.

dash and bash process the ^C (INT) signal differently. Try running
the following script (then type ^C) with both bash and dash:

  tint() { echo int; }
  thup() { echo hup; }
  tchld() { echo chld; }
  tterm() { echo term; }
  texit() { echo exit; }

  # trap tint INT
  trap thup HUP
  trap tchld CHLD
  trap tterm TERM
  trap texit EXIT

  echo type ^C...
  sleep 100

bash triggers the EXIT. dash triggers no trap.

If you uncomment the INT trap, bash triggers INT and EXIT, and dash
  triggers INT, CHLD, and EXIT.

I don't know what POSIX dictates or which is correct, I am guessing
that any exit should trigger EXIT (so dash is wrong).

Either way, the shells behave differently, and the difference is
causing problems in existing Ubuntu scripts. (I found it in /usr/bin
  /xeno-test.)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 750585] Re: [FFe] support for making linux-libc-dev coinstallable under multiarch

2014-11-29 Thread Peter Cordes
just saw Steve's earlier comment, apparently the logic to pick the right
unistd_32.h or unistd_64.h was added after that, so this is Fix
Released, not Invalid.

There's now asm/unistd_x32.h as well. AFAICT from poking around in the
kernel source, uname -m should return x86_64 when called from a x86_x32
uname binary. I don't see anything mucking with utsname()-machine,
outside of what I think is just the ia32 handling, not used for x86_x32
userspace (since they still run in long mode, with 64 bit registers.
They just choose not to use addresses that don't fit in 32bits.)

So x86_x32 userspace won't ever get their own unistd.h processed, but
it's minimally different from unistd_64.h, and has to be that way for
the kernel support to be as minimally invasive as it is. The extra
names that unistd_x32.h has that unistd_64.h doesn't is probably not
relevant unless you're trying to debug the glibc wrappers around the
calls that need help, I hope.

You *could* use cpp to get the right unistd.h, but you couldn't just
cpp /usr/include/unistd.h, because that would substitute the
__NR_callname macros that the script is looking for.
