[Touch-packages] [Bug 1735594] Re: [regression] compiz crashes after Mesa upgrade

2018-01-13 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Falk, or anyone else affected,

Accepted mesa into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.4 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, details of your
testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in

[regression] compiz crashes after Mesa upgrade

Status in mesa source package in Artful:

Bug description:
  [Impact]
When I use the Unity session I automatically get logged out under these
conditions:

When I hover with my mouse over any icon of the sidebar.
When I press the alt key.
When I press the super key.

running dmesg after this unwanted logout happens I get following
  information:

  compiz[10616]: segfault at 0 ip 7fbca309feeb sp 7fff5f59a4d0
  error 4 in i965_dri.so[7fbca2af6000+7e4000]

This is caused by a mesa upgrade, which added a patch for bug #1727401. The
crasher is reproduced on:
  - gen4 / gen5 Intel
  - if using modesetting X driver, like when xserver-xorg-video-intel is not
installed, or the HWE stack is installed (xserver-xorg-core-hwe-16.04 defaults
to modesetting)

  [Test case]
Log in to Unity, open the dash or try to log out etc. Compiz shouldn't crash.

  [Regression potential]
The backported patches need to be tested, here for regressions and on 1727401
that they fix the original bug (again).

Best to test on a wide array of Intel HW:
  gen4 (965GM/GM45/G45)
  gen5 (Ironlake)
  gen6 (Sandy Bridge)
gen7 (Bay Trail, Ivy Bridge, Haswell)
  gen8 (Braswell, Broadwell)
gen9 (Apollo Lake, Skylake, Gemini Lake, Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake)

New style permitnonkernelfacility imklog option inside module()
  doesn't work

Status in Rsyslog:
  Unknown
Status in rsyslog package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
artful 8.16.0-1ubuntu5 (which is way behind upstream and debian, btw)

There are two ways to load the imklog module and pass it an option
  (PermitNonKernelFacility in this case).

  a) legacy
  $ModLoad imklog
  $KLogPermitNonKernelFacility on

  b) "new style", also referred to as "v6+":
  module(load="imklog" permitnonkernelfacility="on")

For a while the ubuntu package was using a mix: loading the module
with the new style, but setting the option via the legacy method. In
bug #1531622 this was fixed for yakkety+.

Problem is, upstream isn't honouring the new style option setting due
to a bug of its own: https://github.com/rsyslog/rsyslog/issues/477

  With the legacy config:
  #module(load="imklog" permitnonkernelfacility="on")
  $ModLoad imklog
  $KLogPermitNonKernelFacility on

I get kernel messages in /var/log/syslog:
  root@nsn7:~# grep andreas-was-here /var/log/syslog
  root@nsn7:~# echo andreas-was-here > /dev/kmsg
  root@nsn7:~# grep andreas-was-here /var/log/syslog
  Jul 12 16:46:33 nsn7 kernel: [27774.476193] andreas-was-here
  root@nsn7:~#

But with this new v6 config style:
  module(load="imklog" permitnonkernelfacility="on") # provides kernel logging
support
  #$ModLoad imklog
  #$KLogPermitNonKernelFacility on

The text doesn't show up in /var/log/syslog. That's the upstream bug.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1735594] Re: [regression] compiz crashes after Mesa upgrade

2018-01-13 Thread Mohammad Reza
Proposed update fixed the issue on an old Intel 1st gen Core i5-M450
with integrated Ironlake graphics

Title:
[regression] compiz crashes after Mesa upgrade

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed
Status in mesa source package in Xenial:
  Fix Committed
Status in mesa source package in Artful:
  Fix Committed

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1743015] Re: Suppor for SystemD 236+ in 18.04

2018-01-13 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for reporting.

I see that systemd 236 has been packaged in Debian. However, the Ubuntu
package contains some Ubuntu-specific packages it looks like this will
need a manual merge.

SystemD 236+ seems to add support for writing to files from unit

This is very helpful when migrating legacy logging integrations from

Title:
[regression] compiz crashes after Mesa upgrade

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed
Status in mesa source package in Xenial:
  Fix Committed
Status in mesa source package in Artful:
  Fix Committed

Pulseaudio: please compile with support for sox resampler

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The pulseaudio package in Ubuntu is compiled without support for the
sox resampling methods (soxr-mq, soxr-hq, soxr-vhq), although they are
mentioned in the manpages of pulse-daemon.conf(5).

Please consider compiling pulseaudio with sox support. Thanks!

EDIT: The debian packages actually *are* compiled with libsoxr-dev. What is
the reason to drop that support in Ubuntu?

Bug description:
After upgrading from Vivid to Wily, pages using the "Ubuntu light" font
actually renders with a weight heavier than the regular one in web pages.
This happens with Chrome/Chromium and also the Ubuntu browser.

After manually reinstalling the 0.80-0ubuntu6 version from Vivid (in
place of 0.83-0ubuntu1), the issue is fixed.

See the attached screenshot showing the result seen browing
  https://www.google.com/fonts#UsePlace:use/Collection:Ubuntu

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10
  Package: ttf-ubuntu-font-family 0.83-0ubuntu1
  ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.2.0-17.21-generic 4.2.3
  Uname: Linux 4.2.0-17-generic x86_64

  PackageArchitecture: all
  SourcePackage: ubuntu-font-family-sources
UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to wily on 2015-10-31 (0 days ago)

IMPACT: Ubuntu Light font renders incorrectly for all 15.10 users
which impacts the usability and visual design.

The new version of font package (0.831) corrects the relationship
between Light and Medium weight to follow the commonly used naming
  standards:

  Ubuntu Light Light Light Italic
  UbuntuRegular Italic BoldBold Italic
  Ubuntu Medium Medium Medium Italic
  Ubuntu Condensed Regular
Ubuntu Mono Regular Italic BoldBold Italic

TEST CASE: in 15.10, go to
  https://www.google.com/fonts#UsePlace:use/Collection:Ubuntu

If the Light weight renders heavier than Normal weight, the bug is in
  place

  REGRESSION POTENTIAL

0.831 was tested by manually running in 15.10 and no regression was
noticed, while the bug was fixed. The potential for regression is
  small.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1725863] Re: Logitech G930 drops connection and reconnects in 17.10 (But not in 17.04)

2018-01-13 Thread Luis Alvarado
Hi Daniel, today I was able to start testing because there was an issue
with the Nvidia driver once going to the 4.15 kernel version. So today I
received the Intel microcode updates + Nvidia 390 which is compatible
with 4.15 so after seeing that, I installed the 4.17 RC7 as you
proposed.

I have to say, it is working correctly "for now". I would like to do a
longer test if that is possible with you. For example a 100 hour test,
which means that since I use this about 5 hours a day for client
meetings, and about 2 hours for gaming, it would be around 2 weeks of
test so I can let you know with a final result what the outcome is.

For now, I have not had the following errors:

1. Audio cutting in and out
2. No kernel or dmesg errors of any type. It actually showed like this when
connnecting the dongle.

[   18.167592] logitech-hidpp-device 0003:046D:4069.000A: HID++ 4.5 device

v1.01 Device [Logitech Logitech G930 Headset] on usb-:00:14.0-3/input3

So everything looking smooth so far for the past hour. Give me if
possible till the end of a 2 week test to confirm everything.

simply drops connection. It always reconnects but when doing a
recording, a meeting, listening to music or a movie it simply drops
the connection for 1 to 3 second. This happens several times an hour.
If it helps, it was not happening in 17.04 (Never happened in more
than 200+ hours of using the headset).

[regression] compiz crashes after Mesa upgrade

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1735594] Re: [regression] compiz crashes after Mesa upgrade

2018-01-13 Thread a_b_j_q
Running an Acer Aspire 5332 with 16.04 pretty much a fresh install from
last week.

The patch did fix the problem, eventually, but on the first boot none of
the X clients connected to the display, so all I had was a mouse
pointer.

logged in via Alt-F1 console and ran an Xterm with :0 DISPLAY env var,
but that didn't connect (although it showed no errors on stderr).

Then rebooted once more, and it all started working OK.

So - if it doesn't work first time, you might want to try another
reboot.

P.S. love all the "dependency" problems above - NOT - oh for the good
old days where libraries had fixed API's and you could mix and match
different version.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1735594] Re: [regression] compiz crashes after Mesa upgrade

2018-01-13 Thread Johanna
16.04.03 64 bits
Intel® Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2390 @ 1.86GHz × 2
ASUS Notebook X51L

I followed these instructions to install libgl1-mesa-dri/xenial-proposed step
by step:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/992571/gui-unity-crashing-in-16-04-lts-after-updates-2018-01-04-compiz-segfaults
and it failed...

Installing stock hwe stack on 16.04 worked for me (#30). Thanks a lot!

I couldn't use my sidebar. When I hovered with my mouse over the sidebar
or clicked on one of the icons everything disappeared except for the
background picture and then the windows and sidebar came back
immediately but no program was opened. I also could not
reboot/shutdown/logout using the graphic menu.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1730657] Re: systemd don't find userservice- and usertimer-files

2018-01-13 Thread darkrain42
I'm not sure what (else) changed between 17.04 and 17.10, but this seems
to be an ordering issue between `systemd --user` and ecryptfs mounting
the decrypted $HOME.

Reordering pam_ecryptfs to occur before pam_systemd in /etc/pam.d
/common-session appears to address the issue for me. (Note that I
_think_ the order is unchanged between 17.04 and 17.10.)

I independently came to the same conclusion as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ecryptfs/+bug/1734290, which was to assign a
higher priority (e.g. 1) for ecryptfs's pam-config, which seems to be
sufficient.

Title:
[regression] compiz crashes after Mesa upgrade

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed
Status in mesa source package in Xenial:
  Fix Committed
Status in mesa source package in Artful:
  Fix Committed

  There are 3 interlocking issues:
A - mirror networks may be out of sync with each other (e.g. a file named on
one mirror may no longer exist, or may not yet exist, on another mirror)
B - updating files on a single mirror is not atomic - and even small windows
of inconsistency will, given enough clients, cause headaches.
C - caches exacerbate race conditions - when one happens, until the cached
data expires, all clients of the cache will suffer from the race

Solving this requires one of several things:
   - file system transactions
   - an archive format that requires only weakly ordered updates to the files
at particular urls with the assumption that only one file may be observed to
change at a time (because a lookup of file A, then B, may get a cache miss on A
and a cache hit on B, so even if all clients strictly go A, then B, updates may
still see old files when paths are reused).
   - super robust clients that repeatedly retry with progressively less cache
friendly headers until they have a consistent view. (This is very tricky to do).

It may be possible to do a tweak to the apt repository format though,
which would allow publishing a race-free format in parallel with the
existing layout, while clients migrate. To be safe against issue (A)
the mirror network would need some care around handling of dns round-
robin mirrors [to minimise the situation where referenced data is not
available], but this should be doable - or alternatively clients doing
'apt-get update' may need to be willing to retry to accommodate round-
  robin skew.

What would such an archive format look like?
It would have only one well known file name (InRelease), which would be
internally signed. Rather than signing e.g. Packages.gz, it would sign a
uniquely named packages and sources file - e.g. Packages-$HASH.gz or
Packages-$serialno.gz.

Backwards compatibility is achieved by using the same filenames for
deb's and the like. We need to keep writing Packages.gz though, and
Releases, until we no longer worry about old apt clients. We can
optimise disk space a little by making Packages.gz a symlink to a
Packages-$HASH.gz (and so on for Sources..), but it may be simpler and
less prone to unexpected behaviour to keep using regular files.

  tl;dr
   * Unique file names for all unique file content with one exception
   * InRelease, a self-signed file that provides hashes and names the index
files (Packages, Sources, Translations etc)
   * Coexists with existing archive layout

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1385611] Re: Laptop charger keeps disconnecting then re-connecting

2018-01-13 Thread Ali Devrim OĞUZ
My problem is similar. I haven't had this issue before. The charger
keeps disconnecting and reconnecting at random intervals when the
battery is full (and makes this annoying clicking noise, the sound of
plugging a socket into a wall). This doesn't happen when the battery is
charging and pc runs perfectly with the battery completely removed. It
also doesn't happen in Windows 10. My system is Ubuntu 17.10 (x64)
kernel: 4.13.0-25-generic #29-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 8 21:14:41 UTC 2018
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I am pretty much certain that my charger is working correctly.

I'm not sure this problem is also related with the kde-workspace
(Ubuntu) package. My machine runs on Unity 8.

The lshw output of my system(This is while battery removed):
