[Touch-packages] [Bug 1982553] Re: Search domains not working after upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04

2022-08-25 Thread Lukas Märdian
Thanks for the feedback! I'm closing it "wontfix" then. Please re-open
if you feel like this still is an issue in Ubuntu's default sd-resolved
setup.

Bug description:
  Hello,

  After upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04, I noticed that search domains are not
  working anymore.

  Either I configure search domains via netplan or with graphical "nm-
  connection-editor", this is not taken into account when resolving
  domain names.

  For instance if I configure "domain.com" in search domains list,
  looking for "host" does not look for "host.domain.com". This is
  confirmed with a wireshark capture. Consequently if I want to connect
  with SSH to host.domain.com, I have to type the entire url.

  In Ubuntu 20.04 this works correctly. With a packet capture I can see
  one domain lookup for each of my search domains configured.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1982553] Re: Search domains not working after upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04

2022-08-25 Thread Lukas Märdian
It's interesting that for both of you the output of "resolvctl" shows
"resolv.conf mode: foreign", which is non-default and unsupported by
Ubuntu. It should be using "stub" mode.

/etc/resolv.conf should be a symlink to /run/systemd/resolve/stub-
resolv.conf in order to be managed by sd-resolved. But it seems to be
managed by a different tool on your system.

Can you please revert to the default, e.g. using:
$ ls -la /etc/resolv.conf
$ mv /etc/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf.BAK
$ ln -s /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf
$ systemctl restart systemd-resolved
$ resolvectl

And report back if this improves the situation for you?

Chile is delaying the start of Daylight Saving Time (DST) by one week
this year [1],[2].

DST timezone in Chile will start on midnight of September 11th; and will
end on April 1st, 2023.

Debian's 2022c-1 and 2022b-1 versions of tzdata contain the fix for
this.

Upstream commit :

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1982553] Re: Search domains not working after upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04

Hello,

It also solves the problem for me, great !
I did not change anything to /etc/resolv.conf myself, so yes I suppose other
people upgrading to 22.04 may notice this issue too.

Have a good day

  Analysis:

  regressions on riscv64 (caused by enabling the tests) are:

  abseil
  adsys
  colord
  dovecot
  glib-networking
  glibc
  gnome-bluetooth3
  gnome-control-center

  [UBUNTU 22.04] BINUTILS: Adding new platform name IBM z16

Status in Ubuntu on IBM z Systems:
  Fix Committed
Status in binutils package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in binutils source package in Jammy:
  Fix Committed
Status in binutils source package in Kinetic:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  SRU Justification:

  [Impact]

   * As of today the architectural (level) name 'arch14' is used
 as CPU name for the new IBM z16 system.

   * The real name 'z16' couldn't be used until officially announced.

   * That happened meanwhile, hence we can now add and use the real
  name.

  [Test Plan]

   * Check if the same (proper) opcodes are detected on an IBM z16
 system with and without the patch.
 Since only the identification and name of a z16 system was modified.

   * Or the simplest test is probably to check
 (after having 'binutils' installed on an Ubuntu 22.04 s390x system)
 if not only:
 'as -m64 -march=arch14 --target-help'
 but also:
 'as -m64 -march=z16 --target-help'
 succeeds and leads to the same output.
 (As it does for '-march=arch13' and '-march=arch15'.)

  [Where problems could occur]

   * Issues could happen if the conditional statement that look
 for architectural / CPU name are paired wrongly, since:

   * 'z16' belongs to 'arch14', 'z15' to 'arch13', etc.

   * If these pairs are not handled correctly,
 or the identification is erroneous
 a wrong system might be identified and wrong instructions used etc.

  [Other]

   * This is a hardware enablement SRU to enhance the IBM z16 support.

  __

  After the announcement support for the official machine name z16 has
  been added to binutils. Please consider picking up the following patch
  from 2.37 branch:

  commit e24d2a2d11008aa363366c1087219f3e3405782a
  (origin/binutils-2_37-branch, 2.37)

  IBM zSystems: Add support for z16 as CPU name.

  So far z16 was identified as arch14. After the machine has been
  announced we can now add the real name.

  (cherry picked from commit 69341966def7f6551bc4452684136831d6a6941c)

 ppc64_elf_size_stubs for use by ppc64_elf_build_stubs,
 section/offset pairs need to be kept.

  [Test Plan]

   * Build and run the official (make) check:
 git clone git://sourceware.org/git/glibc.git
 mkdir build && cd build
 ../glibc/configure --prefix=/usr && make -j8 && make check

  [Where problems could occur]

   * In case relr_addr is not replaced everywhere it's deletion in
 elf64-ppc.c can cause problems, which will mainly occur at build time.

   * The relr section/offset array may lead to problems if the array is not
 properly handled or used.

   * The rewrite of append_relr_off may cause issues due to wrong allocs
 erroneous pointer arithmetic or array handling.

   * The entirely new sort_relr function may introduce new code issues
 or performance issues.

   * The adjustments of ppc64_elf_size_stubs and ppc64_elf_build_stubs to
 the new relr code could be done wrong
 in which case the linker support is still not working.

   * But the patch was discussed at the upstream mailing list:
 https://sourceware.org/pipermail/binutils/2022-March/thread.html#119921

   * and is limited to ppc, and even to file 'elf64-ppc.c'.

  ---Problem Description---
  Latest glibc uses DT_RELR relocations, but linker support is incomplete as of
binutils-2.38-3ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 22.04. It lacks the following fix integrated
into the upstream 2.38 branch:

  PowerPC64 DT_RELR relative reloc addresses

https://sourceware.org/git/?p=binutils-gdb.git;a=commit;h=e4a35c7319628045302d4c597cb27f1b0a08c858

  As mentioned in the binutils mailing list when this patch was discussed, this
fixes several glibc regressions:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1981807] Re: qt5-network openssl3 armhf does not support tls1.3

2022-08-25 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
A few days ago I asked on #ubuntu-security about it and was told that it's
better to make a non-security SRU upload for it:
https://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2022/08/22/%23ubuntu-security.html#t12:01

So I uploaded it, and now it's waiting in unapproved queue for a release team
member review:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jammy/+queue?queue_state=1

  libqt5network5/jammy,now 5.15.3+dfsg-2 armhf
  libssl3/jammy-updates,jammy-security,now 3.0.2-0ubuntu1.6 armhf

  the qt5 armhf version shipped with ubuntu jammy has a regression in
  tls1.3 support (simply missing in runtime).

  openssl supports tls1.3, so the underlying library works.
  x86_64 is obviously not affected
  the short sample applications writes -1 on armhf, 15 on x86_64 (unknown
protocol vs tls1.3)

  QSslSocket* s = new QSslSocket();
  QSslConfiguration cfg = s->sslConfiguration();
  cfg.setProtocol(QSsl::TlsV1_3OrLater);
  s->setSslConfiguration(cfg);
  s->connectToHostEncrypted("tls13-enabled.server",443);
  s->waitForConnected();
  printf("%d\n",s->sessionProtocol());

  marking it as security since the most secure tls protocol is not used
  on some platforms

Bug description:
  SRU: update python3.10 to the 3.10.5 release in 22.04 LTS

  we are doing a test rebuild of 22.04 main to check for regressions.

  test rebuilds at

https://people.canonical.com/~ginggs/ftbfs-report/test-rebuild-20220728-jammy-jammy.html

https://people.canonical.com/~ginggs/ftbfs-report/test-rebuild-20220728-jammy-gcc-jammy.html

  the first one is the reference test rebuild, the second one the
  rebuild using updated binutils, GCC and python packages.

  Analysis:

  regressions on riscv64 (caused by enabling the tests) are:

  abseil
  adsys
  colord
  dovecot
  glib-networking
  glibc
  gnome-bluetooth3
  gnome-control-center
  google-perftools
  json-glib
  libfprint
  libgdata
  memcached
  mir
  openvswitch
  ovn
  pmdk
  power-profiles-daemon
  strace
  swtpm
  vim

  devscripts is not a regression, introduced by a custom dpkg-
  buildpackage wrapper.

  binutils and python3-stdlib-extensions are superseded which are part
  of the planned updates.

Not like the commit ID you shared for MM and libmibm, the libqmi commit ID is
not a version bump commit, can we use a911f6874493a0e6a567cecf4582584312cd8d23?
or the next version bump?

Please do share if you have any further inputs.

Thanks and Best Regards,

I believe the following upstream PR should fix the issue:
https://github.com/lxc/lxc/pull/4181

I'll be testing a patched version shortly and will post a debdiff if it
pans out.

I have a version with the last attached patch in my ppa. This version works for
me.
Is there a change we get a SRU for this? Who would make that request?

  libqt5network5/jammy,now 5.15.3+dfsg-2 armhf
  libssl3/jammy-updates,jammy-security,now 3.0.2-0ubuntu1.6 armhf

  the qt5 armhf version shipped with ubuntu jammy has a regression in
  tls1.3 support (simply missing in runtime).

  openssl supports tls1.3, so the underlying library works.
  x86_64 is obviously not affected
  the short sample applications writes -1 on armhf, 15 on x86_64 (unknown
protocol vs tls1.3)

  QSslSocket* s = new QSslSocket();
  QSslConfiguration cfg = s->sslConfiguration();
  cfg.setProtocol(QSsl::TlsV1_3OrLater);
  s->setSslConfiguration(cfg);
  s->connectToHostEncrypted("tls13-enabled.server",443);
  s->waitForConnected();
  printf("%d\n",s->sessionProtocol());

  marking it as security since the most secure tls protocol is not used
  on some platforms

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1987624] [NEW] Temporarily hold evolution-data-server in -proposed

2022-08-25 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Maybe I needed to add more explicit Breaks in the packaging?

But if evolution-data-server smoothly migrates, I fear that several
packages including key ones like gnome-shell won't run because apps
can't use both libsoup2 and libsoup3 in the same process.

So I'm filing a blocker bug for now.

Experiencing something like this on 22.04 LTS after upgrading from 20.04
LTS - I'm running KUbuntu.

So far I'm seeing a direct relation with chrome browser (Version
104.something, supposedly the latest).

As soon as I invoke Chrome, after a short while keyboard responsiveness
becomes extremely lagged to a point of not being usable at all.

Semi WORK-AROUND:
 -I select restart from the iBus language selection indicator panel - the
indicator in question does not re-appear, but the ibus-daemon process
disappears clearing the keyboard lag from all applications. Still some
system-wide input fields stop accepting input like Dolphin, KDE menu, and
possibly a few others.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1987665] [NEW] The "Settings" app is missing the 'Appearance' option

2022-08-25 Thread Bill Gradwohl
Public bug reported:

This package contains the default settings used by Ubuntu.

I wanted to move the DOCK from BOTTOM to LEFT and found no way to do
that through Settings.

I found what looks like the proper key/value pair in dconf Editor and
changed 'BOTTOM' to 'LEFT', rebooted and it didn't change anything. I
double checked in dconf Editor after the reboot and it says 'LEFT' but
the dock is still at the bottom.

BTW - this is my second attempt at trying to report this bug but chrome
locked up the first time after I picked a .png as an attachment, so I'm
not going to attach an image of my Settings app showing The 'About'
along side the list of available options with Appearance missing from

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1987665] Re: The "Settings" app is missing the 'Appearance' option

2022-08-25 Thread Bill Gradwohl
I tried to use ubuntu-bug to report the lock up of chrome during the
ubuntu-bug reporting process but ubuntu-bug won't allow a report on
ubuntu-bug itself.

bill@bill ~$ ubuntu-bug ubuntu-bug
dpkg-query: no packages found matching ubuntu-bug

FYI - When I attempted to report the bug this page is about the first time, the
ubuntu-bug output on the terminal showed the following if that's any help:
bill@bill ~$ ubuntu-bug ubuntu-settings
bill@bill ~$
[75943:75943:0825/071203.322589:ERROR:gpu_memory_buffer_support_x11.cc(44)]
dri3 extension not supported.
Opening in existing browser session.

You guys should use ubuntu-bug to report something and attempt to add an
attachment as I did and you might see the chrome lock up yourselves.

  Tracking this I find that fwupd depends on libmm-glib0, which in turn
  Recommends: modemmanager.

  Libraries in general should not recommend daemons, so it's possible
  this should be fixed by libmm-glib0 dropping this Recommends. It
  certainly doesn't seem to be a deliberate decision by the Server Team
  to have modemmanager installed and running by default on all systems.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1987706] [NEW] [FFe] Should preinstall network-manager-openconnect-gnome

Bug description:
  The wpewebkit package contains a whole webkit browser engine. It is
  currently not used by anything of substance in Ubuntu:

  $ reverse-depends src:wpewebkit
  Reverse-Depends
  * cog   (for libwpewebkit-1.1-0)
  * gstreamer1.0-wpe  (for libwpewebkit-1.1-0)

  cog is a single-window browser for embedded devices that is not used by
anything else in the archive.
  gstreamer1.0-wpe is a plugin based on wpewebkit that is not used by anything
else in the archive.

  Using this browser engine on the Internet is very risky as it it not
  currently maintained and contains hundreds of security flaws, and
  maintaining it requires a tremendous amount of work.

  As such, I don't believe this package is suitable for the Ubuntu
  archive.

  I recommend we disable the build in gstreamer and remove both cog and
  wpewebkit, and put on block on syncs from Debian.

  systemd-resolved crashes

  [test case]

  see original description; I can't reproduce so I'm relying on the
  reporter(s) to test/verify.

  [regression potential]

  any regression would likely occur while processing sd_event objects,
  which are used throughout systemd code; this could result in crashes
  in almost any part of systemd code. However a more likely regression
  would be leaks of sd_event objects due to failure to release the final
  ref for an object.

  [scope]

  This is needed for f/g/h

  This might be fixed by upstream commit
  f814c871e65df8552a055dd887bc94b074037833; if so, that commit isn't
  included in any systemd release yet, and so is needed in h and
  earlier.

  [other info]

  I believe this is caused by a freed sd_event object that is then
  processed and calls the on_query_timeout callback with invalid state,
  leading to failed assertion, which causes resolved to crash; that's
  what analysis of the crash dump appears to indicate. This may be fixed
  by the upstream commit referenced in [scope], which takes additional
  refs during function calls. However I haven't reproduced this myself,
  so I'm only guessing as to the cause and solution at this point.

  I'm unsure why this would not occur in bionic, but per comment 5 it
  seems it doesn't happen in that release.

  [original description]

  (Tested on regularly updated Ubuntu 20.04, currently i use systemd
  245.4-4ubuntu3.2)

  I observe fairly lot of segfaults of systemd-resolve. Frequency vary
  but … see below.

  I have no clue what is the reason. Specific feature of my machine is
  that apart from normal cable connection (to OpenWRT router) I use
  OpenVPN for business network (and this submits specific nameserver for
  myorg.local domain).

Title:
  sfdisk fails to overwrite disks that contain a pre-existing linux
  partition

Status in util-linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  This command should non-interactively obliterate whatever partition
  table is on /dev/sde, and create a new table with a linux partition
  that spans the whole disk:

    $ sfdisk --label gpt /dev/sde <<< 'start=2048, type='"$(sfdisk
  --label gpt -T | awk '{IGNORECASE = 1;} /linux filesystem/{print
  $1}')"

  Sometimes it works correctly; sometimes not. It seems to work
  correctly as long as the pre-existing partition table does not already
  contain a linux partition. E.g. if the existing table just contains
  an exFAT partition, there's no issue. But if there is a linux
  partition, it gives this output:

  -
  Old situation:

  Device StartEndSectors   Size Type
  /dev/sde1   2048 1953525134 1953523087 931.5G Linux root (x86-64)

  >>> Created a new GPT disklabel (GUID: ).
  /dev/sde1: Sector 2048 already used.
  Failed to add #1 partition: Numerical result out of range
  Leaving.
  -

  sfdisk should *always* overwrite the target disk unconditionally.
  This is what the dump of the target drive looks like in the failure
  case:

  $ sfdisk -d /dev/sdd
  label: gpt
  label-id:
  device: /dev/sdd
  unit: sectors
  first-lba: 34
  last-lba: 1953525134
  grain: 33553920
  sector-size: 512

  /dev/sdd1 : start=2048, size=  1953523087,
  type=4F68BCE3-E8CD-4DB1-96E7-FBCAF984B709, uuid=,
  name="Linux x86-64 root (/)"

  $ sfdisk -v
  sfdisk from util-linux 2.36.1

  Even the workaround is broken. That is, running the following:

  $ wipefs -a /dev/sde

  should put the disk in a state that can be overwritten. But whatever
  residual metadata it leaves behind still triggers the sfdisk bug:

  $ sfdisk --label gpt /dev/sde <<< 'start=2048, type='"$(sfdisk --label gpt -T
| awk '{IGNORECASE = 1;} /linux filesystem/{print $1}')"
  Checking that no-one is using this disk right now ... OK

  Disk /dev/sde: 931.51 GiB, 1000204886016 bytes, 1953525168 sectors
  Disk model: Disk
  Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
  Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
  I/O size (minimum/optimal): 4096 bytes / 33553920 bytes

  >>> Created a new GPT disklabel (GUID: ).
  /dev/sde1: Sector 2048 already used.
  Failed to add #1 partition: Numerical result out of range
  Leaving.

  Workaround 2 (also fails):

  $ dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sde bs=1M count=512

  $ sfdisk -d /dev/sde
  sfdisk: /dev/sde: does not contain a recognized partition table

  ^ the nuclear option did the right thing, but sfdisk still fails to
  partition the drive (same error).

  The *only* workaround that works is an interactive partitioning with
