[Trisquel-users] Re : Seahorse / Evolution Problem
Do you have anything in the Preferences/Certificates of Evolution? I personally don't although I configured a GMail account.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Seahorse / Evolution Problem
You didn't by chance remove certificates did you? Maybe out of fear of China or the security vulnerable CAs?
[Trisquel-users] off-topic (maybe): petition to re-legalize unlocking cell phones in USA
Petition to re-legalize unlocking of cell phones in USA: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/make-unlocking-cell-phones-legal/1g9KhZG7 It was recently banned and the petition almost has enough votes to get a response from the whitehouse.
Re: [Trisquel-users] off-topic (maybe): petition to re-legalize unlocking cell phones in USA
Nice to see that it has got some attention so far. At the moment there is a bad culture of people accepting that their mobile phones are owned by their service provider. Talking to a few people has helped me realise that. I'm not in the USA so I haven't signed it. But I'm definitely supportive of opposition to the DMCA, because restrictive US copyright laws generally make their way to the rest of the world.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What do you think of Steam coming to Gnu/Linux.
My bits: F**k Steam service living in virtual reality pushed by fake achievements screwing up with your brain's reward-circuit. This whole gamification trend is sad from my point of view. Saying this I also have to honestly admit that just thanks to gaming I learned English way easier than what would be the result of sole school's class attendance. Half-Life was amazing until I realized that shooting doing harm does not bring me ethical joy. I've never regretted the day I close account with some 13+ legal (by current society and business norm) launchers on it. Enjoy FYI. [Trisquel-users] Strange Issue with Evolution
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 Hi all, I'm currently using the Trisquel 6.0 pre-release, and have a strange issue that could be in either Evolution or Abrowser. Re: [Trisquel-users] Free as in Trisquel or as in Fedora ?
In Brazil is more difficult indeed. But in the US you have many options from basic to professional to FLAC and Ogg Vorbis [1][2][3]. WebM and Ogg Theora too, but less. Android play out-of-box, iOS can play with software in App Store[4]. In my opinion is easy only listen Ogg and FLAC. And FLAC is becoming well known: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57530837-221/what-is-flac-the-high-def-mp3-explained/ [1] https://wiki.xiph.org/FLAC#Non-PC_playback_support [2] https://wiki.xiph.org/Vorbis_Hardware [3] https://wiki.xiph.org/PortablePlayers [4] https://wiki.xiph.org/PortablePlayers/Others
Re: [Trisquel-users] Strange Issue with Evolution
I think you can change in System Settings Details Preferred Applications(or something like that).
Re: [Trisquel-users] What is the Point of Add/remove Applications
Well, it can usually remove packages just fine, but it can't do it if another package is dependent on it, while Synaptic can. It's a problem, but I still like gnome-app-install better than Synaptic, personally. Of course, if you prefer to use Synaptic, you can of course change the menu to show Synaptic instead of gnome-app-install.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Seahorse / Evolution Problem
No I didn't do anything like that. This was just a sudden thing. I'm not even sure where to start troubleshooting. Though I do suspect that seahorse is operating as a face to gpg? If so I still don't know what to do with this problem. It's really odd. The strange thing is that when I go to sync seahorse with keyservers it claims there are keys to sync when there really aren't any.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I got a response regarding Linux Libre in Ubuntu from Canonical
I'm idealistic in that jxself builds the kernel once on Launchpad and then moves those packages to Trisquel while still leaving his originals in a Linux Libre PPA so others can add them to their existing Ubuntu or Mint installs. Its what I would do, but I cannot control how jxself thinks or how he works.FX Focusing on the LTS releases and backporting newer packages has always been something I favor. I am doing it right now on the 12.04/Trisquel 6 branch with a handful of PPAs that offer the most recent software that I use on a daily basis like nginx, Git, MongoDB, MariaDB, PHP, VLC, Transmission, LibreOffice, Pidgin, and Gstreamer to name a few. I have not moved to a newer release and it has not hurt me one bit. I like the stability. Plus, Trisquel can have point releases throughout the years like 6.1 and 6.2 like how Ubuntu does and re-authors the ISO with newer packages for those who need to install it.
[Trisquel-users] [OFF-TOPIC] Any advice about e-readers?
So, I am looking for a nice e-reader[1] that is as free software compatible as possible. The Kindle is of course not an option, and I was looking at the Sony Reader. Any advice? Thanks, -- Stefano [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-reader
Re: [Trisquel-users] [OFF-TOPIC] Any advice about e-readers?
OpenInkpot exists but it has the same problem where is uses the standard version of the kernel called Linux (not Linux-libre), etc. To my knowledge there aren't any fully free distros for e-readers at this time so why not just use a computer running Trisquel? It could even be a laptop. The e-reader device is basically just a computer after all.
Re: [Trisquel-users] [OFF-TOPIC] Any advice about e-readers?
Call me old fashioned, but I still like books. I like that I can buy with cash, buy used, and loan to a friend. I like that it doesn't require a battery charge and I like the smell. I know that if there is a societal collapse or need to sit on a book shelf for 100 years that they will be there. Biggest of all, I like to take a break from staring at a computer screen with all the eye strain and glare.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What is the Point of Add/remove Applications
It is an older and depreciated Gnome software center that Trisquel still holds on to. Since using the Ubuntu Software Center isn't an option, how about using the one from Linux Mint? Its free software and can easily be tailored for Trisquel. I swear I'm having deja-vu from having this discussion around a year ago recommending Mint's version.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What is the Point of Add/remove Applications
You could all-ways install Muon which is in add/remove applications.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What is the Point of Add/remove Applications
It is likely, you discussed using Mint Software Center a year ago, and will discuss it a year from now; LOL. I'll stick with synapticc, or, if I know exactly what I want to do, apt-get.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What is the Point of Add/remove Applications
I think the new universal GNOME software manager is called packagekit? Or, is that an Opensuse-specific thing?
Re: [Trisquel-users] [OFF-TOPIC] Any advice about e-readers?
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 I'm interested in this too, but using a computer isn't an option, unless I can easily modify it to have an e-ink screen rather than an LCD. That, to me, is the mail appeal of e-readers over tablets - avoidance of eye strain and glare. I have to confess, I currently have an Amazon Swindle. I had no idea how terrible a thing this was until after I'd purchased it - so I'm interested in whether anyone has managed to mod one to run free software. I guess probably not (yet). Since I've invested money in the Swindle, I'm not going to throw it away, or sell it on and inflict the restrictions on someone else, but as a compromise I have resolved not to buy e-books from Amazon, and not to use any that come with DRM. - --UPDATE-- Having just written the above, before I submitted this commend I duckduckgo'd OpenInkpot. This looks promising! Shame about using non-libre linux but maybe this can be addressed by modding. Time to do some digging, methinks! -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.11 (GNU/Linux) iF4EAREIAAYFAlEKtpcACgkQgijxUCZnvlvGIAD+JcUlUItI9Ftp/Gm1ohXVo+d0 MYFtTcGNMyiEOhFRaX4A/08av5y9srlBSglKWjrmpW7Wn+TS4kV0hkhXHAOIirT/ =prd6 -END PGP SIGNATURE-

Re: [Trisquel-users] abrowser 18.0.1
OK, UnPlug is working... sort of (the Downloads window doesn't show up even though the video is downloading, which is weird, but it works), but I've noticed another problem since the upgrade to Abrowser 18. Whenever it's prompted to play a video by opening a supported video type such as OGG video (e.g. http://questioncopyright.org/files/minute_memes/cint/CINT_Nik_Theora_720.ogv) or viewing an embedded video (e.g. the video on https://www.gnu.org/education/education.html), the playback controls are almost never shown (one time the controls did show up for an entire session, but I have no idea why). Anyone else experiencing this?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Spam-Bot Exploiting My Email -- Please HELP
this may sound odd, but did you try change to a strong password?
Re: [Trisquel-users] abrowser 18.0.1
Hi, I'm not experiencing your issues, but have one that keeps many videos from playing any more than about 30 seconds; these are usually ones that are evailable from youtube or vimeo, but with no webm option. Almost none of the videos I want to watch are in html5 (yes, I am in trial and specify html5=1). Cheers, Dave
Re: [Trisquel-users] [OFF-TOPIC] Any advice about e-readers?
It is still better to use your Trisquel device, there is software dedicated to reduce eye strain in a LCD screen like redshift-gtk. You can also search for eye friendly color patterns in a search engine. Solarized palette is a popular one[1]. ePub supports color configuration (FBReader). Not sure about pdf. Re: [Trisquel-users] Free as in Trisquel or as in Fedora ?
A lot of these options are dependent on indulging in non-free software. And not just lightly. They are heavily dependent and come with other issues. A dedicated device is less of a problem. But- yes- I agree. Readily available does depend on where you live. It isn't as readily available as I'd like. I'd like a reasonably priced player of decent quality to be available. Even within the United States I don't think we have great options available.
Re: [Trisquel-users] off-topic (maybe): petition to re-legalize unlocking cell phones in USA
Yea- I'd like to keep this at the top of the forums for a few days. I'm sure it'll get the attention it needs for a reply. It is almost there now. Unlocking is very popular thing among hackers. Actually I am hesitant to call people who unlock hackers. I think a real hacker is going to object to trackers.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Free as in Trisquel or as in Fedora ?
What about players supporting the ROCKbox firmware (under the GPL)? I would choose such a player if I needed one. It does not seem to be anywhere as risky as CyanogenMod (for smartphones).
Re: [Trisquel-users] off-topic (maybe): petition to re-legalize unlocking cell phones in USA
Signed it, and I don't even own one of these devices.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Re : Free as in Trisquel or as in Fedora ?
Rockboxing a player frees it enough for my satisfaction.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Spam-Bot Exploiting My Email -- Please HELP
Sounds like you're a victim of this: http://feeds.arstechnica.com/~r/arstechnica/index/~3/NzaR7UHUhIY A group has been exploiting A vulnerability in yahoo to steal session cookies. Log out completely to be sure the cookie is invalidated then log in from a clean machine (live CD) and reset your password , Security questions, and double check the alternate/recovery E-mail is set correctly. As long as the session cookie is still valid the miscreants can get into the account. Also any info in that account must be considered compromised. Any passwords, financial info (card numbers) etc will all need to be changed to prevent problems down the road. Hope this helps, Freemor
Re: [Trisquel-users] off-topic (maybe): petition to re-legalize unlocking cell phones in USA
:) Good to hear! I wouldn't buy one either. At least not a locked one.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free as in Trisquel or as in Fedora ?
Yes- if your technical and have the time. The majority of people are not though. Plus these players are more expensive and there is an availability issue.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Strange Issue with Evolution
It never solved that thing for me in 5.5 Brigantia; the association keeps appearing every reboot. I didn't test it in 6.0 Toutatis, though.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Seahorse / Evolution Problem
That happens to me also. I have no idea why. KMail doesn't complain, neither Abrowser -- only Evolution.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Seahorse / Evolution Problem
I think it's because those don't use seahorse. I tried Sylpheed Mail an it works fine.
Re: [Trisquel-users] [OFF-TOPIC] Any advice about e-readers?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Free as in Trisquel or as in Fedora ?
There's a vendor, talkingmp3players.com who will rockbox the Sansa players for the customer. I'd be willing to pay someone to do something like this. I'd theoretically be willing to do likewise for a pda. -Dave On Jan 31, 2013, at 7:52 PM, ch...@thinkpenguin.com wrote: Yes- if your technical and have the time. Being a Thunderbird user, I just haven't encountered this problem with the GNOME keyring and Evolution. I may have run into something similar with Empathy for the brief time I tried using it, but that was in another distro.
