The clue is the G. ... GNU, Google, a lot of enterprises, comunities,
foundations, etc. were/are(will) created by members of secret societies (or
almost that). The clue is the G, they are obssesed with that (as some are
with Justin Biever or Maddona (is that the spelling of those names?) and use
them T-Shits or hair style) so they put it on everything. I mean, it doesn't
mean it was created by a secret society, just a guy who likes that because he
is into it.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 7 based on Mate Desktop

2014-01-19 Thread dadix

The best option it's to have a system builder like http://susestudio.com/
The user may visit the Trisquel site and than go to download section.
There he/she may chose an interface like a wizard program which allow to
chose in the first step the Desktop Environment. In the second step users may
chose 64 or 32 bit. Than package is build and when is finished the user
receive a mail with download link via email. How cool is that?

Re: [Trisquel-users] easy-to-follow Postfix guide?

2014-01-19 Thread mampir
EHLO localhost is command you write when connected to Postfix via telnet or
nc (netcat). I use nc instead of telnet, like this:

nc localhost 25

This command connects you to your mail server. When connected, you start a
sort of conversation with you mail server. The server says something, then
you, then the the server, and so on.

When you connect the server first says:

220 trisquel ESMTP Postfix (Ubuntu)

This is basically a greetings from the server, introducing itself and telling
you that it's running fine. Now you can respond with something the server
understands. You can write something like this in nc and press enter (new
line):

EHLO localhost

This is you, introducing yourself to the server by saying HELLO and that
you are localhost. After this command, the server will respond back with
list of all of it capabilities. It might say something like this:

250-trisquel Hello localhost
250-SIZE 52428800
250-PIPELINING
250-STARTTLS
250-AUTH
250 HELP

This list tells what you can do with the server. If you see STARTTLS, this
means the server can START an ecrypted communication using TLS.

When you want to stop the communication with the server, you can write:

QUIT

The server will respond with something like:

221 trisquel closing connection

Then the communication will finish, nc will close and you'll be back in Bash.

Using this method you can also send messages, using the commands MAIL FROM,
RCPT TO and DATA. Like this:

220 libtec.org ESMTP Exim 4.76 Sun, 19 Jan 2014 13:41:47 +0200
MAIL FROM:mampir@libtec,org
250 OK
RCPT TO:muhammed@localhost
250 Accepted
DATA
354 Enter message, ending with . on a line by itself
Hi, Muhammed!
.
250 OK
QUIT
221 libtec.org closing connection

Every lines starting with a number code, such as 250, is from the mail
server. These codes identify the different types of responses the server can
give. The codes are usually followed by more details.

Also, EHLO is used as a HELLO command, because there is an older command
called HELO. The older one was more commonly used, before EHLO was
made-up.

Hope all this makes sense to you. :)

[Trisquel-users] Antwort: The NSA and the likes do use radio waves to get inside someone's computer, through the use of spy hardware

2014-01-19 Thread simonhandel
I think it's important to be sceptical about the capabilities of Intel vPro
that are described in the article of prisonplanet. A 3G antenna inside
thousands of chips constantly connected to a local 3G mast without someone
noticing? Really? I have my doubts that this is true.
I have read other articles of Jim Stone and in my opinion he isn't a reliable
source.

Re: [Trisquel-users] The NSA and the likes do use radio waves to get inside someone's computer, through the use of spy hardware

2014-01-19 Thread antiesnob

I totally agree with you except in two things:
1- It's not important to be sceptical but to be doubtful and try to check
everything by empiric facts instead of what someone writes.
2- If someone is not a reliable source doesn't mean that something he/she
states is not true. So, to the point #1 again, check it.

Prisonplanet is obvious a source that tries to get 'x' kind of people (as
others tries to get 'y' kind of people) to get money from them (in differents
ways) and it could be that prisonplanet actually could be a intelligence
agency that enprisoned people who are paranoid (not in fact) to guide them
the place they (big brother) want(s) to.

Microprocessors and microcontrollers works in frecuencies, so it could be
very bad to have another radio source aside with it. This is the real reason
to be sceptical...

Any thoughts on migrating from Xubuntu 13.10 to Trisquel 6.0, or is the
response the same as other non 12.04 derivatives of Ubuntu?

Actually started with Ubuntu 12.04 then around 13.04 migrated to Xubuntu,
using a similar method of adding and deleting packages and DE's etc... Very
pleased with Xubuntu, then discovered GNU and FSF which led me to Trisquel.
I have since also removed non free packages listed from VRMS and unchecked
the non free repositories in update manager, however, this does leave the
problem of the non free areas of the kernel etc...

Trisquel in Virtualbox is running well so it should be fine as far as
hardware and driversjust would prefer a migration rather than a clean
install

I'm afraid there's no way but to do a clean install. Of course you can copy
your home folder in order to get your various settings but some of those
might give you trouble since most software isn't designed with forward
compatibility in mind.

I'm not sure if you can trust real hardware to work if Virtualbox works. In
any case you can easily try a Trisquel live media to find out.

Its like saying something is free software vs open source where the
majority of the time they are the same. Apache is both. The GPL/LGPL licenses
are both. BSD and MIT are both. Its about choosing a side and a religion to
argue about the same things.

But in the business world, it is open source much like GNU/Linux is
straight up Linux no matter how much you want to fight it. People get
confused when you say free software and think its about price. Use open
source instead.

You can overwrite multiple times. I don't know if there's a limit. The more
passes, the more time consumption.

-n # indicates how many overwrites you want the program make...
-n25 twenty five times
-n2 two times

[Trisquel-users] Select GNOME mixer for volume

2014-01-19 Thread kete
If the Master channel has no effect on the sound card, then the default
control has to be switched. Use gnome-alsamixer or alsamixer to test. GNOME
does not provide a means to switch default mixer controls, so here is how to
switch the mixer(s) affected by a multimedia key although the volume bar
(screenshot attached) will stop appearing:

1. Open the Trisquel menu.
2. Pick *System Settings*.
3. Go to *Keyboard*.
4. Switch to the other tab: *Shortcuts*.
5. Click *Custom Shortcuts*.
6. Click the plus button.
7. Give the shortcut a name like *PCM up*.
8. Enter a command like, amixer set PCM 1+. This will raise the volume as
much as alsamixer would after pressing the up arrow key. *2* is also
suitable, but *five* is probably too much.

9. Apply.
10. Click *Disabled*.
11. Use the multimedia key as though it would increase the volume.
12. Press *Reassign*.
13. Repeat steps six through twelve for the *PCM down*, but use a hyphen
instead of a plus symbol in step eight.
14. For another control like *Headphone*, repeat these steps, but hold down
the *Ctrl* button while using the multimedia key.
