Re: [Trisquel-users] Is OpenDNS safe to use?
DNS as in quickest shortcut to insecurity with all kinds of powerful counterparties watching over it. For legitimate traffic, I suggest using your own caching resolver validating DNS's RR with DNSSEC. To my knowledge UNBOUND is the best for this atm. DNSSEC is not implemented by mostbigcashcompanies.com and will plug you directly into the root servers/gTLDS owned by good/bad guys depending on what activity you are running. DNSSEC will validate up to the domain user domain.More info here http://nohats.ca/wordpress/blog/tag/dnssec/. For private traffic you can decide to trust a third party. But there is always a risk of them coming back at you. This is your decision after all. For a normal user I strongly recommend a VPN service. I found https://www.privateinternetaccess.com to be quite cheap.

-Then hire someone else to do it for you. dont tell me what to do, and i dont tell you where you go. besides all code is done, there no need of unnecessary programming. -The point of free/libre software isn't for software to be flexible, extensible, easy to use but at least it must be usable at all: 0. Freedom to run the program. now os is useless, only thing i see is porridge from random pixels, and only way to fix it is install ati drivers. but you tell me that my freedom(to run the program as i wish, and i wish to run it with non-free component) is violate my freedom. what? -Linux-libre doesn't have a condition that requires you to not load non-libre firmware. yes it is. os not work without then properly. its like capitalism which in theory not requires you to get job but in fact do.
[Trisquel-users] proxychains oddy
using proxychains with my abrowser at some part it apperas this in the terminal: (abrowser:2552): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to store changes into `/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but failed: Falló al crear el archivo «/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel.ORS6CX»: No existe el archivo o el directorio The other day, exactly when i got that thing i was trying to enter trisquel.info and the page told me that my ip was in the blacklist of the honey pot project, which means that ip is a source of spam, etc. Any idea whats all this thing? i think proxychains pics ips randomly even the malicious ones, or what?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Installing just a web browser in a minimal X environment using apt-get
to deactivate the display manager you also can go to: nano /etc/X11/default-display-manager and delete the only line you will find. if you want to restore it you can write the line you have deleted or you can: dpkg-reconfigure the_display_manager_you_have
Re: [Trisquel-users] 3d acceleration
but you wrong: 0. Freedom to run the program AS YOU WISH. I can run free parts Trisquel whichever way I want as I wish - but that hasn't necesarrily got anything to do with running other programmes in tandem, free or non-free, in my case NVIDIA's proprietary driver (and in a laptop I've got an ATI GPU, albeit an old one).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Installing just a web browser in a minimal X environment using apt-get
I'm pretty sure the first answer is all that's needed: apt-get install abrowser. Anyway, try Lynx as well (apt-get install lynx).
Re: [Trisquel-users] proxychains oddy
The first problem is because you run abrowser as root, which is a very bad idea. Spammers often use proxies. No idea how proxychains works.

You're being hindered by a technical incapability, not from being mistreated. Of course, the deblobbed Radeon driver isn't unusable as you claim (and it's an odd claim, since you never mentioned it before). It's just slower. Actually, my experience has been the opposite, though I'm sure it varies: I found that the proprietary Radeon driver caused the display to be all messed up, while the free/libre (deblobbed) Radeon driver is slow, but at least reliable. You're spending so much time chastising Linux-libre for not supporting the blobs, apparently you're not even talking about your actual problems. If your display is messed up, the first thing you should be trying is updating the kernel (install the package linux-generic-lts-saucy). nomad said: yes it is. os not work without then properly. its like capitalism which in theory not requires you to get job but in fact do. No, no one is stopping or forbidding you from re-blobbing Linux-libre. You can do it. You're just unwilling to do the work to do it. By this logic, you don't have the freedom to climb mountains you're unwilling to climb because we don't have big carrying structures to help you. Get real. Freedom doesn't mean everyone else caters to you.
Re: [Trisquel-users] proxychains oddy
omg, i think you are rigth, but proxychains to work, you need to access as root
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is OpenDNS safe to use?
Using TorBrowser will protect yourself from revealing any info about your surfing to your ISP. However, it also has some disadvantages. One question I have (it might be terribly stupid, lol), is if DNS is only used when accessing www.namewebsite.com or if it is also used even if we use 123.456.789.0 being this the IP of the website. Like, for example, if I was to remember the IP of a website and enter it directly, would I still use a DNS? I never tried OpenDNS, but I think your suggestion of encrypting the traffic between you and the DNS is a good idea.
Re: [Trisquel-users] ***SPAM*** Telegram IM Client
I recommend using Kontalk [1] instead. It's also available on F-Droid [2]. The only problem is that it asks for your cellphone number when setting it up for the first time. As far as I know, the number is used to check whether the cellphone using Kontalk is the same one which receives the code. Best regards, ADFENO. Have a nice day. Re: [Trisquel-users] Telegram IM Client
What is wrong with XMPP? It was developed specifically for this use case but people are still creating new protocols instead of using an interoperable standard. It looks like Kontalk started out with their own protocol but have switched to XMPP, which is good for them. Telegram uses their own protocol, which does not support federation, coupled with a proprietary server application. For many here, that is unacceptable.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Installing just a web browser in a minimal X environment using apt-get
Thank you for the welcome. Yes, I know that X is a GUI and no I don't care for graphical user interfaces, I'm a GNU Emacs user. I've come to terms with the fact that if I am going to do web programming in JavaScript that I need to use a modern web browser, which in turn needs a GUI environment to run in. w3m in GNU Emacs is awesome but it does not cut the mustard for this need. I installed: abroswer, xorg and the fvwm window manger separately. There was no modification to the by boot-up behavior of Trisquel, which was nice but I'll have to do some customization to fvwm to get everything the way I like it. My goal is to run startx from the shell and have abrowser start full screen.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Installing just a web browser in a minimal X environment using apt-get
I've never heard of i3. I will give that a try. Thanks for the suggestion.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Installing just a web browser in a minimal X environment using apt-get
Thanks for the tips. I knew about /etc/default/grub and nano /etc/X11/default-display-manager but dpkg-reconfigure the_display_manager_you_have is new to me.
[Trisquel-users] Mini USB wifi adapter recommendation
Greetings, Can someone please recommend a mini USB wifi adapter that does not require non-free software. This one: http://www.amazon.com/Bolse%C2%AE-300Mbps-Wireless-N-Micro-Adapter/dp/B00DTZYHX4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8qid=1394908900sr=8-1keywords=usb+mini+wireless unfortunately does.
[Trisquel-users] Local mirror of Trisquel 6 repository
Greetings, I'm interested in having a local mirror of the Trisquel 6 repository for onsite up-to-date installs. Can someone please please point me to some documentation on how to set this up myself. My search didn't yield any results.
[Trisquel-users] Compile Trisquel 6 console installation from source code
Greetings, I'd like to compile the Trisquel 6 console installation from source code. My search for how this can be done yielded no results. I suspect that I will need to know: 1. What source code is installed as part of the console installation 2. Where I can find this source code 3. How to create a local mirror of this source code 4. How to compile this source code Can someone shed some light on the above?
[Trisquel-users] Re : Mini USB wifi adapter recommendation
Those sold by ThinkPenguin all perfectly work. Besides, by following this link, 25% of the benefits on your purchase go to the Trisquel project: http://libre.thinkpenguin.com
[Trisquel-users] Re : Local mirror of Trisquel 6 repository
I believe you must use apt-mirror (in Trusquel's repositories).
[Trisquel-users] Re : Compile Trisquel 6 console installation from source code
The repositories hosts not only pre-compiled packages but their sources too (deb-src). You just need to enable those repositories (from /etc/apt/sources.list). The NetInstall is, I believe, the metapackages trisquel-base and trisquel-base-recommended (and, obviously, their dependences).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Mini USB wifi adapter recommendation
Great! Thanks for the recommendation.

However, many hosts will have many websites hosted on a single IP address (HTTP/1.1 introduced the 'host' header to deal with this) so entering an IP address won't always work. Regarding Tor Browser, DNS requests are sent through the Tor network to maintain anonymity. Andrew.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Local mirror of Trisquel 6 repository
Just so you know, the repository is over 500 GB!

Thanks, that gives me a start.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Local mirror of Trisquel 6 repository
That's good to know.
