Re: [Trisquel-users] New kernel in X60
You have two options: + modify the grub configuration and reflash the libreboot. That's too much hassle for a small thing like that. + modify /vmlinuz and /initrd.img soft links to point to your new kernel. To save you some time: you should upgrade to the latest 3.10.x kernel. The kernel from 3.11 on have introduced a bug into the graphical chip driver. So there will be no pretty graphical interface with any of those kernel.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Fully encrypted Live USB stick
To boot encrypted media you need a boot loader that can do the unencryption for the boot partition and a kernel in the boot partition that can also do the unecryption. So, one way or another your boot loader, probably GNU GRUB 2, should be somewhere outside that encrypted media and *should* have support for the type of encryption you are going to use for your new drive. Any of the commercial BIOSes can't help you here.
Re: [Trisquel-users] New kernel in X60
I realise I wasn't clear enough. On Gluglug X60 Mr. Rowe set up two symbolic links in the root partition. The files at which those two links point out are the ones used by the libreboot configuration.

[Trisquel-users] Is it possible tethering in Trisquel?
Hi friends. I was just wondering if I could use my mobile to surf he net using tethering. I did a quick search, and I didn't find anything related to tethering in Trisquel repositories. However there seems to be several apps available in F-Droid. So my question is... Is it possible?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is it possible tethering in Trisquel?
It's available in Settingmore settingstethering (or something like that) on my phone. As far asI know you don't need a seperate app for that, I certainly don't.
Re: [Trisquel-users] New kernel in X60
Hello Elodie, thanks for your help! I installed Trisquel from scratch after the Gluglug X60 arrived. Therefore I haven't those two links that Mr. Rowe set up. The last of your two options looks very nice and I will try this. I think that I will compile the linux-libre-3.2.57 kernel, because for this version a Grsecurity patch exist.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Is it possible tethering in Trisquel?
As far as I understand (I do not have a cell phone), the GNU/Linux system should see the phone as a Wifi access point, i.e., nothing needs to be installed on that GNU/Linux system.

[Trisquel-users] Free multimedia distribution
Hello, I recently installed lmms on Trisquel 6.0.1 and I found out that this program recommends and supports nonfree VST(i) plugins. So I decided to install the newest version[1] from source without a dependency on wine. Having VST support in lmms is as bad as ndiswrapper. Cadencii is a piano roll editor originally written for MacOS and Windows. It was recently ported to GNU/Linux by a Debian maintainer, who decided to keep VOCALOID support. But VOCALOID is nonfree and there is a free replacement called vConnect-STAND that can run on free GNU/Linux distributions. However I had patch both programs to run on GNU/Linux. I uploaded the packages to my own server [2]. Many other audio programs in Trisquel are outdated, so I plan to set up my own repository which contains up to date liberated Linux Audio packages. I might even start my own distribution based on Trisquel, KXStudio and Ubuntu Studio. It will include a realtime kernel and many other programs not present in Trisquel. What about MusiX GNU/Linux? The FSF recommends it. Here is the latest ISO (released three weeks ago): http://musix.najval.net/musix/isos/MUSIX_GNU+Linux_3.0.1_Stable.iso
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is it possible tethering in Trisquel?
Isn't tethering done with Bluetooth? I've seen a video telling how to tether with another (Xfce-based) GNU/Linux system before; on there, you enable bluetooth, pair with the phone that has tethering enabled, and then choose the bluetooth thing from the wireless connections list. I don't know if GNOME is different.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is it possible tethering in Trisquel?
I think you can do it with USB too.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Installing Applications (Pitivi 0.92 and cairo)
Agreed with onpon4 about WebM. You can read more about software patents and why they are harmful here. Try to avoid proprietary/patented formats, even if they are supported by free sofware.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Cannot Configure VPN and unable to import Openvpn cert in Trisquel 6.0.1
I think you might need to restart in order to use openvpn with network manager. Anyway, the easiest way to use openvpn is directly via terminal, e.g. by running: $ sudo openvpn --config configuration-file.ovpn and then entering username and password.
