a post explaining how to compile c code using sdcc for the gameboy:

please note that you will need to write a standern libary
as the only one i found dosent look like it has a license (correct me if i am

i email the creator about the licenses and they haven’t got back to me

just be sure to avoid the non-free stuff

Re: [Trisquel-users] X60 Libreboot Trisquel 7 Overheating

2015-05-31 Thread silvibus

I've isolated which line of my script that removes the high pitched noise.
The line,
# rmmod uhci_hcd #disable module uhci_hcd
which is the kernel module for USB 1.1 support, right?
That line disables the module and with it the noise. However, USB 1.1 devices
won't work without it.
I've tested with my NokiaN95 (which've got a mini/micro usb 1.1 port to
transfer files). The kernel did not
recognize it after i disabled the module (while indeed got recognized when
uhci_hcd was enabled),

# dmesg
produced no additional output when uhci_hcd was disabled by mentioned
command.
Well, that did it for me (and i never use 1.1usb devices, except my NokiaN95
when transfering files).
Am currently recompiling the kernel with as many thinkpadx60/intel specifics
as
possible, hopefully to solve the heat issue. If it does, then i will report
back here such that it may be useful

to others as well.
by the way, is it really safe to apply the suction of a vaacum cleaner on
tiny electronics?

i've read that a can of compressed air is the safer option.
I've not yet removed the intel wireless card nor the fingerprint reader due
to the screws being too small
for my current screwdriver. The wireless card is generating alot of heat,
yes, but the CPU is the thing
that makes my system unbearably hot, as when it's on idle, then the
temperatures are acceptable.
So i can get away with text editing, internet browsing (usually), but long
copies and any long-lasting operation
makes the CPU too hot. So compiling, say, the kernel... my system will
probably burn up :D

my former post, i forgot to include some sources, so here they are:

ce_power_consumption
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Power_management/Guide

https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentatio

[Trisquel-users] Re : Questions on old programming languages

2015-05-31 Thread lcerf
For efficiency, with an object-oriented paradigm (and even some functional
bits): C++14. On the negative side, the language is not safe (you cannot have
both efficiency and safety) and is complicated, hard to master. The standard
template library does not contain much but many excellent libraries exist
(search the boost library first).

When efficiency matters less than productivity: Python 3. It is, nowadays,
one of the most popular language (what means many libraries are available).
It is object-oriented and safe. Ruby is similar, has its fans, but is less
popular, hence less libraries.

To process text inputs: AWK. You can do so many things by writing, in a
matter of seconds/minutes, a few lines of AWK.

I would argue that those three languages cover all needs (notice that C++ is
a superset of C). Some would argue that, between C++ and Python, there is
room for a language like Java. I personally do not think so: either choose
efficiency (C++) or productivity (Python).

[Trisquel-users] Re : How inconvenient freedom can be?

Re: [Trisquel-users] How inconvenient freedom can be?

2015-05-31 Thread onpon4
Well, you don't need to (and shouldn't) think about it, so that's not really
a meaningful example. If you actually manually compile your Python code,
you're doing it wrong; you're supposed to let the interpreter handle that for
you (and pass -O or -OO if you want optimizations).

But even C code is perfectly easy to compile as long as a good build
environment is set up (e.g. Autotools or CMake), and the procedure to compile
the program is explained properly. The hardest part is installing
dependencies, not actual compilation.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Questions on old programming languages

2015-05-31 Thread onpon4
Python is easily my favorite language. I do just about everything in Python.
I've even done things I could do in bash in Python (like iterating over
dozens of files and renaming them a certain way), though that's largely
because I haven't bothered to learn much of bash.

Out of C and C++, I'm personally more fond of C, though I understand I'm in a
minority. I think there are too many ways to do a lot of things in C++,
mostly as a result of inheriting stuff from C while also inventing totally
new methods to do stuff (e.g. malloc/free vs new/delete).
