Re: [Trisquel-users] LibreBox small computer
Just because it isn't as free as Gluglug's gear doesn't mean it's a 'scam'. It is advertised as a computer system that will work with a free OS. It does this. I see no scam. Sure, it would be nice if there were more Gluglug-likes around, but this is a step in the right direction. We need more fully free OSes running in the first place.

I have deep doubts that someone not knowing the real sense of free hardware but recommending something as it's libre. ;) Nevertheless: yes, the name is a bit misleading. But my thoughts were going in a different direction. Ubuntu Mate is a) generating a lot of buzz and b) offering a small device for a reasonable price preloaded with their system. These are useful things to attract new users, especially with an easy to use operating system. So why not step up, go that way too and show that all this is possible with a completely free OS too? vinz.

Re: [Trisquel-users] LibreBox small computer
yes. I was talking about Purism Librem. I say Librem is a scam. Not this LibreTrend thing. I only said that this Libretrand reminded me of that other thing (the other thing is a scam - Purism librem). Saying this laptop is free software friendly is ok. Impling that it contains 100% free software is NOT ok. What I really don't like is the Librem (purism) and I repeat - librem is a scam. You may find this interesting: http://blogs.coreboot.org/blog/2015/02/23/the-truth-about-purism-why-librem-is-not-the-same-as-libre/ That being said, I think both are a bad thing. There are very few people in the world that care about free software and even fewer are those who care about computers running with only free software (BIOS and firmware included). It is a bad thing, a very bad thing if those very few give their money to these pseudo-free projects. The people who care about freedom should financially support gluglug and those companies that actually do something to free the hardware (the libreboot project for instance). People shall NOT give money to those who promise nonsense (read the article I linked above about the librem) or those who imply their computers contain only feee software, while that is absolutely not true..

No one published free/libre replacement data for them yet. Same goes for most Quake/Doom games (eg. Doom 3).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Tweak your browser to enhance security and privacy
yes apparmor should be in there, i'm happy that trisquel has a profile for abrowser :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Thoughts on Trisquel 7.1 based off of Ubuntu 14.04.3 with release in July or August
There certainly aren't many developers on Trisquel. That's true. It is also true that Ruben is not the only one working on it. There are several people helping with code. And if you (generic you) want to help you are very welcome! https://devel.trisquel.info/groups/trisquel
Re: [Trisquel-users] Tweak your browser to enhance security and privacy
tks. I also typed cache in about:config, and changed every cache entry from true to false, I got fed up with the hdd caching and just disabled everything. some things I didn't know to disable on that tutorial, and I really appreciate it. awesome job. I'm still wondering though if the privacy.trackingdisabled.enabled is really doing anything. You are supposed to get the icon and drop down menu next to the address bar when it is activiely blocking something. For example, it should show up on youtube.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Tweak your browser to enhance security and privacy
webgl.disabled = true WebGL is a potential security risk. I noticed that in Tor Browser, that line is true. Could it be that the NoScript addon handles that issue? Anyway, I would encourage anyone to use NoScript. Even if you set it to allow all by default, it will protect you from XSS attacks and clickjacking. How about adding an AppArmor profile to restrict browser access to the system? :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] New Updates: Opensource/Free FPS standalone mod of Xonotic (ChaosEsque) version 57 etc.
Thanks for the encouragement :). We also got our first defacement.
Re: [Trisquel-users] New Updates: Opensource/Free FPS standalone mod of Xonotic (ChaosEsque) version 57 etc.
Checked the LGDB account, found that the entry was modified, not by me, and to my knowlege only account holders can modify. This was likely done by an SJW from 8chan or Joerg, who follows a certain contributor around the net saying how anything he makes is crap. http://www.lgdb.org/game/chaosesque-anthology The lgdb account was defaced and made to read as such: ChaosEsque Anthology is crap. It is a standalone modification of Xonotic which includes extended weapons, maps, vehicles, buildable buildings, mounted weapons, spell casting, monsters, player characters, textures, and game modes. It would like to be a first person shooter, but since nobody is playing it, it is more of a minecraft thing. It has over 100 shitty maps. Some pretend to be futuristic, some are ancient (really), and some are medieval (from a level design perspective). A few evoke platform games such as sonic, others follow a style more akin to diablo. Some are static maps, others are randomly connected. There is something to fit your mood. There are mutators that can add mounted weapons in any map, buildings, monsters, foliage, hazards, and even balloons and bumpers. You can fight with futuristic weapons, medieval weapons, and /or hand to hand combat (over 70 weapons). There are also many vehicles (and a mutator to spawn them in maps that do not have them, as is tradition (as you can see)). You can also set each team to start with different specific weapons if you want to test a theory that you could defeat a well equipped military force with your bolt action rifle or crossbow. Same with vehicles and mounted weapons spawning (you can set which spawn near which team in CTF etc). You can drink wine, potions, learn magic, read scrolls, so on and so forth. The goal, and much of this has been reached, is to not limit the player. Special thanks to NASA for images of Earth and Mars. Probably by the :-) SJW guy from 8 chan or Joerg. Reverted. If it happens to be defaced again, now you know why we don't run our own public servers, websites, and we release ISOs rather than have everything be pulled exclusively from git. We like to build maps, program, etc, not fight with Social Justice Warriors on a Mission endlessly.
Re: [Trisquel-users] LibreBox small computer
Lucky you. I had the hard way of going through hours of tweaking thanks to Lenovo's blacklist feature. So imho pre-building PCs with libre parts ain't immoral. It's a way for people not having the skills and knowledge to get at least a mostly libre computer. By saying that being immoral you are claiming that offering people a way to freedom is immoral. I find that a bit disturbing. What else I find disturbing is this discussion, especially calling the product scam and such. Did any of you guys shouting hard words even read the questions answered in this thread? https://trisquel.info/en/forum/libretrend-my-vision-free-software Am 7. Right, but the game doesn't exist. Someone has to make it.

I got my Libre Boot MacBook Pro up and running (minus the small wireless dropout issue I mentioned in another thread) and thought you folks might like some pics! I got the sticker to cover the *pple logo from Zazzle. It covers the logo alright, but I made the sticker a little too big so the whole GNU doesn't glow, only his face :'(

With the editors also being free software this isn't a problem. You can ignore the original games and just use the engine/editor to make an entirely new and wholly original games...

Re: [Trisquel-users] What you think of LibreSSL?
gnuser: What are your thoughts on this, should we start using LibreSSL, after all the s*** that has been going on with OpenSSL? I don't know if the APIs for LibreSSL are the same for OpenSSL but modifying programs to use the former could be a big job and ideally would be done by upstream maintainers. From what I've heard LibreSSL is a much more stripped down version of OpenSSL. The OpenSSL project has received more contributions and resources to continue since the event so the reason for LibreSSL isn't as much as it was before. I think it sounds like a good project though. Onpon4 could you please make these JS-avoidance tricks in your Goblin Refuge channel into a text-based tutorial and submit as Trisquel documentation in the wiki? It would be very handy. Thanks!

The first high-end laptop that respects your privacy, security, and freedom. YEAH, RIGHT.. A computer that has a proprietary BIOS and firmware but claims to be The first high-end laptop that respects your privacy, security, and freedom. is a SCAM! They make money from selling laptops that are no more librem that any laptop with an intel integrated graphics card and an Atheros wifi adapter that doesn't require non-free firmware. Fair enough, it definitely is not for all purposes. Just pointing out that if you don't need graphics the board mentioned in the OP can be run totally libre.

[Trisquel-users] Re : What you think of LibreSSL?
https://hamish.gate.ac.uk/posts/2015/01/14/has-nsa-cracked-ssh/ This is the relevant link: I'd be cautious about concluding that, for example, SSH is broken, on the basis of this fragmentary report. Claims of successful decryption of SSH sessions almost certainly don't mean that (a) public key protocols protecting key exchange are broken (GPG would be broken too), or (b) any of the suite of ciphers used by SSH is vulnerable. They could be talking about side-channels, like fooling people into ignoring warnings that server keys have changed, or about sessions initiated from compromised machines.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Librebooted Macbook 2,1
GuixSD? I'd recommend waiting for a stable release. It's a fine OS, but not quite good for a primary one, at least not yet.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Rejected games list
But why exclude a free software engine if it just so happens it can be used as a drop-in replacement for a non-free one if you use assets from an old game? It would make some sence if that was all you could do with it, but in the case of my two examples this is not the case.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Gnewsense and Blag
Blag is active and I tried their 20K alpha release a few months back. Blag 20k is based on Fedora 20... whose support is over.

Re: [Trisquel-users] New Updates: Opensource/Free FPS standalone mod of Xonotic (ChaosEsque) version 57 etc.
Sorry about the defacement. :( I haven't been able to play it yet, but from the pictures it looks great. I'll set up a mirror on my site, if you don't mind-- the SF download is head-bashingly slow. @_@
Re: [Trisquel-users] Tweak your browser to enhance security and privacy
Nice list, added one item to it concerning DRM.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Tweak your browser to enhance security and privacy
Thanks! I kept it out because I thought Abrowser and IceCat don't have DRM support anyway.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Thoughts on Trisquel 7.1 based off of Ubuntu 14.04.3 with release in July or August
Improvements to XFS in the newer kernels is another reason to offer an updated ISO. Why is this important? It's important since Trisquel will format a /home partition to XFS by default and I assume many of you use XFS. I do.
Re: [Trisquel-users] New Updates: Opensource/Free FPS standalone mod of Xonotic (ChaosEsque) version 57 etc.
I'll set up a mirror on my site, if that's alright-- the SF download is head-bashingly slow. @_@ Feel free, :D. Game is fully libre (GPL, CC0,CCBY,CCBYSA, BSD, PubDomain, MIT) and mirrors and fan-made websites are encouraged. (Game doesn't really have it's own regular website, just the entries on the video game sites and the project page). A dream is if someone would make a fan-made website and that could be the official one. Maybe people might even talk on it, make maps, set up matches, spread the game, explore the textures packed into the game, etc. There is also a git-repo-backup uploaded as a split tar.gz file and a supportdvd that has some extra maps that are towns etc, unit test maps, and all the opensource apps used to make the media assets, also: Dev Enviorment in tar.gz: https://sourceforge.net/projects/chaosesquedevenv/ DVD Case and DVD Labels and Extras: https://sourceforge.net/projects/chaoseesquesupplemental/ And it does indeed take forever to upload to sf.net.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Thoughts on Trisquel 7.1 based off of Ubuntu 14.04.3 with release in July or August
Having a release date for the point releases would force the developers to make sure that security updates were done in time. Now, I understand that Trisquel basically has one developer, Ruben, and it's very hard for one man alone to do all this work by himself. Which is kinda funny, seeing as the GNU project never really released a distro themselves that could be said to fulfill the GNU project's purpose, nor do they actually support for real the projects that try to do that. Having more people writing code in Trisquel would certainly help Ruben a lot. He has done a great work with Icecat from what I understand. Wish it was in Debian's repos.
Re: [Trisquel-users] TWM and the missing menu
I run Trisquel 7 with all repos enabled (main, updates, security, backports) and use twm. On installation, menu was listed in the recommended packages, and so I installed it. apt-get found menu fine. It works. By 'not being able to find it in the repo' do you mean *you* couldn't find it in the online package list browser? Do you mean apt-get didn't find the package? Do you mean that an apt search came up blank? Details, please. It would also be useful if you were to post the contents of your apt sources list and config files.
[Trisquel-users] Tweak your browser to enhance security and privacy
Hi! I've just created this documentation page: https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/tweak-your-browser-enhance-security-and-privacy It's basically copypasted from privacytools.io, but I thought it would be useful to have it here. I know these things are controversial, so here's the place to argue about it. Also, feel free to improve it! Ideally we also want to include Midori tips and tricks :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] LibreBox small computer
The first high-end laptop that respects your privacy, security, and freedom. Nowhere on the LibreTrend hardware portal does it actually state this. Nowhere on their website could I actually find this tagline. If this is actually a slogan used by LibreTrend, and you can show me where you found this, I will join you in condemning it as bullshit. librem I wasn't talking about the Purism Librem. I said that you were too quick to condemn the LibreBox as a scam. They (to my knowledge) do not advertise themselves as the aforementioned. They call the LibreBox a 'Free Software-friendly' machine, which it is- just as much as Thinkpenguin. Nowhere do they actually state that the LibreBox has 100% free software (although I agree this is implied). They have not lied. I see no scam. I don't like the project either, especially their recent deal with Ubuntu MATE. This is misleading, and creates the impression that Ubuntu is a free operating system. But Thinkpenguin offer the installation of non-free OSes as well, and, though not as pernicious because at least there is choice, this has the same potential to mislead. Furthermore, this does not contradict any of what LibreTrend market the LibreBox as: a free OS compatible computer.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Rejected games list
LibreGameWiki is designed to help people find games to play, not to help game developers find engines to use. The latter purpose would probably be better served in a place like freegamedev.net.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Thoughts on Trisquel 7.1 based off of Ubuntu 14.04.3 with release in July or August
How do you imagine security updates happen? Most of them come from Ubuntu, and you don't need to wait for a new release for security updates!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Beagle Core
the bbb looks great for running home servers with all libre software
Re: [Trisquel-users] LibreBox small computer
LibreTrend website mentions that it uses BIOS so they are not lying to us.
