Re: [Trisquel-users] Are laser printers suitable for gnulinux?
The lower end laser printers that work with current versions of Trisquel are not freedom respecting and I'd suggest avoiding them. I did spot a color HP laser printer that is coming out that should be low-priced and work with probably the next release of Trisquel. Right now it doesn't work with any GNU/Linux distribution though... so not a good choice yet. As far as b/w laser they're still cheaper than the color laser ones.
[Trisquel-users] Excelent Write Up Of The FCC Story Saga
I just wanted to let people know that we now have *a really well* written up explanation of all the details to point people to for a fuller detailed understanding of the nuances on what is going on with the FCC. It's basically saying exactly what I've been saying. This time with sources cited and all that. It lacks a little detail in a few areas like nothing on Canada/Europe yet- but it distinguishes between the rules that have already passed and the proposed rules and why we need to be concerned and how we're already seeing manufacturers locking down devices. http://prpl.works/2015/09/21/yes-the-fcc-might-ban-your-operating-system/ Don't forget- if you haven't sent in your comments to the FCC please do: www.savewifi.org has directions and tid-bits to help you along the way.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Automating Youtube to Mediagoblin upload ?
Most of the time, people who upload music videos and other videos that focus on copyrighted music are in violation of copyright, regardless of where they upload it to. It's just that so many people do it that the copyright industry can't realistically get rid of them. So instead, they've mostly settled with a system YouTube has in place to let them put ads on the videos.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Automating Youtube to Mediagoblin upload ?
I've made several assumptions: 1/ I thought that some Mediagoblin instances are big enough to partly replace Youtube. seems I was wrong. The generated traffic from opening the link could be quite heavy indeed. 2/ I need some more time to really understand your answers in detail (thanks btw), but the first question that comes to mind is: isn't the act of uploading to Youtube already an act of sideloading? I want to specify that the plan wasn't to make massive migrations to some Mediagoblin instance(s), but a decently limited number of songs for example, which are most likely heavily copyrighted anyway. After all, what's the difference between uploading the latest hit song that I got somewhere on the web (or from a CD), and sideloading it from Youtube?

[Trisquel-users] Trisquel and Ubuntu Phone
Anyone using Trisquel in conjunction with the Ubuntu Phone? At a very minimum I'd lke to be able to sync contacts and calendar with a POP/IMAP email program. Tethering would also be nice, but I'll be satisfied with contacts and calendar.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel and Ubuntu Phone
How could you use Trisquel with it? (Relevant issue: https://trisquel.info/en/issues/14172)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Are laser printers suitable for gnulinux?
I've got an HP laserjet at my home (it's not quite mine admittedly), works great with Trisquel (and it prints out such beautiful things!)
[Trisquel-users] Re : Trisquel 7 on Toshiba NB200 - needs constant mouse movement
The documentation you found is for GRUB 1. Trisquel has been using GRUB 2 for years. The arguments to pass to the Linux kernel (except recovery entries) are to be written in the varibale GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub: https://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub.html#Simple-configuration
Re: [Trisquel-users] Help with new install
I now have 2 HDDs for this machine to play around with. One 80GiB the other 300GiB. As previously mentioned I would like to try other free distros. Would it make sense to install these on separate partitions on the 80GiB drive and use the larger drive as my /home. My thinking/wish is that then this /home is separate from the boot partitions and available to each one (whatever the number) in a cleaner more manageable setup or is this a meaningless cobsideration. Thoughts? Many thanks.
Re: [Trisquel-users] does this computer mainboard comply to fsf requirements?
I'm getting the impression it won't work as a desktop system. Limited ram, something farther down about exposed components, etc. Unsure if there is 3d acceleration of any kind. Not really seeing anything specific about the graphics chipset.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Help with new install
One potential problem with that setup is different distros use different versions of packages. They might have difficulties reading the config files from each others. Probably not a big problem but something to keep in mind in case of trouble.

[Trisquel-users] Are laser printers suitable for gnulinux?
I read a suggestion getting a laser printer, because ink can be used infrequently. I read that samsung ml-1520 mono laser has gnulinux software. Are all ml serie printers gnulinux comparable? Other brands? Are there gnulinux laser printers that can print infrequently? Small as possible. Lowpriced as possible. Second hand. Mono laser or color.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What WiFi speeds can I expect?
OK, the results are in! Here's how I tested: On my local server (connected with gigabit tp to my Asus RT-AC68U) I ran $ cat /dev/urandom | nc -l 1234 and on my X200 I ran $ nc server.ip 1234 > /dev/null I then monitored the speeds with conky and estimated the average speed I was getting. Here's what I got ar5b91 5.5-6 mb/s ar5b92 12.5-13 mb/s ar5b97 11.5-12 mb/s So now I'm using the ar5b92 card and it seems to be performing nicely :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Safety of CommunityCube
i should of said is there a source for the data on the image?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Safety of CommunityCube
Actually unvaluable should just be 'not valuable' or something along those lines. 'Invaluable' means the same thing as valuable (although with a meaning more along the lines of 'indispensable'), in the same way that inflammable means the same thing as flammable.

Yes am using grub apparantly, not changed anything there during install. Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 7 on Toshiba NB200 - needs constant mouse movement
weird /boot/grub/grub.cfg your sure you using grub as the bootloader? it may not be there on the live usb as it may not use grub(not sure)?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 7 on Toshiba NB200 - needs constant mouse movement
Hi, tried with live usb stick Trisquel 7 and it still happens. Apparantly this is a known problem with Toshiba NB200 and I need to edit a grub file, but not sure how to do it. See: http://www.linlap.com/toshiba_nb200 but there is no /boot/grub/grub.conf in Trisqueland even if there was not sure how to add the required parameter.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Are laser printers suitable for gnulinux?
I'm unfamiliar with these printer models personally, but you may be able to find more information here: http://www.h-node.org There are many printers listed that work well with GNU/Linux and free software, hope that helps!
