Re: [Trisquel-users] Stuttering keyboard
I've had the same problem in the past-- updating the kernel did the trick. You should give it a shot: https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/update-linux-libre-kernel
[Trisquel-users] Lethargic application
Executing the Synaptic Package Manager, which I get via the System Settings item on the main menu, involves waiting for a long time before it has finished initializing and returns control to me. It's in the range of 30 seconds. It's connecting to the Internet so determining why this is the case would be difficult. But it is consistent; it happens every time in invoke the program. I have accessed the Package Manager using a Nusence distribution on the same device with very little delay. Any ideas? Paul -- --- Paul A. Crable. Portland, Ore., U.S.A. pac AT kmacpher DOT us
[Trisquel-users] Stuttering keyboard
A few days ago I installed your latest version and have been playing with it ever since. I have noticed that there is a notable delay between typing a string and it appearing on the screen. I also notice that a character gets dropped once in a while. The delay is such that I'm finding it hard to keep my enthusiasm up. Is there a fix for this? I am running on an Intel microprocessor-based PC. The problem did not occur when I was using version 5.0_i686, which I acquired on 12/7/2011. It has never ocurred on any other GNU/Linux system I have used. I will submit a problem report if you wish. Paul --- Paul A. Crable. Portland, Ore., U.S.A. pac AT kmacpher DOT us
Re: [Trisquel-users] Uruk GNU/Linux, someone realeased a fork of Trisquel
AFAIK Uruk is a deblobbed Ubuntu with the MATE DE. If it is too much demanding on your CPU there is something wrong either with your particular hardware or with the OS itself.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Uruk GNU/Linux, someone realeased a fork of Trisquel
quick tip, until they make a lightweight version, do not use this on libreboot, (too much demand on cpu. and that's with 8gb ram.)
Re: [Trisquel-users] I need a G++ 4.9. Where to find it?
I loaded the page thrice because it wasn't connecting quickly enough... whatever.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I need a G++ 4.9. Where to find it?
triple post, we have a winner :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Uruk GNU/Linux, someone realeased a fork of Trisquel
Muhammed ;-) May you open another thread for extra help & don't hesitate to write to the Uruk mailing list https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/installation-troubleshooting http://askubuntu.com/questions/541036/macbook-pro-ubuntu-install-freezes-after-grub-menu http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel is about ethics not technology or innovation
Distro releases, technology, and innovation honestly don't have much to do with each other anyway so.. (besides, the innovation would've arrived in Arch before it does to any fixed-release distro that tries to 'innovate').
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel is about ethics not technology or innovation
I know what you are trying to say. You felt like you had to be vocal about something that has been pretty standard with Trisquel the past few years. Judging from the age of your forum account, you may want to do more research before you accuse others and assume you are correct. I think you are misunderstood about what a Snap package is. It is sandboxed software with all of its dependencies included and is updated more frequently as updates are pushed by the developer. http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2016/04/ubuntu-16-04-lts-snap-packages
Re: [Trisquel-users] Anyone using LibertyBSD? How does it compare to Trisquel?
Looks like LBSD should get it's own forums :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Anyone using LibertyBSD? How does it compare to Trisquel?
Hope I am not being too persistent with my questions, but what hardware did you use to run LBSD? Is there any security difference between a standard Trisquel installation and a standard LBSD installation (in your opinion, from your experience)? Yeah, wish I could cough up some $$$ and get a couple more machines to play around with :) but it's just a fun hobby, hardly a necessity. Right now I need my money to eat and pay rent =)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Laptop too hot - CPU (almost) always at 100%
Thanks, I will give that a try when I get the same behavior again. It doesn't happen everytime, and I have been trying to avoid it honestly ^_^
Re: [Trisquel-users] I need a G++ 4.9. Where to find it?
We know it "fails the test". You are not listening to us or the people on the Github page you linked us to. It is not a problem with GCC but something else. GCC 4.9 won't help. For all the trouble it is just compile G++ 4.9 yourself or use the PPA!

Now I need G++ 4.9 because I need to compile TrinityCore (I found free WoW alternative client).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel is about ethics not technology or innovation
It's about getting the newest cool toy, it's very human. But among people who actually get the job done, they sometimes work with very archaic/simple tools and methods. So it's a fact that Trisquel will always be a bit late. But at least you know what's in there, and why it matters to you. Plus the programs who need a more regular update are taken care of, if I'm not mistaken. I probably misunderstand the difference between an update and getting the next version. But my point is, once you got the tool that fits your needs, don't focus so much on it, just use it for your goals. That's why it's useful, and not a time waster/diversion. Trisquel isn't perfect, but it's pretty solid, and does that while respecting the user.
Re: [Trisquel-users] netinstall; first timer's question
So I'd have to edit my .Xinitrc every time I want to switch. But at this point, installing LightDM or similar would be easier. Hey thanks for the link, it makes me think I need to comment my .xinitrc file (and others). This helps understand what happens. It makes me think that I want to write a startup installation script, just like Crunchbang had (has, I think it still exist with a new name). But I'm not completely done building the system that fits my needs. Hopefully it won't take me too much time anymore.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Anyone using LibertyBSD? How does it compare to Trisquel?
I started the system without the virtual manager and now it defaults to 1024x768 which fits the screen. There is an issue presumably caused by the motif decorations that won't allow the virtual machine full-screen properly.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Anyone using LibertyBSD? How does it compare to Trisquel?
Thanks! xrandr --output default --mode 1024x768 It works, but the Virtual manager gets garbage it I change the default 1280x768. QEMU-kvm issue. Good to know if I ever try on hardware. LibertyBSD looks interesting. And I thought CDE was old school!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Anyone using LibertyBSD? How does it compare to Trisquel?
Try with xrandr
Re: [Trisquel-users] Laptop too hot - CPU (almost) always at 100%
So this is a "suspend/hibernate/whatever" bug. The default kernel comes with a ton of drivers. Many of these will be as removable modules and not baked in. (And for many devices having a driver active means they will be powered on.) You could induce the 100% cpu condition and then lsmod to see what modules there are and then try removing (rmmod) those one by one to see if you can find the culprit that way. If you do, then add the offending module back (modprobe) and see if the condition persists or not. If not, then you could modify the "suspend/hibernate/whatever" scripts to do the module un/loading for you.
