[Trisquel-users] Because of Trisquel 7, I have abandoned Google for DuckDuckGo, its default search.
Unlike Google, it doesn't collect your data, and it is mostly open source. And even better, DuckDuckGo is rapidly growing! https://duckduckgo.com/traffic.html
Re: [Trisquel-users] an observation about YouTube
IE would have to support full screen for the JavaScript video player to take advantage of it? I know almost nothing about coding so I'll defer to your guess. It also seems most likely because it would be pretty bold of YouTube/Google to cut out Microsoft, right?
Re: [Trisquel-users] an observation about YouTube
If you're right, is YouTube's decision contrary to net neutrality? They're not throttling by speed; they're throttling features. This is assuming that there isn't some other explanation, of course. Net Neutrality: "the idea, principle, or requirement that Internet service providers should or must treat all Internet data as the same regardless of its kind, source, or destination" https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/net%20neutrality By the way thanks for the link
Re: [Trisquel-users] an observation about YouTube
I think that it's worth having this kind of discussion. I didn't ask for help to use YouTube, IE, etc. I just wanted to talk about whether Youtube/Google might give its web browser preferential treatment via YouTube. And what the boundaries are, if there are any here.

Mostly spam, which is common.. the unsubscibe link from the eff.org works and is not spyware..;-) You can set rules in your email client https://computing.artsci.wustl.edu/help/194

[Trisquel-users] spy software if you unsubscribe unwanted emails?
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2017/09/phish-future I get emails about selling items. The email senders are unknown to me. There is often an unsubscribe link. Several times I have selected the unsubscribe link. I am not sure it stopped the emails. Is it an error to select the unsubscribe link? It may result in spy software? Thanks.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Uruk GNU/Linux 2.0 (Beta1)
Yes, as Uruk 2 beta 2 is based off Triquel 8-core there are still packages & dependencies missing, which is why you cannot install Gnome (depends on Gnome-core which is not yet available).
[Trisquel-users] Libreboot: CPU upgrade
Would someone kind enough to clarify me cpu upgrades in 3 libreboot laptops: X60S (with S, it´s my model) , X200 and T400. I suppose that X200 and T400 can be upgrade to Intel® Core2 Duo Processor T9000 Series and no better options. In that case the best option is T9900,init ? Any problem with microcode or anything ? https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/processors/core2duo/sb/core_T9000.pdf Thank you very much.

I look up to CalmStorm when it comes to "people skills" and communicating big, complicated issues and I'm not ashamed of that. Great post.
Re: [Trisquel-users] apps
Yes. And i repeat that it is a LibreJS detection mode error or programming error because developers didn't get in mind that their programming model on webs is not used by most people.

Hi MD.Shahidul Islam Try fixing broken packages with synaptic Synaptic>Edit>Fix Broken Packages As HayderCtee pointed out in https://trisquel.info/fr/forum/more-xfce-problems#comment-120971 Not just xfce, gnome and many other packages is broken by default in trisquel 8.0, because fildas repository is not complete, so you should download missing packages manually , some times you should download more than 20 packages( I hope Trisquel team will fix this problem ) Best to stick to default Uruk Mate environment for the moment ;-)
[Trisquel-users] Does the news about the LTS Kernel Provide advantages for Trisquel?
I saw this article stating that the Linux LTS kernel will go from two years of support to six, how does this help/change things for Trisquel? Will there be any impact at all? The article: https://fossbytes.com/linux-kernel-lts-releases-6-years-support/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Should I refuse to buy from Technoethical?
Hi Time4Tea, For me it is a balancing act. I didn't have a free system to begin with (like most people) and as I said I use my system every day for personal and work purposes; I don't buy or use systems just to tinker with. My system needs to be stable, it needs to work, it needs to be complete, and needs to be well supported by a stable community. My goal is to use only free systems, but until free systems can meet those four basic needs I don't see them as an option and I am not willing to undermine those needs to get there. The issue here is that I do not believe the Libreboot/Minifree/Technoethical community is stable and could implode at any time. I am not willing to gamble with my every day tools in the name of software freedom. I will take steps though. I use Trisquel, I have an X200 as my primary computer, and should Libreboot take the steps needed to show me it isn't an unstable one person show where that leader can't seem to not start fires online I will dive in, not a minute sooner. With Libreboot I am looking to see if 1) It rejoins GNU, and 2) The larger management team holds for a period of time with no drama and with growth. Just being endorsed by the FSF doesn't do it for me, it did before the kerfuffle, but now I need to see additional steps. Again, I had a non-free BIOS before so nothing has appreciatively changed for me. Libreboot, or possibly a fork of it is a potentially exciting upgrade path I am watching. I bought my x200 with Libreboot in mind, the kerfuffle caused me to take a wait and see approach. I received my x200 the day Libreboot announced it was pulling out of GNU for context. With Minifree/Technoethical I am unlikely to support them at all. I am unimpressed with the immature leadership of both places. Neither company sells anything that is so unique that I can't get it elsewhere from a more professionally run outlet or simply do it myself. I make these votes with my wallet every day, it is normal marketplace behavior. I hope this helps to clarify my position for you, Be well.
Re: [Trisquel-users] apps
Not exactly, it's a problem of misunderstanding of how JS is supposed to be freed/liberated, and also a misunderstanding of what are DOM/HTML/JS event handlers/listeners. Happens with most web designers nowadays. Re: [Trisquel-users] Uh oh - ArchiveOS listed Trisquel
* About Uruk and Trisquel I agree, perhaps Uruk should rejoin. I don't know the real internals of Uruk, but if it also has means for providing translations for stuff that Trisquel's upstream doesn't have (Ubuntu), then as was stated here in this forum multiple times: the upstream must be improved, not Trisquel, in order to provide these translations. Remember, one can contribute to *free/libre* parts of non-free/libre software *if* a *free/libre* derivation/adaptation already benefits from free/libre part. However, this doesn't mean we must recommend the non-free/libre software to the general public. * About Debian, Ubuntu and Trisquel (and also gNewSense) If I remember correctly, back when Trisquel (and gNewSense) started, and also still today, Debian (and Ubuntu) have/had different goals, not related to the essential freedoms of the software. * GuixSD vs. Guix GuixSD is a system distribution (see the "SD" in the name), but it's not "the" FSF's. The GNU Guix package manager (no "SD") is part of the GNU project, but not a system distribution. dh...@fastmail.com writes: > @time4tea > > The issue is that linux is so fragmented it is difficult to attract > developers for free these days, those skills are in demand. Re: [Trisquel-users] Who of this community honestly runs Trisquel GNU/Linux?
Just to make it clear: You can hire a computer technician to do so, I did this once with one computer, and I'm very glad I hired that person because I don't have good sight. ;) Also, it's perhaps possible to buy an external device that connects to some port such as USB and that does the same thing. hengstli...@gmail.com writes: > But I don't want to ruin my laptop by opening it and replacing the > wireless card > >

In the me_cleaner github wiki there is a lot of documentation. I applied the latest version of the tool that uses this finding: https://github.com/corna/me_cleaner/wiki/HAP-AltMeDisable-bit http://blog.ptsecurity.com/2017/08/disabling-intel-me.html and in the latest iteration the intel me was disabled as documented by Positive Technologies and the partitions of the ME were almost all erased (left BUP and ROMP).
