Re: [Trisquel-users] uruk gnu/linux 2.0 beta-2
Canon Lide 120 was working good using Simple Scan software after install libsane-backends in Uruk 64 bit (beta1). But In 32 bit Uruk (beta2) it is not working correctly. It is working with gimp or xsane. But not working with Simple Scan, gscan2pdf and Skanlite.

Oh Monday, I am present.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Who of this community honestly runs Trisquel GNU/Linux?
Well, I always install Parabola (with KDE) where I can \o/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Who of this community honestly runs Trisquel GNU/Linux?
That's true, once I saw an screenshot and it was running LibreOffice 4! (The same version that Trisquel has in its repos :S)
Re: [Trisquel-users] libreboot flashing t400, raspberry pi to soic wiring?
I have a ThinkPad T400 and also wanted to flash it -in my case- with a Banana Pi M1 (which has the same pins as RPi 2 if I remember) However, I haven't have time for it. I also asked in the IRC and someone gave me some useful links (I'll post them later, I'm not in the PC with the links), it didn't look difficult, to what I recall. BTW, with the Bloberry Pi you do not need extra power supply, that is used for the BBB.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Purism working on libre phone
Thanks by the advice. I really need it to keep safe my desktop PC.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Purism working on libre phone
let's be honest. Qualcomm is following the same way than Realtek in bring more blobs instead of libre drivers as in past times with Atheros chipset. Even is pleasing to Broadcom for spread that practice. Replicant is a serious project that focus the security and privacy over the rest of "unrelated functions". Even I'm surprised of how insane is the state of the hardware manufacturers that are doing the best effort possible for avoid the spread of libre drivers and promote the blob distribution. That's why I don't trust in any company that wants to sells as "the libre mobile offer" when it doesn't be honest with their proceedings. We need a Compaq (the old one, not the actual HP brand) of the smart devices right now!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Purism working on libre phone
Greetings from an HP DC7700 SFF user with a disgraceful surprise (yeah, Intel ME and microcode). The hard job that requires the deleting of the possibility of Intel arbitrary control of the chipset is flashing with a deblobbed Coreboot like Libreboot/Librecore.
[Trisquel-users] Re : mkv2vob Equivalent in Trisquel?
I believe VLC can do that. 'mencoder' too.
[Trisquel-users] mkv2vob Equivalent in Trisquel?
Hello, Is there free software capable of transcoding/converting video files in .mkv to .mpg whilst adding subtitles? On Windows, there is mkv2vob.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Thoughts about Trisquel 8...
GRUB's password (I assume that is what you are talking about) should be removed. The reason is not "to easily boot Windows" but "to easily recover broken systems". Just look at the nine pages of results when searching for "/etc/grub.d/01_PASSWORD" on this site https://trisquel.info/fr/search/node/%252Fetc/grub.d/01_PASSWORD Moreover, GRUB's developers agree the password brings no additional security on most systems: By default, the boot loader interface is accessible to anyone with physical access to the console: anyone can select and edit any menu entry, and anyone can get direct access to a GRUB shell prompt. For most systems, this is reasonable since anyone with direct physical access has a variety of other ways to gain full access, and requiring authentication at the boot loader level would only serve to make it difficult to recover broken systems. However, in some environments, such as kiosks, it may be appropriate to lock down the boot loader to require authentication before performing certain operations. https://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub/html_node/Authentication-and-authorisation.html#Authentication-and-authorisation

If you never type Chinese or Japanese or Korean or Vietnamese or Thai or ... characters, then choose no keyboard input method system in the "Language" tab of "Language support" in the "System Settings". Also, ~/.xinputrc (that is, the hidden file named ".xinputrc" in your home folder) should have "run_im none" and not "run_im xim" (or any other input method). The graphical session may have be restarted for the changes to be effective.
Re: [Trisquel-users] VBOX Additions in Trisquel
OK! I think, for now, I'll use VB, because my computer skills are not that advanced to make QEMU work. When I will move completely to a GNU/Linux system, I will look at it again, if I require it. Is there a beginner's guide anywhere to using Trisquel or similar fully free GNU/Linux distributions? I have questions about what I am able or not able to do on such systems.
[Trisquel-users] Re : VBOX Additions in Trisquel
Well, one wouldn't say that a command-line interface is as easy as VB true, Virt Manager is more user friendly and similar to VB There is a MacOS Template (but i'm not sure) https://github.com/tobimensch/aqemu https://sourceforge.net/projects/aqemu/ Add/Remove Applications" feature contains only free software? Yes !
Re: [Trisquel-users] VBOX Additions in Trisquel
Well, a command-line interface isn't exactly as easy as VB. I quick search online for Aqemu for macOS didn't give me any results. Does it exist? By the way, on Trisquel, the "Add/Remove Applications" feature contains only free software?
Re: [Trisquel-users] VBOX Additions in Trisquel
You need those packages (build-essential & module-assistant) to build kernel modules. They are missing in the default set of Trisquel.
[Trisquel-users] Re : VBOX Additions in Trisquel
yes, Qému is command line but there is Aqemu ( Qt5 graphic) -- I bark but don't bite Aritophanes ;-)
Re: [Trisquel-users] VBOX Additions in Trisquel
I installed QEMU (https://www.qemu.org/), after having installed Homebrew (https://brew.sh/). Does QEMU operate only through the command line?
Re: [Trisquel-users] I finally managed to install Trisquel 8 :D I'm made it! Here's how I did it.

I did it, and it worked! Thank you loldier!

Re: [Trisquel-users] ibus
If I remember correctly, you can go to: Trisquel menu -> System configuration -> Keyboard -> Keyboard shortcuts tab -> Typing category ... and look for the shortcut there. If you can't find it, please tell us. sigd...@gmail.com writes: > ibus input mehtod is necessary for writing in bengali. Bengla is my > mother language. Re: [Trisquel-users] VBOX Additions in Trisquel
Then you run the VBOX installation script again, and it should complete succesfully.
[Trisquel-users] Re : VBOX Additions in Trisquel
try it before saying ''it does not seem to" because honestly it's as easy as VB, + Qému KVM
Re: [Trisquel-users] VBOX Additions in Trisquel
Hello Mangy Dog, You probably mean "Free as in Free [Speech]". I am aware that VBox is non-free software. Per my first post, at the moment, I am using macOS, and I am seriously considering replacing it with a free OS. Before I am in the position of doing that, I need to try the free OS (Trisquel) out. As far as I'm aware, VBox is the closest software to freedom on macOS, so that is why I am using it. Virt Manager does not seem to run on macOS.
Re: [Trisquel-users] VBOX Additions in Trisquel
Hello loldier, I ran the command, and its execution was successful. How should I proceed?
Re: [Trisquel-users] VBOX Additions in Trisquel
Try this: sudo apt-get install build-essential module-assistant
Re: [Trisquel-users] VBOX Additions in Trisquel
Hello davidnotcoulthard, It does indeed! I inputted the new command, and the Terminal gave me this output. As you might've guessed, I am still very much a learner, so any kind of assistance is appreciated.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Enigmail won't install
SOLVED! Earlier, installing via Thunderbird caused problem which is why one (at least me) would install via terminal in the first place. In desperation I tried that approach again and voila! It is apparently fixed. BTW, can I mark the thread as solved in the title?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Enigmail won't install
Thanks, I should have stated that: Yes, I have installed gnupg2 and checked for broken packages of which there were none
[Trisquel-users] Re : Enigmail won't install
did you install gnupg2 first (like tyhe last time?) Synaptic>Edit>Fix Broken Packages
[Trisquel-users] Enigmail won't install
I have had this issue before, and I have solved it before (with the help of others, thanks) but I never figured out what was actually the problem - and hence why it was solved. Now I have the problem again, and I still can't figure out how to solve it. The symptom is the following: ~$ sudo apt-get install enigmail [sudo] password for gnubahn: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: enigmail : Depends: thunderbird (>= 38.0) or seamonkey (>= 2.35) but it is not installable E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. My Thunderbird is version 38.8.0 so whu am I having this issue and how can I solve it?
[Trisquel-users] Re : Thoughts about Trisquel 8...
security measure that prevents you to boot Windows or any other GNU/Linux It's the other way round Windows restricts user freedom by making it dificult to boot and install other operating systems https://www.fsf.org/campaigns/secure-boot-vs-restricted-boot https://fsf.org/windows8 As for the lanuguage issue, thats unfortunate, i have encountered this sometimes, but adding your prefered language after works fine. You may be interested in Uruk GNU/Linux Project which has Arabic developers team, the latest release is based off Trisquel 8-core with Mate Desktop Environment, i can't say Arabic language support works out of the box as i don't master that language ;-) latest release : https://trisquel.info/fr/forum/uruk-gnulinux-20-beta-2 Uruk Project https://urukproject.org/dist/ar.html
