@mason @Magic Banana Thanks to both of you!

[Trisquel-users] Re : few questions before installing
Complementing mason's answers: 1. I have "Intel Corporation HD Graphics 630 (rev 04)" (according to 'lspci' and went through the issues you mentioned when I was using Trisquel 7's X server (the latest kernel made no difference). There is no such problem with Trisquel 8. 4. You may (or not) want to use the NetInstall, if you do not plan to use the default MATE desktop environment (and do not want to have two applications for a same task). Welcome! :-)
[Trisquel-users] Re : GIMP exporting PDFs
You can use the 'pdfunite' command, which is installed by default (at least in Trisquel 8).

I have a script saved somewhere that I use each time I install Trisquel. I'll post it when I get home. Your script would help me a lot. I appreciate that.

Icecat has LibreJS installed by default. Abrowser does not. [Trisquel-users] few questions before installing
I have a few questions before installing Trisquel, after I recently decided to do the switch from Debian. 1) Is Intel HD Graphics 630 supported? (was told to install proprietary firmware on Debian to fix tearing issues and such) 2) Will Trisquel security updates include patches for the Intel vulnerabilities, including patches for Spectre-NG? 3) What would be the correct way to install i3-gaps via tty after a minimal Trisquel install? 4) What would be the correct way to install XFCE via tty after a minimal Trisquel install? 5) Do Icecat and Abrowser both rely on LibreJS, or is there an alternative? Thanks in advance.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Speaker's corner for those of us who donate at associate member level, but aren't being considered as such, because of paypal
No, I haven't tried sending an email.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Speaker's corner for those of us who donate at associate member level, but aren't being considered as such, because of paypal
From the Trisquel "Donate" page: If you want your donation to be publicly shown in our site, remember to press the "go back to Trisquel GNU/Linux" link at the end of the PayPal payment process. If you make a deposit in our account you can contact with us and we will manually add your donation to the list. Have you tried sending an email? I would expect that it works analogous to the one-time donations - I imagine it's hard to automatically have bank transfers trigger the membership status (for lack of a better world).
[Trisquel-users] Speaker's corner for those of us who donate at associate member level, but aren't being considered as such, because of paypal
So, I donate at associate membership level, and because I don't have paypal, I pay by back transfer, which means that I'm not considered as an associate member. I can't believe I'm the only one, am I?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Orca screen reader eating all my ram!
I think it better have to have assistive technologies enabled by default than disabled, but this seems to be a very common question. I can think of a few possible solutions - have a separate ISO with which assistive technologies are enabled by default during and after installation - have an option in the graphical installer to disable assistive technologies - have a pop-up on first log in to set accessibility options For now, there is a documentation page explaining how to uninstall Orca. https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/disabling-orca-screen-reader I think it is better to disable Orca than to uninstall gnome-orca, because gnome-orca is a dependency of the trisquel metapackage. In fact, gnome-app-install will refuse to uninstall gnome-orca (and any other package that is a dependency of trisquel) unless the trisquel metapackage has been removed via Synaptic or a terminal. signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Re: [Trisquel-users] Proposal: Update "Enable DVD Playback"
Not only the Unites States, don't forget the so-called "Free Trade Agreements". USA can impose draconian laws like DMCA on other countries.
[Trisquel-users] GIMP exporting PDFs
The GIMP imports multi-page PDFs but does not export them. Could somebody fix this? The GIMP really helped me scribble over a PDF. http://smallbusiness.chron.com/exporting-pdf-gimp-48412.html
Re: [Trisquel-users] Midory outdated
No, Cinnamon is not supposed to be "light". It's based on GNOME 3.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Orca screen reader eating all my ram!
> Turn it off at Startup applications, then reboot. Aha! That did it, and is a much better solution than having to kill the process every time I reboot. Thanks for this!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Proposal: Update "Enable DVD Playback"
DMCA is the reason libdvdcss must be a separate dowload. If Ubuntu can include libdvd-pkg, so can Trisquel. Is there anything to prevent this freedomwise?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Midory outdated
There's also a Cinnamon desktop similar to MATE which both are GNOME forks, as compared to LXQt or MATE is Cinnamon really light? I have some nostalgia reason using Cinnamon from which I was still running nonfree Linux Mint, that's the system developing Cinnamon desktop.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Midory outdated
Of course LXDE/LXQt is lighter, but MATE is light enough. I run Trisquel 8 (default settings) on a twelve years old ThinkPad Z61t and everything is smooth enough.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Proposal: Update "Enable DVD Playback"
My only concern is that libdvdcss might violate DMCA (Domination by Media Company Act) in the United States... So be careful to enable it by default.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Orca screen reader eating all my ram!
>"Unfortunately, even with these options disabled (as shown in the attached screenshot), it still jabbered away to itself." I have seen this happen. Orca is buggy. Last time I installed T8 Orca misbehaved as usual. I couln't turn it off easily no matter what I did. Then I uninstalled it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Proposal: Update "Enable DVD Playback"
Trisquel should take up Ubuntu's libdvd-pkg method. Libdvd-pkg has been there since Ubuntu 15.10. Until it does, use the Videolan repo method. https://trisquel.info/en/forum/libdvd-pkg-trisquel-8 https://trisquel.info/en/forum/problems-dvd-video-reading-flidas https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/PlayingDVDs
