try going to file:/// and then clicking on media, then the next folder, until
you get to the file you wanted to open.

that will save you the hassle of typos. you can probably drag the file onto
the url bar (or browser window) as well.

you can probably drag the file to the bookmarks bar and then click on the
bookmarks. good luck.

this table says it doesnt have a path limit:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_file_systems

the filename limit is 255 bytes.

youll want to show the error you got.

even though the filesystem doesnt have a limit, its possible you found one in
a program. this seems unlikely, but without more information...

Thank you for the link!
I also distrust my keyboard skills and therefore I haven't ruled typos out.
But I also suspect of the shallowness of my knowledge on links and on the way
in which I configured the storage media I am using.
I am trying to gather evidence about these factors and eventually submit them
here in the forum for consideration.

And thank you very much for your thoughts!

it would be an interesting way to stretch the battery usage

I do not understand the rationale: the large program has to be read from the
disk to be loaded into main memory.

if more ram = less swap = less hdd use and the hdd uses way more power than
the ram, then installing more ram could save battery.

A system that sometimes runs short of RAM in normal conditions (I am not
talking about a malfunctioning program that is leaking memory) is unbearably
slow. Whether the computer has a battery or not, her owner should should
definitely buy more RAM: for her nerves!

"the larger the program size, the more ram used which means...

More battery life used."

im having a difficult time figuring out the likelihood that youre right about
this. it would be an interesting way to stretch the battery usage:
https://superuser.com/questions/738848/does-more-ram-usage-cause-more-battery-usage

if more ram = less swap = less hdd use and the hdd uses way more power than
the ram, then installing more ram could save battery. im sceptical that only
the ram "used" by the os gets refreshed as well. doubly so with the kind of
caching and buffering of ram the kernel is known for.

but maybe, less ram used = less swap used = less hdd used, and still saves
battery. but not because it uses less ram per se-- because it uses the hdd
less! https://www.invidio.us/watch?v=3EkBuKQEkio

its incredible how much of the iso is just locales. ive watched icons reach
absurd proportions too. to the point where im like: do we even need icons?

i get that some people want icons. i havent consider icons useful in ages.
when the old expected size of a distro is 0.6gb (note: thats still my goal
for live iso size. i got trisquel down from 2.5 to 1.3 so far) and the icons
take up more than 10% of a cd, i think maybe we should be switching to 32x32
max and scale the rest.

by all means, put the rest in an "icon upgrade" pack so you can have nicer
icons. theyre bloating up the iso now. i also understand that people like you
and me with concerns like this are in the minority. i dont expect trisquel to
cater to this.

Not quite, I do care about program size.

Because most likely, the larger the program size, the more ram used which
means...

More battery life used.

And that I care about a whole lot.

It boggles the mind that so many "light" or in Trisquel's case "mini" distros
can't fit on a cd anymore. All I want is a base system, reasonable window
manager, and the ability to install what I want via wifi out of the box. I've
taken to mini-ISO's and net-install so I can opt into the footprint I want as
opposed to opting out of a footprint I never asked for.

Thank you for trying to help.
I have made so many attempts to solve the problem and changes in the address
of the starting link that currently when I click on it I'm not receiving an
error screen and I am able to access folders that have a much longer path
than the one with which the problem began.

For example if the starting link was:

href="file:///media/trisquel/STORE%20N%20GO/YA16G5708003700ATL/IT/GENERAL/SOFTWARE/UNIX/LINUX/TRISQUEL/DOWNLOAD/FLIDAS/BURN/IRC/PIDGIN/LOGS_OF_CHATS/#TRISQUEL/2018-10-10_16h53.html">
this is the current starting link

my Abrowser would ask me to check the path's spelling and the content of the
last folder and to try again.

The error only disappeared with a shorter starting link like this:

href="file:///media/trisquel/STORE%20N%20GO/YA16G5708003700ATL/IT/GENERAL/SOFTWARE/UNIX/LINUX/TRISQUEL/DOWNLOAD/FLIDAS/">
this is a shorter starting link

Now, with the current starting link, though Abrowser shows me what can be
seen in the attachment; that is not what I'm expecting. I'm looking forward
to see the contents of 2018-10-10_16h53.html. But I don't know if that is
possible and (if it is) how to achieve it.

There is something else that has changed since my first post: I'm not so sure
that this is a problem related to a long path.

I'm eager to know about your point of view.

Thanks in advance.

I'm getting an error and I don't know if long paths are compatible with

This is what I would like to know:
Does Flidas have some limit regarding the length of the paths that are used

im a fan of pypy but it seems like you should be using cpython. do you have
pip installed? i believe it is available in trisquel.

pypy is also available under trisquel. you can install both-- trisquel
already includes python 7.

in fact im not sure you actually need to install anything that doesnt already
come with trisquel by default.

id recommend skipping this step and moving past python installation since
trisquel probably comes with what you need. but let me know how that works
out.

note that mit opencourseware isnt under a proper oer license (they use nc,
oer really shouldnt do this) and may include non-free software as well. but
so far, we have only spoken about python which is free.

let me know if you have trouble with the next part. i have not done what you
are trying to do.

I have linked other .HTML documents before without problems.
I currently don't recall the deepness at which they were located.

For example, I would say that initrd.img is not deeply located in the file
structure because its location is /

I would also say that it is located in the first level of deepness.

On the other hand, I would say that dao.h 's location is quite deep, because
its location is /usr/include/libspreadsheet-1.12/spreadsheet/tools/

I would also say that it is located in the 6th level of deepness.
