Re: [Trisquel-users] Best way to watch Youtube videos?
Why do you suppose that?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Why does installing Trisquel 7 updates cancel my sound system?
Performing those steps did not result in any sound. I should add that when I start the computer and the login screen shows up, the sound that is supposed to play still plays.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Best way to watch Youtube videos?
Yes, but in that case my machine would have to run Javascript to get the comments from the Youtube page right?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel on Arm? Pinebook Pro running Trisquel? Trisquel Touch?
I thought there were no modern laptop that can boot on libreboot... Would it not be better to be able to install Trisquel on a computer you can trust from boot with the only compromise of using a usb-wifi adapter? I might have miss something there.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Suspend / halt not working anymore after a Software Updater launch
Those are all 4.4 kernels. Since my first post in thread, I have been suggesting to try a more recent kernel such as the one you get installing the "linux-generic-hwe-8.0" package (a 4.15 kernel).

Oh, ok. I didn't know that, thanks. But what about if you run it in your own computer then?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Suspend / halt not working anymore after a Software Updater launch
Suspend/hibernate is often a problem with Linux (the kernel), and when it does/doesn't work seems to be hardware-specific. This is an issue in Ubuntu as well. Trisquel's kernel is created by running a script[1] which automatically removes the proprietary blobs from Ubuntu's kernel, so if this kernel version is indeed causing your problem it is not something that will get addressed on Trisquel's issue tracker. We need to keep troubleshooting on your hardware. There is some chance that the kernel is not the problem. To find out, try suspending and hibernating from a terminal. To suspend: $ sudo pm-suspend and to hibernate: $ sudo pm-hibernate See if either of those works and let us know. Re: [Trisquel-users] Best way to watch Youtube videos?
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I still have one question though, how do these various choices operate searches? I mean, Invidious doesn't have an index file with all Youtube videos, right? So, search queries have to be directed at the Youtube site... hum... so they record which IP uses each search query... But how do Invidious get to read comments for example? DO they parse the html code? I think that would require Javascript, right? If so, these apps would be doing the same.

I have already tried with different kernels: - the functionality with the 4.4.0-139-lowlatency release (and below) worked - the functionality with the 4.4.0-142-lowlatency release stopped working - the functionality with the 4.4.0-143-lowlatency release does not work neither
Re: [Trisquel-users] Best way to watch Youtube videos?
youtube-dl, mpv, mps-youtube is my youtube arsenal.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Best way to watch Youtube videos?
Minitube is a good one, it's been around since somewhere around 2012 I believe. The GNU/Linux version is free (Win/Mac versions are not, for some reason), and the source code is publically available. https://flavio.tordini.org/minitube https://github.com/flaviotordini/minitube The pre-compiled package available on the homepage should be easily installable as it's a .deb package. (sudo dpkg -i minitube.deb)

It was recently discussed here: see https://trisquel.info/forum/electron-again#comment-139322 an below.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Best way to watch Youtube videos?
What about Electron? I remember some controversy over that but never understood the fuss. Thanks, I will check youtube-viewer.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Best way to watch Youtube videos?
> So, FreeTube is a good option then? I've never used it, but it looks good (depending on your stance regarding Electron). I've found youtube-viewer[1] useful as well. It has both a cli interface and a GTK interface. [1] https://github.com/trizen/youtube-viewer signature.asc Description: PGP signature
Re: [Trisquel-users] Best way to watch Youtube videos?
Thanks! Yeah, I also think that way. But at the same time, I know that curl has the option to provide a specific http header and user agent (fake one if needed). So I suppose a server will still see more than just "this IP wants this file". You are right however in the cookie thing, that is probably done only through a browser session. So, FreeTube is a good option then?

[Trisquel-users] Re : Suspend / halt not working anymore after a Software Updater launch
Hello Magic Banana, I have read your comment a few days ago and now I am taking the time to thank you for your description. I am afraid to switch to a generic kernel and because my system is perfectly working (for example: any freeze or problem with memory...) I am going to stay with the low-latency, which seems to be convenient to me :-) I am going to open an issue regarding the suspend / halt issue. Best regards.
