I'm on Trisquel 9.

I get the same "unable to locate" and "package not found" with
'linux-image-amd64'.

Whereas 'linux-image-generic' yields results.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel software update broke my WiFi connection

2020-08-21 Thread amenex

The "updated laptop" is till giving me cause for worry ...

Today about noon, after letting the laptop run a big script grepping an even
larger set of data files, I returned to find
the wifi dongle uncooperative, but after considerable editing and swapping my
two dongles back & forth, I managed to
obtain a reliable wireless reconnection to the router. I then applied the
Disconnect function, unplugged the dongle, and

went about my business.

An hour later, I looked at the "Edit Connections" function, and to my
surprise, there were three SSID's listed:

Wi-FiLast Used
SSID4 2 now
SSID4 1 1 hour ago
SSID4 1 month ago

The upper two of these are news to me. My active SSID is SSID4, not SSID4 1
or SSID4 2.

Where should I look for information about this behavior ?

Hm. What's is the output of

$ apt policy linux-image-amd64

and

$ apt depends linux-image-amd64

Doesn't matter. It's commented out.

No hopelessness here :) I may attempt the SPI flash method to at least knock
out the whitelist. As far as Coreboot, I am not holding my breath for how
long that may take to get 100% working. I know I could probably donate my
laptop to th cause but I currently use it as my main computer :)

Thanks for the info on the WIFI card though. I at least own it and can use it
in the future possibly.

There is no Boot Guard on W541, and our community members are working on it.

We already have coreboot implementation for T440p, which is very close to
T540p, W540 and W541, and only requires minimal modification. Don't give up
hope.

As far as I understand, the package named libgtk2.0-0 in Trisquel's
repository provides GTK+ 2. With the regular edition of Trisquel (using
MATE), it is installed by default.

I have a Thinkpad W541. I don't see it in the list of supported boards:
https://coreboot.org/status/board-status.html

I have read some things about removing the whitelist in the BIOS, but it
seems a bit risky.

I never said it was impossible to get this working :)

I'm open to try to get this working, but I think it would cost money + risk
of bricking my laptop. Right now I don't know if I care to take that risk.

I have been working on building a desktop and if that goes well, I may
consider "gaining experience" with doing this proceedure on my laptop.

Shit, that's a troublesome issue. I think I have to create and spread a
common useful English word such as motenai to discribe unpopular men ideally
throughout the whole world then. I am going to paint one. Thank you anyway. I
will search for the word to describe unpopular men in other languages too.
By the way, if you are "motemote", that means you are super popular with
girls/women, you don't have to make so much an effort to undress girls
because the women side undresses themselves, if I borrow Kenji Nakagami's
cool expression again[1]. If you are said "kimoi" from girls, that means
"creepy", you are physiologically unacceptable. I think the first step is to
stop peeping or tracking or other creepy activities but it would be
inherently impossible so there is no chance, unfortunately, for both. Shit,
please do something.
