I should have looked first, of course. No Trisquel version exists based on
Ubuntu 18.04, so I shall have to wait. Drat.

[Trisquel-users] Possible to trisquelize Xubuntu 18.04.2 LTS ?

2019-05-12 Thread brashley46
I just invested in a new laptop, built on an Acer Aspire system by
TheLinuxLaptop. I really wanted to get Trisquel installed but had to settle
for Xubuntu. I'm thinking now of Trisquelizing the Xubuntu partition on the
machine now (80% of the hard drive, the other 20% is a Windows 10 partition I
need for financial reporting for my party's constituency association to
Elections Ontario and Elections Canada.) Is this still doable?

So you installed the beta image, or one of them.

Finally got it done. Thanks again, all.

I will try the suggestions in that thread. Thanks!

[Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8 mini upgrade stalling

2018-05-12 Thread brashley46

Hi ...
I have tried the upgrade-via-software-updater repeatedly, and it refuses to
get beyond telling me I can't because I have software from other sources
installed. This makes no difference when I am installing an update to xUbuntu
on my desktop; as Trisquel is also debian-ubuntu based I have no idea why
this occurs. I have filed a bug but nobody is answering it.
My old EeePC is the platform I want to install on, it runs Trisquel Mini 7
with no problem. At the moment, the old machine does not even want to boot up
from USB stick and install that way.
Do I really have to uninstall Calibre, Megasync, Dropbox, etc., and reinstall
after the upgrade?

2018-05-12 Thread brashley46
I personally avoid using Paypal, for one supreme reason, which is political:
The Israeli settlers in the internatilally-recognised-to-be-illegal
settlements on the West Bank are allowed to use Paypal. Palestinians legally
resident in the West Bank, in those areas remaining to them, are not. This
discrimination is not acceptable.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Using Xubuntu Components in Trisquel 9

2017-12-14 Thread brashley46
I agree ... I use Xubuntu on my desktop, and it has got a bit porky. The
latest install erased all my saved data, luckily I had backed up most of the
really essential stuff to my cloud servers. (I use 3 of them.)

Re: [Trisquel-users] Who of this community honestly runs Trisquel GNU/Linux?

2017-09-18 Thread brashley46
I run Trisquel 7 Mini on my old EeePC HD1000 netbook. Works fine, although
the wifi antenna is no longer working ... I use an ethernet connection at
home, and I can tether it to my phone when I am out of the house with it.

2017-03-13 Thread brashley46
That depended critically on who exactly were the /Demos/, the people. You
were not a member of the demos unless your grandfather had been, and you were
male, and you were free. No /metic/ could vote in the Assembly, i.e. those
who were not citizens by birth and descent; they were considered resident
aliens no matter how many generations they had been in Athens. I'm not aware
of a property qualification under the democracy, or Socrates would not have
had the vote, he was a sandalmaker, a craftsman.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Does anyone else found Abiword utterly useless?

2017-02-07 Thread brashley46
Yeah, Abiword is twice as fast as LibreOffice in opening a .doc document on
this netbook ... makes no difference to me, LO can do so much more that it
is worth it.

2017-02-07 Thread brashley46
Ah, okay, mine is the 1000HE ... not sure what else will fit your situation.
Midori works for me on Facebook etc., it just has this certificate issue with
trisquel.info

Re: [Trisquel-users] Certificate error while trying to access trisquel.info with Midori

2017-02-07 Thread brashley46
Icecat works, at least on this site, and it runs on my old EeePC, so will
probably run well on your old netbook too. That is interesting about the
Midori version in Trisquel 7 ...

Re: [Trisquel-users] Flidas and Abrowser

2017-02-07 Thread brashley46
In Midori it won't get beyond the certificate issue. Screenshot attached. If
I click on "trust this website" I get sreenshot2.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Flidas and Abrowser

2017-02-07 Thread brashley46
Yesterday and today I get that response in Midori; in Icecat it works just
fine. Other sites are loading well in Midori. Maybe the website certificate
is incompatible with Midori/Abrowser?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Does anyone else found Abiword utterly useless?

2017-02-07 Thread brashley46
Always struck me as kinda clumsy. LibreOffice runs well enough and quickly
enough even on this old EEEpc with Trisquel 7 Mini, why would I want limp
along in AbiWord?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Mega Sync Cloud

2016-11-23 Thread brashley46
I'm using it too. I downloaded the version for Ubuntu 14.04, asa that is the
version Trisquel 7 is based on, more or less.
I had to download the .deb on my desktop and import it to my netbook, as
neither Midori nor Icecat will connect to mega.nz .
