Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel mini 4 or else
I had this problem a few years ago. I took the hard drive out of the laptop I installed it on and put it in a laptop that reports PAE as a CPU feature. The first laptop actually supports PAE, but it doesn't correctly announce it as a feature. If your laptop really doesn't support PAE, then this may not work. I then installed Trisquel 6 (the latest available then) and then installed a package called fake-pae. I swapped out the drive and it booted fine. I never tried booting it without the fake-pae package, so I don't know if it would have worked without it or not. Here's the thread I made for reference: https://trisquel.info/en/forum/boot-trisquel-computers-without-pae
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel mini 4 or else
I just tested some Trisquel discs on the same laptop. The version that didn't boot was 6.0. I was able to boot up 6.0.1 just fine. Trisquel 7 will only boot if you pass a "forcepae" boot parameter. To do that, press F6 after choosing your language on the CD boot screen. Press escape, and you will notice the boot parameter text appear near the bottom of the screen. Select the option you want to boot into (live, install, etc.) Move the cursor to the left of the double-dash (--) and add "forcepae" to make the end of the parameters look like this: previousparameter forcepae -- Press enter, and it should start booting.

Or maybe there's actually myths that need to be debunked... :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] is usb 3.0 software free software?
I'd guess tonlee is referring to the drivers in the kernel that operate a USB 3.0 flash drive, for example.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Does the raspberry pi and its accessories meet free software/hardware standards?
The official distro, Raspbian, comes with many proprietary programs by default. Mathmatica, Wolfram Alpha, Java (Not the free version, IcedTea,) and Minecraft. There may be more that I'm not aware of. That doesn't even count the proprietary firmware on it that lembas mentioned.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Old Fashioned Tiled Wallpaper
Yes. It's called Make Seamless. It's in Filters --> Map --> Make Seamless.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Ubuntu "Spyware" Will Be Disabled In Ubuntu 16.04
If you install Debian without entering a root password during the installation, sudo will be enabled. The wireless may have been glitchy because Debian doesn't come with proprietary drivers out of the box and the free ones don't work too well, assuming it worked fine in Ubuntu with the proprietary drivers.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Updates?
You could check how often your computer checks for updates. Open up System Settings, then Software & Updates. Go to the Updates tab and see what "Automatically check for updates:" is set to.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel for PowerPC
I don't think creating a PowerPC build is a simple task. Debian already has a PowerPC build. Perhaps you could try that.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Forum action needed (and temporary measures taken)
I think it's funny too, but it takes the messages out of context. It may reflect poorly on the user's reputation for comments like the example I gave, to the uninitiated reader.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Forum action needed (and temporary measures taken)
I agree. I'd rather have some more advanced forum software here like PHPBB or Simple Machines, anyway.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Forum action needed (and temporary measures taken)
After deleting a certain user's posts it now looks like Magic Banana is giving a curt reply to Chris that has nothing to do with Chris' post. (Image below.) I'm sure there's many other examples. This may be a consequence of the forum software used, but it would be nice to have the offending posts replaced with Post deleted by a moderator or something similar.

Abrowser 39 crashes on my 32-bit Trisquel 6 machine as well.
Re: [Trisquel-users] 'Abrowser' behaves strangely after a system update.
Abrowser 39.0 on Trisquel 7 doesn't work at all. I tried launching it three times and every time it shows the window that checks for add-on compatibility then it crashes. ~$ abrowser (process:6389): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed (abrowser:6389): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::sm-connect after class was initialised (abrowser:6389): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::show-crash-dialog after class was initialised (abrowser:6389): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::display after class was initialised (abrowser:6389): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::default-icon after class was initialised 1437273586327 addons.repository WARNSearch failed when repopulating cache Segmentation fault A few more times of trying to launch it, then a window appears offering me the options of starting Abrowser in safe mode or refreshing the browser, which is really a complete reset of the browser. I started it in safe mode and the main window appeared for a few seconds, then it crashed. I think it exited with a segmentation fault.

That's great. I was waiting for when they would publish the videos so I won't have to watch the unedited streamdumps.

Never mind, I'll do it today. :-) I installed it in my ~/.themes/ directory, and was able to change the GTK theme, but not the window or icon themes. Is this theme supposed to include icons, or do I have to install them elsewhere to get the look in the preview image?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Bypassing JavaScript Requirements
I made a stylesheet for YouTube that automatically expands the description box under the video for you so you don't have to do it manually every time by editing the page. To use it, first install Stylish. https://trisquel.info/en/browser/addons/stylish After restarting your browser, open the Add-ons Manager and navigate to the User Styles tab. Click the Write New Style button and paste the contents of this file (https://notabug.org/ssdclickofdeath/descriptiontube/raw/master/descriptiontube.css) into the code editor. You will need to manually name the script DescriptionTube in the small text box above. Click on the save button, and the script should now be active. Here is the link to the NotABug.org page. https://notabug.org/ssdclickofdeath/descriptiontube

Re: [Trisquel-users] Project: Starfighter
For some reason I assumed the SDL2 source included that. I installed those libraries and successfully compiled Starfighter. After running it I get odd warnings in the terminal, such as: nvfx_screen_get_param:95 - Warning: unknown PIPE_CAP 30 A window titled Starfighter appears, but it is completely black except for the top title bar. I know that my laptop has poor OpenGL support with the free drivers, but I wasn't aware of any SDL issues.

Yes, this happens to me too, including onpon4's mention of the cursor disappearing. I just tried out Mousepad. I notice it has many similar features to gedit, but is a fork of Leafpad.

Re: [Trisquel-users] LIBRE PLANET 2015 is here....!!

[Trisquel-users] Saving Gitorious repositories
I am trying to save some Gitorious repositories before Gitorious shuts down. I am working on modifying a script that batch-downloads GitHub repositories to work with Gitorious instead. https://gist.github.com/ssdclickofdeath/34855c86910b63c50413 (Please don't tell me GitHub is proprietary. It's the best place I can put the script for now.) The problem is, the script only downloads the first repository. For example, with this command: ./gitorious.sh copyleft-org/ssdclickofdeaths-tutorial jxself/ssdclickofdeath-digits The script only downloads the first repository. How can I get this to work properly?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Saving Gitorious repositories
As far as I know, Gitorious users have to opt-in (and become a paying customer) to have their code moved to GitLab. In case you misunderstood, I'm not going to put a mirror of the repositories on GitHub, I am just hosting the script there.

Yes, unlike Android, most programs running on an unmodified Trisquel system are not sandboxed. I think Abrowser is sandboxed using apparmor.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
Because this sounds like a troll post, I will respond with a troll reply. Open GIMP, click on the menu option File--Create--Screenshot. Check the radio button with the caption Take a screenshot of the entire screen, then press the Snap button. Use the menu option Image--Scale Image... Make sure the unit of measure is in pixels, then enter 100 in the height box, with the constrain (the chains next to the number boxes) on. Click on the constrain to turn it off, and enter a number in the width box roughly double its present value, then click on the Scale button. In GIMP 2.6, click on the menu option File--Save As..., but in GIMP 2.8, click on the File--Export... menu option instead. Choose the filename and location to save to, then open the hidden list near the bottom of the window with the Select File Type (By Extension) caption. Near the top should be ASCII Art. Click on it, then press Save. Make sure the selection box reads Text File, then press Save. Open the file in a text editor and paste it here.

[Trisquel-users] Qrgui - a GUI-based QR code generator
I have been casually writing a small program for nearly a year, a GUI-based QR code generator imaginatively titled Qrgui. It is only a bash script less than 120 lines long that passes arguments to qrencode, a commmand-line based QR code generator, but it is a lot easier to use than qrencode itself. I worked on it to gain experience running a small free software project, to learn bash scripting, and to learn how to use git. It has helped me in all of those things. Thanks to all who gave me scripting pointers on early versions of the script in this thread: https://trisquel.info/en/forum/front-end-qrencode Qrgui is hosted at Savannah. https://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/qrgui Direct download: https://cloud.openmailbox.org/public.php?service=filest=78e9a2029f9cfda8ad1674d8ae9e0a9bdownload Please try it out if you are interested, and feel free to post constructive criticism.
