Re: [Trisquel-users] MTP For Android

The WiFi part is ok, have no problem carrying an adapter. Its just that I
have lots of music stored on a 256gb SD card and all replicant phones don't
support that size. I did think about getting a replicant phone and a
dedicated DAP for music but all of them have proprietary software and that
would defeat the purpose. It seems now for me that Lineage OS is the only
most free option.I guess it depends on people's needs and the sacrifices they
make. I take my hat off to those who go the whole hog.

I haven't really used my Replicant phone much, as I prefer using JMP
with my laptop, so I can't thoroughly review it, but the only
limitation I've run into is that you need to use a USB adapter for WiFi
to work. I guess I could see this being a minor inconvenience if I went
back to carrying a phone, but it wouldn't be that bad. The adapter is
small. I'd carry it in my pocket and plug it into the phone when I
needed it. Other than that the phone seems fine. It's old, but who cares
if it works.

If I recall correctly, the phone cost about $20 (used but in good
condition) and installing Replicant took 15 minutes and should be easy
for anyone comfortable with copying commands into a terminal.

Thank you for the tips, appreciate it. In an ideal world I wouldn't have an
Android phone. I just wish there was a free software/hardware alternative
available. I've not tried replicant yet but I think it might be too limiting.
For now I use lineage os without any Google services installed and F-droid as
a play store replacement. The closest I'll get for now.

You might do a search for the same issue with Ubuntu 16.04, on which
Trisquel 8 is based. I see a few threads that suggest different
solutions, but without access to an Android phone I can't try any of
them.

It seems I can use the MTP protocol and mount phone storage to trisquel only
when the phone is in the TWRP recovery mode which is ok, at least it works.
Just curious why it can't connect when it's booted into the Android OS.

I have never used Android, but with Replicant I recall having to switch the
USB mode to MTP in Replicant's settings.

No, didn't bother with the minimal install, too much messing about with the
terminal for me. Installed all the correct packages. Nothing working.

Maybe you don't have MTP packages installed? *shrugs*

[Trisquel-users] MTP For Android

2018-09-09 Thread jackflitton
I'm just wondering if anybody knows how to get MTP to work for Android on
Trisquel. I'm saving up to purchase a Reolicant phone but for now I'm running
Lineage OS. When I tried PureOS, it picked up the phone via USB but Trisquel
does not and only recognises PTP. I'm just wondering why if they're both
fully free distributions. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
