Some quick searching on the internet brought up https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1816429 It may not be precisely the same problem but it can't hurt to try a newer kernel to see. It can always be removed. https://jxself.org/linux-libre/

I am using a DTLAPC14 laptop; audio does not work, I tried modifying alsamixer configuration and just got weird chirps and clicks from the speakers. The name of the chip on alsamixer is "bytcr-rt5651" not "ALC5651".

Kernel support for this has existed for several years already. Can you please give more information about what is driving your question?

You may need to do some research but usually audio chips are supported by free software distros at least in my experience. Usually, wifi, graphics, 3d video acceleration, etc... are the issues.
