I already installed Linux-libre 5.1 and reinstalled ALSA.

Some quick searching on the internet brought up
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1816429

It may not be precisely the same problem but it can't hurt to try a newer
kernel to see. It can always be removed.

I am using a DTLAPC14 laptop; audio does not work, I tried modifying
alsamixer configuration and just got weird chirps and clicks from the
speakers. The name of the chip on alsamixer is "bytcr-rt5651" not "ALC5651".

Kernel support for this has existed for several years already. Can you please
give more information about what is driving your question?

You may need to do some research but usually audio chips are supported by
free software distros at least in my experience. Usually, wifi, graphics, 3d
video acceleration, etc... are the issues.
