I'm glad to see that a brave new soul has taken on my old role of
being overly anxious to test kernels.  I hope that filesystem
corruptions and the like do not plague you like they did me in the
2.3.x series of kernels.  I would suggest partimage as a good way to
backup your system prior to experimenting.

I know I sound cynical, but there's a reason that kernel hackers have
a development box to run development kernels on.
