…But I disagree with her. I found most of the show lame when not
incoherent. Unlike Wicks I thought Kendrick Lamar was one of the few bright
spots.

I’m trying to remember a season when there was such a huge gap between the
quality of the sketches and the quality of Weekend Update. I thought Colin
Yost and Michael Che really sparkled. I’m not sure if Yost is still the
head writer of the show in general, but for whatever reason the
intelligence and craft he and Che bring to WU are nowhere to be seen
throughout the rest of the show.

[TV orNotTV] Reality Show Guy New Chief at Nexstar's CDub

No surprise that Mark Pedowitz is leaving The CW as CEO as Nexstar takes 
over from Paramount and Warner Brothers Discovery, and no surprise that his 
replacement is from the unscripted ranks--Dennis Miller (not that Dennis 
Miller) was chairman of Industrial Media ("American Idol," "30 Day Fiance," 
"Selena [Gomez] + Chef") until the company was bought by Sony earlier this 
year and his presence pretty much indicates that the future of CDub is not 
NewsNation on OTA (and definitely not Dare to Defy scripted dramas), but 
more "Masters of Illusion," "Whose Line?" and foreign scripted shows, if

Unlike Dave I am no more negative about the show now than after episode 1, but 
my continued viewing is still relying mostly on stored goodwill, rather than 
earned merit. If they can avoid going fully Monty on the present day conspiracy 
shenanigans I probably have enough good will stored to carry me through the 
full season.

The biggest problem remains the cast. Lee is fine, Hudson is serviceable (even

on the original version, there was a chemistry and a friendship between Sam and 
Al. In the reboot, no one seems to like each other, and they spend their time 
recounting exposition and detailing each other's character traits rather than 
interacting.
I'll give it a few more episodes -- worse shows have gotten better -- but, 
right now, this show should leap home.
