Edumacated speculation here, but since whatever college basketball wasn't
national, WBTV probably rolled tape* on Dave at 11:35; at the end of the show,
master control switched back to the live net feed instead of the tape playback.
Given the amount of automation present in master control rooms these days, it
was probably just a default switch to Net line in the playlist that didn't
get taken out with the late start, and the sort of easy little thing to
overlook that just didn't get caught.
*No, not really tape; no one uses tape anymore. But it rolls off the tongue
better than set the server to record
